Hello everyone!

I'm new to these forums.  I used to be a major collector back in the day when the Genesis and TG-16 were at each other's throats at the start of the 16 bit war.  I even worked for Electronics Boutique (remember those?) back in high school.  Wow, its been that long.  Anyway, I parted out some of my collection back in college, but now I'd like to get some of my old collection back.

I'm still rocking the original TG16 + CD attachment with the Super System  2.0 card that came out.  After all these years, the CD portion of the system kind of works.  I took the drive apart and moved the little white gear that moves the motor inside and now it seems to work.  Scared with the possibility of loosing the ability to play all my old CD and SCD games, I'm looking for Duo or Duo-R.  I'm thinking of splurging on one of those Japanese systems that has been modded.  I don't remember the guy's name, but he includes a SCART cable with his systems.  Anyone ever hook one of these to a modern TV?

Anyway, I'm looking forward to joining the discussion here and getting to know everyone!

Welcome to the site John.  I am sure you will find everything you need here.  Plenty of peeps here sell/repair the Duo consoles, and can help your game collection grow.

Hey, welcome!  I have a modded Japanese Duo-R which has served me well so far.  ^__^  I have no experience with SCART, but I do have mine hooked up to a modern TV via the older RCA cables and have had no complaints.  If the guy doing the SCART conversion gets good reviews/feedback, then I'd say go for it!

Do you happen to know the guy's name? I've seen a couple of videos of Duo-R's on YouTube that were SCART modded and cleaned to look brand spanking new. Even though I live in the US and cannot use SCART, I was impressed by the videos I did see.

Doujindance refurbishes and mods Japanese systems... and sells them on Ebay.

They look quite nice...  as I don't have a working duo at the moment, I've considered picking up one of these, but nowadays, I mainly use Magic Engine.

welcome Flare!!, take your time looking man as you come at an expensive time for the Tg16 if you look to ebay.... drop by the shout box as well and get to know some of the regulars, always some good advice and some good laughs to be had. Still good to see people getting back to the TG fun :)

Welcome aboard the crazy train!  Like BigT said, you're probably thinking of doujindance; his stuff seems to be top notch, but scart is useless if you don't have a TV that can handle it (i.e. - virtually none in the US), meaning you'd need some sort of converter.  Best of luck to ya.

Ok, I ended up buying one of those modded Duo-R systems off ebay.  No clue how to hook up that SCART cable to a modern TV.  At least I can get by with the rgb cables for now.

How much did you pay?

199.99 + shipping from Japan.  Unit had a new lens, RGB mod, toggle switch to change from japansese to american HuCards.  Also included was a controller, SCART cable, rgb cables and ac adapter.

What I don't know is how to hook up the scart cable to an american TV.  Does anyone have any idea how to do this?

You, uh, don't.

SCART is not an American standard, although there's probably some way to do it involving 15 adapters and gender changers.

There is. Now that you've bought a console designed to hook up to European TVs, you get to spend an additional $50-$100 (or more) on converters that may or may not successfully convert the signal to component.

Next time: buy a console that outputs video via an American standard.

EDIT: I just re-read the old messages here and I see that the console also comes with "RGB" (I assume you mean component) cables, so you'll be able to use it after all. If that's the case, why do you need to utilize the SCART connection at all? The only way you'd ever get it to work would be to buy one of the aforementioned converters, in which case you'd be converting the signal to component, which seems extremely redundant if it's already outputting component via another cable.

SCART is a standard used in Europe and virtually nowhere else. If your TV doesn't already support it, the SCART aspect of the console is essentially useless to you.
