Interesting stuff.  I always loved the older style NEC logo font.
Seemed pretty unique, simple and distinctive in comparison to domestic logos.

Never seen any PCE games for sale in the wild.
But I did once spot a TG-16 console (around 2001 I think) at a local goodwill.
Funny thing is, the parts were scattered all over the store.  Thankfully I was able to locate the controller, RF unit and AC adapter before buying it.  Total price?  $15.00

It's been ages since I've even played the Wii.
Boxed it up some time ago, which is a shame since I did have YS 1 &2 and Monster Lair for it

Ok, so I just got my PCE briefcase setup going.
However, my copy of Kung Fu (China Warrior) doesn't seem to work anymore.  I know the HuCard system is good since the CD-ROM games work with the included system card.

This game worked fine in my prior PC Engine system 5 years ago.
Now I'm wondering just how durable these HuCard games are.

Probably Spriggan and Dungeon Explorer II

What a great price!
Somebody buy this please and give it a good home...I just got my setup a few days ago and even I'm tempted to buy a second.

Just wanted to post positive feedback for Mr. Keith Courage.

Bought one of his PCE Briefcase systems, and man, he does great work on these consoles!
The community certainly benefits from having him!
Definitely a recommended seller.  Couldn't be happier with my purchase!

My PCE Briefcase CD ROM system arrived today.
Super stoked!

Hello all,

While I'm new to this forum, I've had an PCE and/or TG16 setup on and off since the mid 1990's.
I have a PCE Briefcase system coming my way (courtesy of Mr. Keith Courage!) and look forward to properly getting back to some awesome PCE gaming again.

Quote from: Samuray on 10/12/2014, 08:14 PMWell, it's not like I delivered tons of newspapers to finally buy a Neo after months of hard work, or anything like that. My parents were just kind of "pro videogames" so I had pretty much every system, even exotic ones like 3DO or PC Engine/ Turbo Duo which had to be imported. They didn't play themselves but appreciated my fondness for that stuff.
So in the end I was just lucky, I guess. :)
I wish my parents were like that.
Mine were of the "you can only have 1 system at a time" persuasion.

Every time I wanted to upgrade to a new system, I had to sell my existing console + games.  Not easy back in those days considering the used game market was kind of limited to mainly a few small mail order outfits like BRE games and Funcoland.

Great games.
How much did the 2 Dungeon Explorer games set you back?
#417
Does this copy of Vasteel have the spine card?

Orta was indeed a great surprise release for the Xbox.
It was games like this (and Sega GT, Gunvalkyrie, Shenmue and JSRF) that made the Xbox a spiritual successor to the Dreamcast in my eyes.

I was sort of turned off by the choice of characters.
The hipster-type girl in particular.

How long lasting is the brightening treatment?
Does the case console start to revert back to its yellowed state after a few years?
Anything you can do to prevent or delay it from happening again?

Quote from: esteban on 10/12/2014, 04:20 AMI would add that Dungeon Explorer's chiptunes really enhance/complement the atmosphere of the game and the "action-RPG" spirit of a "quest" (whether you are safely exploring towns or battling the hordes, the music always feels right). It's not just catchy music, it is appropriate for the setting and the tasks at hand. IT IS EVEN MOTIVATING AT POINTS (when the hordes seem endless).

Of course, some of the underground caverns in Dungeon Explorer have the classic "underground cavern tune" accompanying it so I am in absolute heaven (I don't care how trite that formula is, I like it! I love the somber underground cavern songs in games from 8-bit/16-bit era).
Definitely have to agree with you there.
Dungeon Explorer just oozes atmosphere.  I feel the music certainly has a lot to do with that.
#422
Without a doubt, Impossimole.

Game just seemed so out of place on the TG16.
The shrilly Amiga-esque Euro music was also strangely bizarre.

Which games have I never finished?
I can't even begin to count...

I'm in, if the raffle is open to noobs

lol!
Well, it was one of the first titles I purchased for my Genesis back in 1990, so perhaps it's just nostalgia goggles kicking in.

But I was impressed by the soundtrack and the 'realistic' time and weight elements incorporated into the game.  Hard as nails though.

majors brings up a good point.
Many of the 80's and 90's games lacked save features in general and required the gamer to carve out sufficient time to complete.

Many of the sports games of the era (ie: baseball games, etc) lacked in-game saves and basically forced you to take the time to complete each season or pennant race one game at a time.

Quote from: BlueBMW on 10/08/2014, 02:02 AMWho could forget Missile Defense 3D on Master System!?  Quite possibly the best use of 3D and a light gun!
So true.
Game was a bit limited in terms of stages, but those 3D effects were by far the best.
That ice stage with the pillars sticking out and the deep chasm were so damn impressive back then.

I always loved Sunsoft's 'FREEDOM FORCE" on the original NES
#429
I really like Milon's Secret Castle.

It's tough and it's unfair at times, but one summer I devoted myself to finally finishing this game (and succeeded, albeit using a the slow motion function on the NES Advantage joystick on some boss battles).

I also have fond memories of Super Hydlide on the Sega Genesis

I have to say, there's a certain charm about PCE chiptunes.
With that in mind, I prefer the PCE version of the track.

Dragon Spirit?

Brand new / sealed copy of Youkai Douchuuki (Shadowland).
#433
Please add my name to this, if it's still open!

I had one a while back.
Iron Soldier 3 was surprisingly fun.
Same goes for Merlin Racing (although saving is accomplished by way of a password system --- welcome back to the NES days I guess)

The Next Tetris, as rare as it is, looked and played like it was truly unfinished.  No backgrounds, etc when compared to versions that released on other consoles of the day.

Quote from: esteban on 09/17/2014, 08:55 PMDoes anyone remember a ridiculous TV show from UPN network called SHASTA McNASTY,
I do!
Circa 1999, if I'm correct.

Can't say I've ever heard of Surge before.

I remember that book all too well.  I received it for Christmas back in the day.
Kind of a silly looking cover design-- just what the heck is that thing?  A panda or some type of sloth?  And what does it have to do with TG-16 games anyway?
#439
Also, the US version of R-TYPE (on Hucard) has the advantage of having the game on one card.
Whereas the PC Engine version is split into two separate cards.

I think Mashin Eiyūden Wataru sounds a whole lot better than Keith Courage in Alpha Zones.

I've been watching NHK's "Begin Japanology" series.
Youtube has (I think) almost all the episode.  Really interesting stuff...well worth checking out.

So when HuCards spontaneously die, are there any advance warning signs?

I once remember my brother having trouble with his World Court Tennis game back in the day.  When it booted up, the music was super fast and the system would display garbled graphics.  Is that what typically occurs?
#445
I frequently find myself hearing tunes from Dragon's Curse and Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu
