I adore shmups, even though I'm terrible at them. One of my favorite games is the original arcade Raiden.  The TurboGrafx port was the first game I bought for my Turbo - I actually bought it quite a while before I bought the console.  My first impression wasn't good though.  It starts off way harder than the arcade version, with about twice as many enemies attacking you in the first level. 

But I gave it another shot a few weeks ago on a whim, and I was pleased to find it's actually MORE manageable than most other versions once you get decently powered up.  The spread shot (red powerup) seems wider and stronger than in other versions after 3-4 powerups, and that makes the game much more playable. 

So now I'm hooked on TurboGrafx Raiden.

It is such a great port.

The "mushy" claims are silly. If you can't manage to go in a straight line with ANY of these pads it's you, not the pads.

All d-pads are "mushy" lol...   except for the Neo Geo pad.

First party Sega 3-button controllers... seriously, you like them? I know lots of folks don't mind them, but they have a lot to be desired.

I didn't like them at launch, I don't like them now (but, obviously, I've learned to live with them...doesn't mean I actually like them).

But, it's very subjective... so, we can still hug and be friends.

I used to get LE's, but, yeah, seriously, I try to avoid them now.  Between cost & lack of space.....just, yeah.

The last two weeks at work have been CRUNCH TIME, but, guess what? I can breathe a (temporary) sigh of relief tonight because I just finished some major tasks.

That is seriously my incentive right now.

I played a bit of it at the last Toy Fair in NJ and I realized it's a game that totally encourages you to change thruster speed for different sections of the game. I love that. It's going to be fun playing around in each stage.

I one time played this game and my ball got stuck in a spot where I glitched max points.  I've mentioned this a few times before, but I have never been able to recreate this glitch.  Time to see if game of the month results in anyone having this success.

I have had that happen for a "brief time" (like 20-30 seconds?), but the ball eventually nudged itself out fo the spot.

It's happens to me 2-3 times over the past 3 decades (not often).

I was referring to the stock 3-button Genesis pad.  I've always thought that thing felt cumbersome.  The one I use is a 6-button, because it feels far better than the original.

I don't like the d-pads on 3- or -6 button Genesis controllers.

They are sloppy and mushy and just don't have "precision" I need.

Then again, I am *not* a fan of the versus-fighting genre... so maybe the six-button pad worked really well with SFII its brethren?

At least the Genesis controllers were better than the SMS pads... I'll grant you that.

It really is a subjective topic, though, obviously. I've talked to so many folks who *like* the various first-party Genesis controllers... despite their sloppy, crappy mush.

Plus, I suck at pinball. Real pinball and virtual pinball...I just don't have what it takes to get a mega score.

But, you know, I'll play this *and* some other damn pinball games in turbo (Time Cruise II, specifically) to make things fresh (I have never compared these games head-to-head).

So, comrade, maybe there is some neat litttle thing you can do to keep Alien Crush fresh... like play the Konami *Aliens* arcade game, too.  Alternate back and forth.

We really should try to upload as many manuals as possible in a repository to make preservation easier. Is there a way to add manual scans to the pcfx world section of the website?

While testing my CD systems I've been playing Gate Of Thunder. I've always been very poor at this one but I feel like I turned a corner today by showing more patience.  I'm also trying to beat the last car on Chase H.Q. I get so close to blowing that black car up but I always get screwed at the end

Given how...lets face it...shitty...the C64 was I don't see any need for a totally perfect dialed in official 1st party sort of system like this. Since you straight up NEED a keyboard to play a huge number of C64 games and the sticks were usually some 2600 stuff you had laying around the best way to play C64 games, to me, is just to run an emulator on another computer you already have. Or your Dreamcast. f*cking anything with a keyboard and decent video out. You don't need to buy something every time you see it

Last time I checked, my infrared WebTV keyboard was supported by this device.

I feel like such a heathen compared to you guys.  I barely care about RGB output, let alone all the sound stuff

I'm not obsessed with the RGB, but I've always been into music/aural experience (hey, that sounds pornographic!)

Even my mono NES and my family's first mono VCR was hooked up to a nice receiver back in the 80's.

Courtesy me, of course, because nobody else cared. But I loved the way sound makes things a billion times more immersive.

I always thought it said "Rare Sux" because they left Nintendo and went to Microsoft..
