10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

No problem man, hey Duo if you are interested in it let me know.
#252
I don't currently have any pictures of it, but if you don't know what it looks like, I can take a picture of it.
#253
I've got a genuine NEC car A/C adapter?
#254
I've always been curious about this.  I am guessing cause it's like a mini PC, and ..  uhm..  it's the Engine to play the games?
#255
I own a Duo -R and so far have not had to repair it.

It there was an option "I used to own a US Duo and it needed repaired, but never was repaired", I would have selected that also.  LOL
#256
Spoke too soon
#257
If you want a good CD+G disk, go pick up the first Information Society CD (the one that's got pure energy on it), I watch/listen to it from time to time.
#258
No problem glad to help!  But you didnt have to pay 3 bucks to cover paypal fees!  LOL.  I will get the game out some time after the new year.  Fired her up in the Express just to make sure it still works (It does), damn I am gonna miss that game, but I am gonna replace it with the PCE version anyways..  (trying to convert over to PCE only)
#259
I got one, what are ya willing to pay for it?
#260
I've never even used a dog bone NES controller..
#261
ALL GAMES HAVE BEEN SOLD AS ONE LOT, THANKS FOR LOOKING!!

Ok, well I got a total of 17 loose Turbo Grafx 16 games that I don't play and or like.  So I am trying to sell them off.  Real cheap, you name the price + add 1.50 or so for shipping and it's yours.  All of them work, except I can't get Order of the Griffon to work in either my TG16 or my Express.  Just get a white screen.  Most of them appear a little dirty/scratched.  Maybe washing them up can help, I guess that's what happens when they are loose.  Anyways, here's the list, make an offer.

Order of the Griffon
Andre Panza Kick Boxing
Falcon
TurboGrafx CD System Card (not 3.0)
Battle Royale
TV Sports Basketball
Ballistix
Power Golf
Pac-Land
TV Sports Hockey
Hit the Ice
Silent Debuggers
Victory Run
Keith Courage
World Court Tennis
Kind of Casino
Double Dungeons

Wow, this thread just exploded since the last time I checked it out!  There are way more Duo -R owners than I expected!  It's almost as if there are just as many -R owners are there are PC Engine Duo owners.
#263
My favorites are most types of Techno, love rock/heavy metal, love 80's, absolutely love video game music.
#264
They are usually about $200 shipped, more or less.  Check out www.risingstuff.com I believe they have one available!  That's where I got mine.  I also periodically see them on Ebay for 190 ish plus shipping.
#265
Wow, you guys have some massive lists!  I'll keep mine simple, most of these are the series of a particular game:

Contra
Castlevania
Street Fighter II
Blaster Master
Zelda
Mega Man
Metroid
Mario
Simcity
Gran Turismo
Star Soldier
Lords and Gate of Thunder
Final Fantasy
Phantasy Star
Sonic
Enduro for the 2600 (with the Genesis arcade stick of course)

I could go on and on..
#266
That's cool, probably have most of the games on that list already!

Still would be fun to add to the collection.

Quote from: guest on 11/24/2008, 11:52 AMI had some sweet disneyland ones.  They were pretty vibrant.

So were my Juicy Juice ones.

man, we could make viewmaster goggles with porno slides and turn a sweet profit off creepy dudes.
Actually, when I was in 6th grade I remember someone showing me a pin.  On one end was the viewfinder (very small).  You had to twist the pin, and it would change the pictures.  It was porn!  Haha, pretty cool.  Of course you had to hold it up to the light for it to work better.

I like the Duo -R.  System doesnt look bulky, does everything you need and is hassle free, and not only that, it's beautiful!
#269
Damn bro, you are one talented man, I need to try that game, looks fun!
#270
No, what I meant is that, I beat my previous score by an ADDITIONAL 75,000 points.  I beat your score by a LONG shot.
#271
For the TurboGrafx-16, i dissassembled the system and used some electronics cleaner spray on the pins..  then followed up with some compressed air to dry it out.  On the games I used a dab of toothpaste on the pins (rub the toothpaste onto the pins with sufficient force, it's got some abrasives in it that clean them right up), then washed the whole hucard with soap and water then rinsed and buffed the hucard/pins dry with a towel.  It all works now without a hitch.  I was getting the white screen before, with ALL the games.
#272
My TurboGrafx-16 does the same thing, have to tuck the controller cord under the system or place something on the connector to get it to work.  Really need to fix that, it's quite annoying.
#273
Cool, now what is a good laser lense cleaner?  I have one that's about 10 years old with brushes on it.  You add a drop of the solution on the brushes, then hit play, not sure how effective it is though.  Any recommendations?
#274
Excited to see that it's still alive, this is my favorite PCE/TGCD game!
#275
Played it some more today, bettered my score by almost 75,000 points, and probably will get even better.  Hope you all are practicing!!
#276
I've already got one picture taken, but I won't tell anyone my score.  :-"
#277
Yeah it's a good game, I love your website sunteam_paul, you are a PCE God.
#278
Yes, seemed like quite the game, not sure if I can get on to play TONIGHT, but I might be able to a bit later in the night.

Duo, I will be sending you Gradius II after work sometime, you'll love it if you are into Gradius and/or shootem' ups!
#279
Wow, some of the colors they offer are very nice, and they can color match your controllers too..  AWESOME!  Looks like they even maintain the badging/words/emblems and such as well.  Someone should give them a call and see if they will do any system or just the ones they offer.
#280
Ahh well, to me a case, the game, and the book is complete.
#281
Yeah I just read the thread in it's entirety myself.  I also have a Duo -R.  The -R is white, no complaints there, could be a BIT whiter, but it's not bad.  The controller on the other hand is YELL-O.  I am interested in how this works out for you, you should do a before and after picture.

I also read the link about the SNES problem.  Seems as though sometimes bleach may work, sometimes it won't.  Seems that soaking them for a good day or so does the job.  I think I am going to disassemble my controller as well.

Another thing that I liked about it that you didnt see in many NES games were the large characters.

Yeah I remember this game, used to love it.  Beat it years back when it was new.  I really loved the cut scenes, that was something fairly new back then.

Owned - 1 day
Purchased from - Sensei at RISING STUFF

OK, the system has arrived, and everything works well so far!  I got more than I bargained for!  Had a few suprises thrown in as well.

The stuff was packaged very well!

Getting Closer!!
/duorboxpackaging2un7.jpg

OMGz!!!  It's so Beautiful!!
/duorfo8.jpg

Check this out!  This was totally unexpected!!  Sensei also tossed in SFII, Space Harrier, AND an AVE Pad!  Extras ROCK!!!  Thanks Sensei!

/duorincludedstuffjn3.jpg

After owning ONLY loose HUCARDS, it's nice to have something complete!

/duorincludedstuff2gj9.jpg

But that's not ALL FOLKS!  So I open up the Hucard slot on the Duo, and look what's inserted, suprise!  Son Son II!!
/sonson2ya5.jpg

So basically, I got the Duo R w/controller, AV, AC, an extra Avenue Pad, Street Fighter II, Son Son II, and Space Harrier all for $200.. ... . . SHIPPED.  I "think" that's a good deal right?
Already tested everything, it works well!  Good sound, picture, no strange noise or access problems or anything.
Now time to try bleaching the pad and console (console looks pretty good already though).

Holy Crap, 5 bucks?  I spent over 100 on my set, they are 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 drive though so you can hook them up to a ratchet, and have a lifetime warranty, but damn.
#289
Y's Book I&II is coming out for the DS, with revamped graphics and music.  There is a link around here somewhere about it, I'll probably get it!
#290
Dude, Warren!  That game rocks man, great job!  I didnt have a problem with the installer either.  How did you make that?
#291
I got my set from Matco Tools.
#292
When it doesnt have the middle pin it is called a torx screw.  When it has the middle pin it is called a security screw (that's what we call them in the shop anyways, oftentimes air flow sensors use these types of screws, another name for them are tamper proof screws).  I actually have a bit set that's like torx bits, but with a hole in the middle, made specifically for this.  Shouldnt be an issue taking it all apart.  I will try to post before and after pics of the system/controller cleanings when the console arrives....
#293
I DL'd it from VC a few days ago, I am liking it.  If you don't have it and you have a wii it's worth it!
#294
To me it's a toss up, I'd say either the Famicon or the Jaguar.  What do you guys/gals think?
#295
Sounds like it has security screws.  I have a security bit set at work I can bring home if needed, that should make things easier.  I might just bleach the top of the system see how that goes, that way I don't have to remove the PCB or anything.

So the bleach does not bleach out any colored graphics on the system/controller?  Interesting.
#296
Quote from: Tatsujin on 10/23/2008, 02:06 AMso this means, you also would prefer the original AV signal over a RGB mod? :)
I can't honestly tell a difference, except on an LCD, which the system was not designed for.
#297
Cool link.  So how hard is it to take apart the R if I want to bleach that too..  I for sure am bleaching the controller.
#298
I like the game to look as original as possible, on the technology that it was meant to be for.
#299
What's a good way to clean it without destroying the plastic on it?  Disassemble and put the casing in the dishwasher at low heat?

Yeah I can't wait for the avenue pad - now I just got to get some games for it.
#300
Yeah it does look a little yellow-ish....  I noticed that too..
