10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

I think I remember seeing this or something damn close to it at Toys R' Us back in the day. I distinctly remember seeing the Valis 2 and Y's clips. Could have been VHS though, not sure (it was in a kiosk box/cabinet)

Thank you so much for going through all that effort, Jelloslug! It's so wonderful to see another piece of Turbo history saved, archived, and displayed for all to see. :D

I would really like to find out what the disc actually goes to.

Yes I would like an AVI also!  Dude!

This brought back so many memories.  They used to showcase this video a lot back in the day at the Turbo Zone retail island store in the mall.

Very nice.

I don't remember seeing this specific one. I must have seen an earlier one that emphasized Blazing Lazers, China Warrior, Vigilante, Legendary Axe and the other launch titles.

So, not that we can treat this as gospel (Dan! Where are you?), but we have some tentative release dates that may corroborate DragonMasterDan's release timeline:

CHEW MAN FU — July 1990
DEVIL'S CRUSH — August 1990
PSYCHOSIS — August 1990
TIMEBALL — July 1990
SUPER VOLLEYBALL — September 1990
VALIS II — July 1990

I have a higher res version but to be honest it looks just about the same.

This didn't make any sense at all!  I was cracking up at that and when the guys were jumping on the couch at the beginning.

I know Esteban would be posting about release dates too...  lol

The song that starts to play when they put the CD in is awesome.  The kid drumming almost ruined it though.

I am glad I didn't win this, as you have done a much better hosting job that I ever would have.  Thanks jelloslug.

Yes! The kid drumming and then doing some lame air guitar is painful, but thankfully brief.

The other kid, on the left, really looks constipated + shaky leg syndrome most of the time.

"Have a ball with Timeball..."

Anyway, this was a nice little video. Overall, given the time period, I can't really fault it. I especially liked the use of the "TG-16" font for nearly all the large text in the video.

QUESTION (might be incredibly boring for most folks): Does anyone know of other videos that feature that TG-16 font primarily (I'm assuming promos for launch would have it)? Anyone want to identify when the font was no longer used?

I think it would be fun to track the evolution of TG-16 marketing and after watching the video I realized that the TG-16 font was certainly an element of branding, but it wasn't used too much in print advertisements/videos.
