If I've missed any, let me know.  Some games on here are kind of stretching the bounds of shmupdom (Mr. Heli, Veigues) but I'll include them anyway.  I didn't include Salamander, as it has vertical stages.

Aeroblasters

I think I'm going to have to go with Air Zonk.  Aeroblasters is a close second in my book.  And for nostalgia's sake, R-Type gets an honorable mention for getting me hooked on the system in the first place.  But overall, Air Zonk wins it for me.

Aeroblasters and Air Zonk are definitely good, but Parodius Da! takes the cake for me.

I had to go with Aldynes.  R-Type and Parodius are pretty close, and Aeroblasters is great 2-player fun, but Aldynes just has this original, hardcore, gritty feel to it that I love.  It almost feels like a spiritual precursor to Gate Of Thunder and some of the same people worked on both games, iirc.  R-Type flickers a bit too much so that it affects the gameplay a little bit, and Parodius and Air Zonk are awesome but I've never been a big fan of cute-em-ups.  The no-gravity levels in Aeroblasters kind of drag it down, for me.

AeroBlasters did it for me. The only think I didn't like about that game was the flicker, something Chris C. could probably resolve with a SuperGrafx upgrade similar to what he's got in the works for R-Type.

R-Type for me, Air Zonk is a close 2nd.

Parodius Da!, followed by Air Zonk, Aldynes, and Veigues Tactical Gladiator.

I'd have to say Aero Blasters, I really like this one.

I voted Saint Dragon just because I don't expect it to get any votes, plus I think it's a cool game. 8)

Would Genji Tsushin Agedama count as a horizontal shooter? Same sort of league as Veigues.

PC Denjin/Air Zonk for me. One of my top games for the PC Engine. Love the gameplay, graphics, music, sound, characters, everything! Perfection!!

I voted for Air Zonk with Dead Moon a close second.

Nobody for Coryoon, eh? I guess Air Zonk was a slightly better game using that engine.

Hana Taka Daka needs to be added.  Great game, but beat out by others.
Air Zonk is superb, so it's got my vote.

Coryoon is one of those games I'd really like to get, but it looks so similar to Air Zonk I've held out so far.  One of these days I'm sure I'll pick it up and I'll probably love it. :mrgreen:

They are all pretty nice, to play it just depends on your skill level.

You have Magical Chase on that list but not Burning Angels???? Did you know that game has an built in Vertical mode, unlike other games you have to press the buttons in a specific order in order to use verticle mode. It feels like a real arcade when I see that screen strech.

It was very hard for me but I voted for Air Zonk.  It was a tough choice between  Air Zonk, Aero Blasters, R-Type, and Coryoon.  I went with what I play the most.  It might've  been Coryoon if I owned it.  :cry:  One of these days...

Air Zonk isn't even that good.  It gets boring.

Coryoon is the same game with dragons and fruit.

I love R-type but yeah I'm kinda surprised R-type didn't take this. Still need to get through Air Zonk though -_-

I think Air Zonk is one of the less boring shooters.  The partnerships mix it up at least; I get sick of the shooters that require you to memorize which power-ups to collect/never die (like Super Aeleste).  Nothing fun about taking on a boss with a pea shooter.

It's a single favorite game poll. I love Magical Chase, but there are so many great horizontal shooters for PC Engine that it isn't my favorite above all else.

No other HuCard shooter has affected me the way Aeroblasters has from the first time I played it. The Genesis and arcade versions are cool games, but there is something special about the Turbo version that makes it so much more than the sum of its parts.


I wonder what percentage of the games in the poll the average voter has actually played? I'm guessing that Air Zonk is also the most played game in the list.

Well you don't have to own the game to vote for it.  I've only ever played most of these games on an emulator, but Aldynes still takes the cake, for me.

I've played every game on this list, and Im not a big fan of horizontal shooters really.

it takes alot to really like one.  

Why wasn't paranoia on there? It's my favorite of favorites.

Air zonk is my favorite.

I personally would have gone for 1943 Kai(Original Stages!! :D). Though, out of all the choices, I picked Mr. Heli. I got it with my original system, and have loved it to this day. Parodius is great, but honestly, the SNES version is better, is is way too solw for me. Air Zonk is amazing, but something feels missing ](*,). Aeroblasters is great, but too hard. Obey PC Engine! :twisted:

I don't get this fawning over Air Zonk.

I love the game, but others are more worthy of being a proper shooter.

I'd say that for a system arguably overloaded with shooters, Air Zonk is very accessable and innovative, plus it uses some neat hardware tricks, and is very polished.
