Ok, my wife and were talking about what we thought was the coolest looking game console ever. So, in this thread, give me your opinion of the top 5 coolest looking consoles ever. My top 5 are:
1. Duo-r: what can i say, it just speaks to me.
2. Fm Towns Marty: I like simple designs, the marty is just sexy.
3. NES: Once again, i like the simple design, its iconic.
4. Neo Geo: Sharp lines, black on gold, and very sturdy.
5. Turbografx 16: coal black, sharp lines, sturdy and simple, love it.
For the record my wifes favorite is the gamecube.
for pure looks, NEC wins.

I'm a sucker for the PCE as well - both Tats and Henry capture the essence of what I'd post, so I won't bother repeating them.
I agree that SEGA had some sexy looking systems as well (I love the look of the original Genesis, especially with the CD attachment).
As much as I love playing games on Nintendo's systems, I've never felt any of them have been particularly sexy. The SNES was so unattractive to me that I went and airbrushed mine really ugly colors so I'd never sell it. It's not pretty, but it's still an awesome system.

Speaking of slabs, whats with the AES love? The thing us just...a great big hollow sounding black brick. I dig the controller, but the system...boring. Not awful, just boring.
And yeah, I should have put PC-FX in the runner up category. Its totally beautiful.

-Sega Genesis model 1 with Sega CD model 1 attached (model 1 Mega CD is even cooler because of more blinky lights)

-Sega Master System (US version only with matching carts instead of the odd-sized ugly Mark 3 carts).
-Sega Saturn (model 1 with a RAM cart attached, looks uglier when RAM cart is removed).

I no real order:
* Hitachi HiSaturn Navi - I may love my grey Model 1 but this is even cooler.
* Mega Drive Model 1 + Mega CD 1 - Black, stylish WITH fancy lights. I want one. All I have is a PAL Model 2.
* PC Engine DUO/R/RX - It was the white Duo-R that first caught my eye and made me interested in the PCE. The normal DUO is cool as well.
* PC-FX - Saw this one around the same time as I saw the DUO. Been liking it ever since...I think I want one....
* Sharp X68000 - Does this count? I want it to count. To (mis)quote Jeremy Clarkson: "...this, in black, is a symphony of evil."
* The Playstation-prototype. - The one that says "Super Disc System Cartridge". I think that says it all actually. So good looking.
Honorable mentions goes out to the SFC, PCE LT, all the Neo Geos, PS One, Dreamcast and all the other I've forgotten.

2 )Any Sony MSX2/2+, The Panasonic Turbo R, and the Sanyo Wavy PHC70-FD MSX computer (Along with the Sanyo Wavy 35). These are the best MSX2 and beyond machines. The Toshiba HX (pasopia) machines are amazing too. It's hard to pick just one MSX.
3) Famicom w/ FDS combination
4) Sega Master System (It's one of the coolest shapes for a system)
5) Sega Dreamcast
It's nowhere near my favorite system, but I really like how the white Wii looks in it's standup position. My US Duo is a close second. I really don't care for the look of the Duo-R or RX at all when compared to the original Duo.

They're expensive and sought after because of their awesome aesthetic. Not super hard to find, but they cost a fair bit of money.

I'm gonna go generation by generation. I'm sticking to Domestic stuff, for simplicity:
1) the 2600. Most of its variants are nice looking, especially the Vader and the Junior. the Odyssey2 was pretty nice too, but the keyboard could be cooler.
2) most of the consoles of this generation have those awkward number pads, disqualifying most of them. the Vectrex is the best of them.
3) In spite of its software, the 7800 is the nicest looking of the post-crash 8-bit consoles. The SMS is slightly awkward, and the NES was deliberately made to look like an appliance.
4) the first variation of the Genesis was really cool. the Turbografx-16, by comparison, was awkward. the SNES is nice, but the model 1 Genny is cooler.
4.5) The TurboCD just made the already awkward Turbo, more awkward. The Duo was much cooler than the Turbo, as well as the Genesis. the Genny model 1 CD has its charms [bigger=better!] but isn't as cool as the Duo. The 2nd variation of the Genesis wasn't as cool as the first, and the CD add on didn't help much.
4.75) the Genesis 3 is pretty cool, just for it's PC-E like size. the 2nd model SNES makes it a bit cooler.
5) the Saturn is much sexay. Most other consoles of this generation are either awkward (Jaguar, n64) or plain(playstation, 3d0). the 32X with a model 2 Genesis is pretty nice, but either of the CD systems make it awkward.
6)the Dreamcast was nice, but could have been a bit more exciting. the Gamecube is cool looking, particularly the (Japan only) Orange cube. Both the original XBOX and the Playstation2 are awkward looking to me.
7)I hate to admit it, but the original ps3 is pretty awesome looking. I think that Sony was trying to make the original look like a Duo. the newer model isn't as cool. The Wii is also pretty cool. the original 360 is pretty plain looking, but the new model is cooler; but it's only a little nicer than the new ps3.

The Jaguar did cross my mind but, I went with 7800 because it's just so, so... ...I don't know. I just like it.
