General Gaming / Johnny Turbo Returns?!
12/22/2017, 10:47 AM
This is so strange...

LINK

QuoteFlying Tiger Entertainment has announced that it is bringing some of Data East's most beloved arcade titles to the Switch.

Over 20 titles are coming to Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Steam, with the only confirmed game so far being the 1990 fantasy action release Gate of Doom (also known as Dark Seal). Games are expected to sell for $7.99 each on the eShop.

The really weird part of all of this is that Flying Tiger is using Turbo Technologies Inc. mascot Johnny Turbo to promote this range of games.

The apparent connection here is that Flying Tiger was founded by Johnny Brandstetter, the brand manager for the TurboGrafx-16 (PC Engine) in North America. The character of Johnny Turbo was based on Brandstetter, and we assume that since TTI's collapse in the '90s and Hudson Soft's purchase by Konami in more recent years, he's retained the rights to the character.

Though I'm not sure why...

Crazy that they're still putting these out.
QuoteVirtual Console on Wii U

- Blazing Lazers – Players control the extraordinary firepower of their Gunhed Star Fighter in this classic TurboGrafx-16 shooter. Collect power-ups to increase your ship's battle strength so it can cut through enemies and defeat the bosses in all nine action-filled areas. Of course, as part of the "Soldier" series, the game contains a good combination of fast-paced speed with catchy, drum-propelled background music.
#5
You know...in case anyone cares. It's out today.

QuoteVirtual Console on Wii U

- Bonk's Revenge – Bonk is back in this TurboGrafx-16 sequel! Bonk's Revenge is a side-scrolling action game in which you Jump and "Bonk" (headbutt) your enemies while you make your way to the goal at the end of each stage. Double – even triple! – your attack power by eating the meat that appears in a stage. There are eight different hidden bonus stages, and the Dinosaur Train that appears after you defeat a boss will change depending on how many Smileys you've collected.

QuoteYears and years ago, I used to work at NEC Home Electronics and just by chance, I happened work with someone who was involved with designing the PC Engine. It's not every day you meet someone who helped bring about such an iconic piece of video game hardware and it's been something of a lingering dream of mine for a long time to be able to talk to them about their involvement.

I first learned about the connection soon after joining the company. Back then, however, I had no published experience as a writer, let alone conducted an interview before, so I sat on that desire to interview them for a good 20 years or so. But after Joseph told me about his mission to preserve every game to such a definitive degree, I felt it was time to act and make that interview happen, seeing as how, again, preserving memories about games is just as important to us at the Society as preserving the games themselves.

The timing for doing so couldn't have been any better. This coworker of mine recently retired at long last and while attending their farewell party, I finally summoned the courage to ask them if they would be willing to discuss their history with the PC Engine. Luckily for me, they graciously accepted. The main thing I decided to focus on in the interview was how the planning and design process went for the PC Engine from NEC's side. Much has been written over the years about the technology that Hudson contributed to the system and while that's all well and good, I thought it was important to also discuss NEC's side of the story as a collaborator, too, while the people involved with it are still around to talk about it.

I sat down with my former coworker one chilly autumn day in Shibuya in 2015 to discuss times long past, the clouds above threatening to rain. The text of that interview follows below. One thing to note, however, is that this coworker wanted to remain anonymous, so for the duration of the interview, they'll be referred to simply as "K."

Enjoy!

http://www.newyorker.com/tech/elements/the-unexpectedly-high-stakes-world-of-neo-geo-collecting

QuoteSeven years ago, Shawn McCleskey, a dealer of rare video games, trading cards, and vintage machine guns in Memphis, Tennessee, made one of the biggest sales of his career. It unfolded like a Robert Ludlum novel. A man calling himself Wolf wired McCleskey fifty-five thousand dollars, then showed up a few days later at Memphis International Airport carrying a metallic briefcase. The two men met in the crowded arrivals hall and, after a brief stop at a local Chinese restaurant, proceeded to McCleskey's house, where Wolf inspected the merchandise—a pair of video games released in 1996 for the Neo Geo, a Japanese-made console. Satisfied with each game's condition and authenticity, Wolf opened his briefcase, which had been specially designed to house the foot-long cartridges, and locked them inside. "It was as if the deal was for a bag of diamonds," McCleskey told me recently.

I lifted this from this thread on NeoGAF. Not sure if it means anything, but it could mean they are going to once again/continue to release Turbo games on digital platforms (Switch?).

I didn't find anything in the search for this, but I thought this was a pretty funny article. I hadn't heard this rumor before, but I'm sure some experts on here probably know all about it. My question is: what if NEC had released something like what GamePro describes below; a 32-bit cart-based console that was backwards compatible with the PC Engine? Sounds like horseshit to me, but again, maybe you guys had heard this before.

QuoteThis morning, we've already heard about Japanese financial outlet Nikkei's grim report about the corporate culture at Konami. But one of the other things that article has thrown up, as translated by Thomas James, is that Konami's sold off the rights to one of its old properties to Nintendo.

Momotaro Dentetsu is an obscure name to most westerners, but it's something of a perenial favorite in Japan. It's an unlikely mix of Japanese legend (Momotaro, or Peach Boy, is a popular folk tale in its native country), transport sim and board game, and has regularly appeared on consoles and handhelds since the late 80s.

Since Konami acquired the Momotaro rights in 2011, following its buy-out of the sadly-departed Hudson Soft, it's shown little interest in continuing the series. In June, series creator Akira Sakuma left Konami and, in an angry tweet, stated that the series was "officially done."

Thanks to Nintendo, that statement isn't exactly true. The Japanese giant has reportedly purchased the rights to Momotaru Dentetsu, and is set to release a new entry in the series next year.

Now, this might not sound like particularly earth-shaking news, especially when you consider that Momotaru Dentetsu probably won't be released outside Japan. But it does set an interesting precedent. As Nintendo Life points out, Hudson Soft has plenty of other wonderful games in its catalog which are also languishing on the shelf.

To name but one example: wouldn't Bomberman be perfectly at home on Nintendo's systems?

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2015-04-30-what-is-happening-at-konami

When Konami has their inevitable fire sale, we can all pool our money together and buy up all the old Hudson/Turbo properties. Just think: Arkhan can finally create a China Warrior sequel! The Old Rover can create his Neutopia 3 without worrying about getting sued! Nulltard can put together some sort of fully licensed Bonk/Princess Za erotica! The Turbo/PC Engine's legacy will be in the hands of the fans!!!

Or something...

Anyway, shitty about Konami.

QuoteIt's been awhile since our last update on Shadow Of The Beast. Our long silence has been because we?ve been working hard to turn the concept we showed last time into a reality. And, whilst we haven't quite finished that journey yet, we wanted to take this chance to share with you some early shots from the game.

We talked a little in our previous blog entry about the impact that the original games had on us as kids. When our team started putting together the concepts for our take on Shadow of the Beast, one thing we kept coming back to was how important it was to us that we made sure that our game stirred up that same level of emotion, especially through the visually striking, alien landscapes of Karamoon.

Okay, so the odds of it really happening are about 10,000,000,000:1, but: how badass would that be?

https://cp.nintendo.co.jp/us/

Here's what I wrote...

QuoteCharacter you're voting for: Bonk
Title of game the character appears in: Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge, Bonk's Big Adventure, etc.
Why should this character become a fighter?: Bonk was one of the "Big Three" mascots of the 16-bit era and deserves to be remembered. Plus, how awesome would his head-butt be in Smash?
It'll never happen, but it's all in good fun.

PC/Console/Mobile Ports / Langrisser 3DS
02/05/2015, 11:39 AM
wayback://siliconera.com/2015/langrisser-3ds-developers-going-new-look-design/
QuoteIMG
This week, Masaya Games have announced the latest title in the Langrisser series, the first in 15 years, for the Nintendo 3DS. As mentioned in an earlier report, the rights to the Langrisser series are currently owned by a company named Extreme, and CEO Soshi Saito and the chief designer and director Shohei Sato discussed the game in a recent interview with Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Hokanko-Alt]

After acquiring the rights to the entire Masaya catalog, Extreme have been looking into making their games available in the form of PlayStation archives and Nintendo's Virtual Console. At the same time, they're also looking to work with developers that share the same enthusiasm.

Extreme have been leaning more towards making games for consoles. While they do understand the merits of making games for the more widespread smartphone format, they feel that smartphones can't match the expressive powers of a dedicated game console. These feelings are what led to the development of the new Langrisser for the 3DS.

Additionally, Extreme also hope to find a way to bring the excitement of Masaya's brands—which were pretty popular during the '90s—back. They say that their philosophy is to make games for videogame fans. According to Saito, Extreme also considered Cho Aniki and Kaizou Choujin Shubibinman [the prequel to Shockman] but ultimately, they felt that Langrisser would be the best choice for a revival.

Saito mentions that the upcoming Langrisser title will be a little different from previous games in the series, and one of the reasons for this is that Extreme felt it would be no good if they kept things the way they used to be. The company considered asking  Satoshi Urushihara, who did the artwork for the previous Langrisser games, to contribute to the new title, but the reason they ended up going with Hiroshi Kaieda instead is that they felt the need to do something new.

Additionally, Saito says that he is personally a fan of Kaieda's, which contributed to bringing him in. Finally, it is revealed that Extreme also initially thought about keeping the system exactly the same as the earlier Langrisser games, but that has changed as well.

It's a pretty similar premise to Parasol Stars/Bubble Bobble, but you attack by dropping down on enemies. Because of this, the only controls are touching the left of the screen to go left, and the right of the screen to go right. The mechanics take a bit of getting used to, but it's a fun game.

My wife was cleaning out a closet in our basement and found this PS2 mod chip that I had bought years ago. I had completely forgotten about it, and actually own a Japanese PS2 Slim, so I have no use for it whatsoever.

I'll ship it for free. It's still in its little plastic seal, and hasn't been touched. Unfortunately, I know nothing about it as a friend of mine was going to do the mod work for me but never got around to it.

I can't imagine that anyone would want this. But I thought I'd check with you guys, just in case. If more than one of you wants it, I'll draw names out of a hat or something.

Have at it!

I'm probably just getting my hopes up, but...

IMG

I guess we'll find out in just over an hour. It's probably just another fucking Metal Gear announcement. "METAL GEAR HD COLLECTION REDUX PART 30!"
#24
Seriously, I think this game gets overlooked when we talk about the best titles released for the TurboGrafx-16. So I'm gonna break down my case for why Bloody Wolf deserves to be held up there with the elite games for our beloved system...

IMG

First of all, that name: Bloody-motherfuckin'-Wolf! It just screams, "BAD ASS!" And look at our protagonists: Eagle and Snake. Sure, you can create your own "Code Name", but why would you? EAGLE or SNAKE, bitches! Sure, one might say, "This game would be better with two players." Pfft. Each one of these guys is worth like, I don't know, ten Rambos. Leave your pussy co-op shit on the NES. Real gamers fly solo.

IMG

So anyway, your mission brief is straight and to the point: rescue the God-damned president. Now. No talking about feelings or how achieving your mission is of the utmost importance to national security. Eagle/Snake doesn't need nuance. Eagle/Snake just wants to kick some enemy-of-unspecified-origin ass.

Level 1: Shooting motherfuckers. Look at these bitches...
IMG
"Oh no! I've been shot in the gut!" That's what you get for fucking with our president, assholes!

Don't wanna get shot?
IMG
Here, let me stab your ass!

Or how about I just hop on my sweet-ass motorcycle and run your punk-ass down?
IMG

Shit's so intense, that by the end of this Stage, you're taking down a god damned submarine! Take that, nameless enemies! I'm Snake/Eagle!

Stage 2: Death from above!

IMG

Snake/Eagle just jumps from a chopper and immediately starts lobbing grenades at these cocksucking pussies who are hiding behind logs and rocks. And because no man gets left behind, Snake/Eagle is more than happy to shimmy up a tree to rescue a POW and get a pair of fins for his trouble. Time for a swim!

And after dropping from a chopper, Snake/Eagle takes down an enemy chopper! BADASS!

Stage 3: Up the mountain, shooting more bitches!

Nothing can stop Snake/Eagle. Not even falling boulders or some big, oiled up fuck with a bazooka. I mean, just look at these dumb assholes jumping off the bridge.

IMG
Suicide is preferable to facing the wrath of Snake/Eagle!

Stage 4: Face-off.

I'm just gonna say this: you think you can beat Snake/Eagle by taking away his gun? You dumb bastard.

Stage 5: POW camp.

Rambo ain't got shit on Snake/Eagle. Stabbing, burning, shooting, and blowing up enemy/terrorist/whatever a-holes takes a back seat to rescuing our brave men in captivity. You're humming the Battle Hymn of the Republic right now, aren't you?

IMG

Stage 6: Nothing like a leisurely float downstream, shooting fools from a raft.
IMG

followed by...what's this?! A giant fucking tank?! Where's my rocket launcher?

Stage 7: Seriously, after all the shit Snake/Eagle's been put through, you seriously think he can be stopped by some jerkoff in a wooden boat?

And finally, Stage 8: The enemy base. Tanks, and some crazy bastard holding hostages.
IMG

I almost forgot to mention: MOTHERFUCKING LASERS!!!

IMG

There's so much more, the soundtrack, the awesome sound effects, but you get the idea. This game is the ultimate in bad-assery. Naysayers might chime in with, "But what about the slowdown?" The answer is simple: the game appears to slow down, but what it's really doing is going into slo-mo so you, the simple-minded gamer, can fully process all the awesomeness without having your mind blown.

And...DISCUSS!

Looks like someone has a copy of Brink of Extinction:
http://tinycartridge.com/post/85266972617/somebody-has-the-cancelled-bonk-game-youtube

QuoteYouTube user ?Bonk Brink? (via Dtoid) posted this offscreen video of Bonk: Brink of Extinction, the WiiWare/PS3/XBLA game that Hudson cancelled a few years back. Which means that somebody out there has it.

Which means that somebody out there can hook me up.

I heard this particular Bonk game wasn't perfect, but I was really looking forward to it! I love Bonk. I actually love Hudson in general, and I was on board with latter-day Hudson, before? the end?
God dammit...I wish Konami would just throw this on Xbox Live & PSN and be done with it. Based on this footage, it looks like a relatively faithful update to the series. I never understood all the negative comments about it.

Here's a direct link to the YouTube page.
Here's a bit more info:

http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2014/05/video_check_out_this_footage_of_lost_wiiware_title_bonk_brink_of_extinction

QuoteThose of you with good enough memories to recall Bonk: Brink of Extinction will be aware that the game never saw the light of day; developed by Pi Studios in the US, the download-only release was scheduled to hit PSN, XBLA and WiiWare, but publisher Hudson Soft pulled the plug in 2011 ? just after the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The plot of the game involved a cataclysmic natural disaster, which is presumably why Hudson Soft decided against releasing it.

Pi Studios was sadly forced to close its doors following the cancellation of the game, which was thought to be practically complete.
We've now had confirmation from Nintendo Life reader and hardware collector Thomas Andrews that Brink of Extinction was indeed ready for release. He's sent us footage of the game running on a PS3 development kit which used to be the property of Pi Studios, as well as this short explanation:
"I have a PS3 developer unit FROM the owners of Pi Studios. The only game that was on it was Bonk: Brink of Extinction. Analyzing the dates and the name of the package, the game was READY to launch. The last edit date was over a year before the game was to be released. There was planned to be 3 DLCs, none of which added to the story; appear to be multiplayer games."
UPDATE:

The soundtrack composer made a free download available...

QuoteBonk: Brink of Extinction is a cancelled platform-adventure game continuing the Bonk franchise. It was planned to be made available on WiiWare, PlayStation Network, and Xbox Live Arcade. It was to have online and local cooperation modes. Following the 2011 Earthquake and tsunami in Japan on March 11, 2011 Hudson Soft announced the cancellation of the game.

Bonk's world is threatened by a doomsday comet on a collision course with Earth. Bonk has travel to the center of the Earth to steer the planet away from the comet. He has new transformations, including Fire Bonk, Ice Bonk, Mini Bonk, Rhino Bonk, and more, all of which do what their names imply. The transformations use up "primordial ooze", which can be restored throughout each level in the game. There is a Scrabble-like mini-game called Scribble played in between levels.[3]

Honest question: out of the big 16-bit rivals (Genesis, SNES, TG16), is it fair to say that the Turbo has the most active and prolific homebrew scene? Granted, I don't pay much attention to what the other communities have going on. But I was thinking that over the past couple years we've seen a fair number of independent games that have resulted in actual manufactured releases, and there are a bunch more in the making.

Yay/Nay?

If so, I think it's pretty cool that the console that was the unquestioned loser in the console wars (sales-wise), is the one with the longest legs.

PS: Thanks to you guys for continuing development. As long as you keep making 'em, I'll keep buying 'em.

General Gaming / PS4: Who's Got It?
11/16/2013, 07:06 PM
Well, the PS4 has finally been released. Who's got it? What are your thoughts?

Mine came from Amazon yesterday and I'm really enjoying it so far. The games I got were Killzone, Knack, and Assassin's Creed 4. I also downloaded Resogun, Contrast, Warframe, Blacklight, DC Universe, and Flower. Sounds like a lot, but the only games I paid for were Killzone and Knack (Target had B2G1).

The system itself is sleek and sexy; way better than that fuckin' George-Foreman-Grill-PS3 shit. The user interface is really slick and fast. I love how quickly everything moves and how it's laid out.

So far, I've played Knack, Killzone, and Resogun. I bought Knack to play with my 6 year-old son and in that context it's a great game. If you've played Skylanders, think of it as Skylanders without the toys. Killzone looks absolutely gorgeous and plays well, but so far I'm not a fan of its "where-the-fuck-do-I-go?" level design. Granted, I've only played the first couple missions, but that freakin' dam level was shit as far as level design goes. I accidentally stumbled upon my objective points after wandering around for ages. Very frustrating.

Resogun is fucking great. It delivers on the hype in a big bad way. So much fun...

There you go. What say you?

EDIT: Shit! Wrong forum! I would ask a mod to move this, but...

Just saw this post on NeoGAF:

QuoteRecently I needed something for a personal project of mine - complete lists of games for older consoles sorted by the release date. Being a lazy bum, I tried searching for an already completed list. Alas, only ones I've been able to find were on Japanese pages, dealing with games released only in Japan.

After a few months of on and off work, I've been able to compile lists that include all games, no matter whether released in Japan, USA or Euroland for a bunch of older systems.

Given the amount of retro threads I see in this forum, I guess there have to be at least a few people here who would enjoy having such lists, so you can find links to them below.
They are standard XML datafiles, easily convertable to your format of choice using DatUtil.

Let me know if you find any errors, or can contribute any of the missing data - release dates especially for Europe are sketchy at best. Please note, before you start making a ruckus about some release dates being off, that all lists use the earliest one as base.

Also of note, release data for most handheld systems earlier than Game Boy Advance can be found here. Different format, has quite a bit more information, including developer/publisher info.
The TurboGrafx-16 overall list is here: LINK

EDIT: Upon further review (reading is fundamental), this list shows the first date the game was released, whether that was in Japan or the US.

My first question when reading this article was, "WTF is GREE?"

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/06/22/wow-hudsons-star-soldier-isnt-entirely-dead/

QuoteIf you had a TurboGrafx-16 and liked shoot ?em ups you probably remember the name Star Solider. Super Star Soldier and later Soldier Blade were some of the best shooters for Hudson's console. Fast forward to 2008 and Star Solider remerged with Star Soldier R, a WiiWare game with a two minute and five minute score attack modes.

Then Hudson got completely absorbed by Konami and most of Hudson's projects including the completed Bonk: Brink of Extinction were put on ice. But, there is a new Star Soldier game? thanks to GREE. Star Soldier for GREE is a port of the 1986 console game redesigned for mobile phones.

The game has a vertical layout and an option to turn auto fire on or off. Star Ocean for GREE also has the two and five minute score attack modes, Caravan mode, achievements, and additional ships to pilot.

You can get Star Soldier for GREE on iTunes as a free download.

Not sure how many of you on are on the Turbo List, but BT Garner just sent this out:

QuoteThere were a fair number of you interested in the Meteor Blaster DX
Re-release, and I have decided to go ahead and do this.  In fact all the
digital assets were either uploaded or sent to the CD Replication house
today for the CD pressing.
This is going to be a small run (300 units), and
there are a few differences between this and the original 2004 release.

2013 Updates:
New "MindRec" opening logo when the CD starts
Loop has been replaced with Loop v2 -- same frustrating as hell game, now
with powerups.
Couple of bug fixes in Implode Caravan Edition
Addition of a 5th ship to Meteor Blaster DX (seen in the Developers
Edition)
Several new or changed hidden features
  Minor GFX enhancements in MB.

The CD packaging is also going to be different.  There will be an official
UPC code on the game, and the white tray will be replaced with a clear tray
(and the inner tray artwork is an advertisement for Xymati).  Including the
traditional white tray would have increased the cost of the project by
almost $200.

I am hoping to have the CDs in house around May 1.

Have not completely decided on pricing yet, leaning toward $15 for all Turbo
List members during the first month; $20 after that (and for non members).

I am not accepting pre-orders yet, I want to make sure that the CDs made do
actually work (I've been through this before).... but as always, let me know
if you have any questions.

What a great year for Turbo homebrew!

I was inspired by this thread to create a way to recommend mobile games to the community.

Here's a list of my favorites:

Ascension - Based on the popular deck-building card game. Awesome adaptation
Jetpack Joyride - Scrolling game. Watch out for obstacles!
Plants vs. Zombies - Awesome on any platform.
Joe Danger - Based on the PSN/XBLA motorcycle/stunt franchise. Nothing short of fantastic.
Pinball Arcade - Amazing pinball simulator. A handful of free boards to try.
Pac-Man Battle Royale - Free vs Pac-Man game. Best on iPad
Chu Chu Rocket - Based on the Dreamcast classic. Great port.
Game Dev Story - Run-your-own-game-company sim. Super fun.
Hypership Out of Control - Originally an Xbox Indie game. Scrolling vert-shmup. Great concept and execution!
Run Roo Run - Scrolling "runner" game. Really well done.
Super World Adventures - Closest you'll ever get to Mario on iOS
World of Goo - Puzzle/Strategy/Architecture?
Great Little War Game - Think "Advance Wars". Really great.
Kami Retro - Fun platform/puzzle game with great design.
iBomber Defense - Strategy/Defense game.

Feel free to add your own!

Hey Everyone,

I've never been a huge PC gamer, but I have dabbled with Steam on-and-off over the past few years and have always loved it. It seems that with Big Picture, I might finally get what I've always wanted: awesome PC games with a console-like experience.

For the next console generation, I'm thinking I'm just going to stick to WiiU and Steam, and skip out on the PS4 and Xbox720, or whatever they're called. In a perfect world, here's what I'd have:

A relatively inexpensive PC box hooked up to my TV that I set up so it boots up Steam immediately upon startup. In addition to being relatively inexpensive, I'd also like it to be low profile, taking up no more space than the average gaming console. I'd like to have it fit neatly near my home theater setup.

Any suggestions or recommendations from someone with more PC experience than me?

Thanks!

Hey Everyone,

I've got two US TurboDuos and one of them has been acting up in the audio department (soundtrack cuts in and out, audio gets crackly, etc.). Though I managed to install a new laser in my other Duo a few years ago, I don't have enough confidence in my skills to do any sort of repairs on this thing. So...

I was wondering if anyone around here wanted to earn a few bucks by doing it for me. Additionally, I would like to have a region switch installed on it so I can play Japanese games.

If you're interested, let me know how much you'd charge for each job, and what I'd need to do. Feel free to contact me via PM.

Thanks!

No, not really...

But I do want to say that after the drama of the past few months, it's nice to not see Fighting Street exploding with internet rage.

Turns out the bannings did some good...even if we lost our liberty in the process.

I've got a loose copy (no manual, no case) of Dungeon Explorer for the PC Engine.

I'll draw the winner on 10/15. Open to anyone.

And...GO!

Seriously, there's a lot of bullshit going on here lately and it would be nice if some of the moderators were a bit more loose with the "Ban Hammer." There are at least a few people who only come here to stir up shit and act like assholes, in some sort of pathetic internet dick-wagging. Give them a temporary ban, or get 'em out for good.

Hell, if nothing else, make me a mod and let me clean house. I've been here for a good decade. Let's get nuts. I'll go Judge Dredd on these douchebags.

It has a lot of nice TurboGrafx-related tidbits including a handful of games that they almost localized, but didn't get to for various reasons.

Wasn't sure where to post this as it's not a real game, nor is it in development for any console (as far as I know). Rather, it's a concept video of what Bomberman would like like in first-person with a cool voxel (is that the correct term) art style.
I love seeing the other player's explosions happening in the distance. Adds a really cool feeling of impending doom.

Hey Guys,

I rarely sell anything, but a friend of mine just got me a good price (relatively) on the US version of Dynastic Hero. I would like to sell the Japanese version in order to recoup some of the funds, but I'm not sure what a decent price is. I checked the much-hated eBay and there aren't any US sellers at the moment. The Euro and Japanese sellers seem to be averaging around $50.

What do you guys think? Is $50 outrageous or reasonable? I honestly have no idea.

Thanks!

The folks at GamingCX.com finally got around to translating the Bonk's Adventure episode of Game Center CX. I'm sure some of you have seen this already, but I watched this episode for the first time last night and had a great time:

http://www.gamingcx.com/gccx/gamecenter-cx-episode-60-bonks-adventure

I love this show in general, but it was especially awesome to take on my favorite game of all time.

They've also done JJ and Jeff and Ninja Spirit, but I don't think they've been translated yet.

Enjoy!

Feedback / Threads Per Page
12/05/2011, 02:54 PM
It might be nice to up the threads-per-page from 25 to 50. I know on a lot of forums, when threads aren't on page one of that category, they tend to get lost or forgotten.

Just a thought...

Okay, so I'm sure this topic has probably been discussed before, most recently in this thread: https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=9308.0

However, I'd like to get recommendations for English-friendly PC Engine games that were ONLY released in Japan. HuCard or CD/SCD/ACD.

I'm always looking for good PC Engine games. What are the best ones that were NOT released in the US and are good for non-Japanese speakers/readers?

1up just posted an article about "failed" consoles, what went wrong with them, and how they could've been saved. The first one they covered was the TurboGrafx-16. As with most mainsteam gaming websites, it has a few questionable parts, but I think it's a pretty well-done article overall.

Thought I'd share it with you guys:

Wasn't sure where to put this, but I thought some of you might be interested in this game I just downloaded on my 3DS. You can also download it if you have a DSi.

It's basically Parasol Stars with Witches, instead of Bubby and Bobby. And it's got a bit of that Magical Chase art style. Considering those are both pretty good Turbo games, you guys might like it. Best part? It's only $2.

Here's a review with some screens:

Just found this:
It's John Brandstetter's Twitter account. Brandstetter was the real-life guy who inspired the Johnny Turbo character back in the day.

Just thought somebody might care.

First, some background...

My brother and I used to spend hours - days - playing Turbo games back in the day. The time we spent together rank amongst my favorite memories and is one of the main reasons I love this console so much 20+ years later.

We recently decided to buy a boat together and today, as we were sanding/painting it, we thought it would be cool to name it, and name it to something related to the great times we had together with the Turbografx-16 and Turbo Duo. Kinda nerdy, yeah, but still fun.

We came up with a couple ideas, but I thought I'd see if you guys had any cool ideas. Here are a few ideas we had:

Bloody Wolf
Ninja Spirit
Hunting Dog (from Gate of Thunder)
Vic Viper

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Preferably complete (box, instruction manual, game). I don't think the game came with a jewel case, but having at least the instruction manual would be nice. However, if all else fails, I'll accept a loose copy.

Please let me know if you have a copy you're willing to part with and the price.

Thanks!
