12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

So much win, thank you to my SS! You did amazing! My SS knows me all too well, I never said it but I've always wanted a Rasberry Pi! And happy to add these games to my collection! And a ton of bonuses too!

Little progress report - fixed marquee light, wired up an adapter for quick kick harness swaps, replaced power supply, cleaned the whole system up and fixed a bunch wiring issues. This started out as a non working system. Now I'm playing SF2 and a ton of CPS2 games in this!  The marquee graphics need to be replaced now.

Oh and I bought SF V collectors edition, the statue rocks but story mode sucks. Oh well old school street fighter is keeping me more entertained.

bump, if you got Mario Maker check this level out.

It needs some work but picked this up recently.

Yikes. Well I bought a Magical Chase. I'm happy with it. I didn't really like the case until I saw it. I'm so stupid....I thought the cases were PSP size. Lol they are tiny but pretty cool and fit in with jewel case size.

That looks like the same project box i used for my RGB box. Just painted black. The underside matches up almost exact (cant see it here).

An RF repair in the early 90s? While the casing is rough shape the fact he repaired it back when i barely knew what a solder iron was is impressive.

Steve does this look familiar?

I found this yesterday from a small game shop after asking if they had any Turbografx. I've never seen a TG16 in such bad shape. Do you think it will work?

They drilled out the bottom screws and also dremeled the area near the RF box?

The PCB doesn't look too bad, I cleaned it up and removed the RF box (it looked like they damaged the RF box when dremeling and then attempted to repair RF box). I'm guessing this happened a long time ago if they bothered doing that.

Update - FIXED

Was a bad trace (corroded) coming off pin 79 of a HU6270 (the chip closest to power switch). Just jumpered and all good now.

BadTrace-Fixed.webp

Quote from: Duo_ROK I recently posted how i obtained a Supergrafx unit. I bought it knowing it was a repair unit but I was hoping just a bad fuse. Doesn't seem to be the case. The fuse is fine, I just tested the voltage regulator and it's getting 9.5v in and outputting 4.99 on the out pin.

I replaced the 470uf cap that looked like it was going bad, cleaned up the board and everything visually looks ok no cracks. The shielding on the bottom did have blobs of solder that disconnected and I resoldered those. When I power on I get white screen then it goes all black. So appears to boot but nothing happens. Any tips on common issues ? I'm a sucker for repair systems. ;-)

Sorry for this taking so long. I opened up the controller and well I had to try and figure out what I did. Sometimes I just mod and just go for it, and when I don't take notes I have to figure out how I did the work. lol

I did another mod to this controller so there are ALOT of wires inside so a picture of the mod might not be helpful. Instead I did this diagram.

IMG

That is pin 2 on the IC used.

Now disclaimer, this is the best estimate on what I did based on what I can see. Make sure you test with ohmeter first.  I didn't show where I got select / start from but I pulled it from the other 74HC157. I may have to work on this controller in the future when I will try and add those pinouts. But basically if you are doing this work then you can use an ohmeter and figure out where they go. Essentially you have a 2nd SPDT that swithces between Run / Select. There isn't trace cut needed on those ones.
#15
You need to cut off a leg on the cover to fit.

General Gaming / Can you identify this cab
06/23/2015, 05:00 PM
i don't believe this is an original Neo Geo cab. It has a MV-1 which has the regular Jamma standard so I think someone converted to Neo Geo. any guesses on what it used to be?

OK update pic, jamma slot installed, plexi installed on front of case. Power supply is in there and secure, and added a power light for the front.

Goal is something that looks like a component found in your entertainment center and also can rest the arcade PCB on top (I will have a non conductive surface on the top).

IMG
#25
Ok I was so close to purchasing a Stryder cab but the seller backed out.

Too bad because I need a horizontal cab for all the arcade PCBs I own.

So decided to start a project in the meantime:

IMG
#26
OK the PCBs are original.

Also a progress picture of the cabinet

IMG

added:

New plexiglass
New marquee artwork
Painted some trim
Replaced laminate in top
Flush mount bolts for control panel
replaced old joystick and hardware with new parts
Fixed coin door lock
Installed 2 coin mech

Pending:

Swap PC power supply with Arcade power supply
2nd player joystick
Twin Cobra bezel
replace marquee light with LED lighting
Adjust colors on monitor

Here is my latest label designed after SSS. The case was a design by Buffalo.

I also have a case to hold this with the same theme design. If you saw my last Turbo Everdrive case it's the same idea but I wanted something with a PC Engine theme to it.

Well took a long break from this, it was pretty much done but I upgraded the video encoder to a Neobitz and did a few final touches. It's almost done.

Got one for sale here. Throwing in a booklet (I think I bought from Sparky) if you want to display the US cover. It just has the story on the inside (not an original US manual).

Game has a few superficial scratches but plays flawless. Shoot me a PM with offer.

seriously, this thing kicks ass. My Duo Pad controllers are pretty worn out, but really don't feel as comfortable to hold as the shuttle.

ok - this project was on hold for a while, but it is officially moving forward next week. Everything works, the holes have been drilled out for all the jacks and the cover should go in the shop this week for powdercoating.

Here are some before pictures, I am leaning towards painting it Blue, but also thinking Red. Note - the Plexi still has a protection sheet on it still.

Merry Christmas and Happy New year everyone! Thanks to my SS for the awesome gift, and also to the bonus secret Santa!

Also ROFLMAO - I meant to put in a little card with a barcode that when you scanned you got this image (to give away the SS identity). I didn't have a chance to do that but here is the picture anyway. =)

Thanks again!

TG16 template based on Phase's design (8 poly disc) to work with 3DS cases

3DS Template TG16 Bonk's Adv 300 dpi cropped.jpg
#44
Ok here it goes. I tried out that new Turbografx template with the 8 disc DVD CASES. I wanted to try something different for PCE. After some different ideas I tried 3DS cases. Turns out these fit in perfect with my collection no modding the case for hucards, holds instruction card or just the game no problem.

Note:
The PC Engine template was created based off original PCE designs with some modifications. The TG16 template was used from Phase (EktoPhase's) fantastic 8 Poly design - just applied to the 3DS template:

https://www.thecoverproject.net/forums/index.php?topic=5101.0

/xfel.jpg

And the size better matches jewel cases. See for yourself. Between 3DS, DS cases and the 8 disc DVD case, the 3DS case is the thinnest.

You guessed it!

I totally appreciate that, but need a higher res for printing. That's the best I could find on the internet so far. Hopefully we can get a hi-res version for future use.

Some snaps of a work in progress of my NES

Fami Disc expansion sound mod
Stereo mod - with dual pot adjustments
Reset port - used with custom NES advantage (has reset button)
Blue LED

The reset mod is nice to use with Everdrive. The turbobs spoiled me with the soft reset from the controller. Now I have a button on the NES advantage that can reset the system and I don't have to leave the couch. :)

Perhaps an easier route is patching the roms to have a cheat menu - like I have seen on other platforms like SNES. Then no worries about Krikzz supporting
