I was going through a box full of Sega Genesis carts the other day for Arkhan and found a few games I didn't remember picking up that are also in the TG16 game library and even a few that are in the PC-Engine library.
Valis III
Air Buster (Aero Blaster)
Cadash
Truxton (Tatsujin?)
Strider
Altered Beast (Jouki)
Fatal Fury 2
Anyone Else?
I have played a few imposter TG games. Bonk on SNES was okay, and so was Dragon's Fury on the Genny.
Altered Beast and Strider are way better on Genesis. The rest of that stuff though...PCE all the way.

I agree with you to a point but, have you ever noticed that if you took the sprites from the PC-Engine version of Altered Beast and put them with the backgrounds of the Genesis version, it would be more accurate to the arcade version?
No, but I did notice that any version of Altered Beast sucks.
Yeah, a lot of the SEGA ports. I've got Tatsujin and Strider for the Megadrive. The HuCard version of Tatsujin is always so expensive when I see it...
I do this a lot, just to compare and to verify myself that the PCE is superior :D
Not so the case for later 32-Bit ports, like the sega ages etc. which sure beat the hell out of any of the 16-Bit ports of those kind of games.
Truth: Sega Ages series on PS2 is the bomb.

Is it? Dunno. Own only the Saturn ones.
The PS2 series is up and down, but generally really really good. The Wonderboy one is particularly great, as is the Virtua On one.

You don't have PS2 Galaxy Force II? Le SHOCK!
I'm kinda torn between picking up the PCE or SFC version of Shin-MegamiTensei. I'm currently playing through the I&II remake on the SFC, which is pretty good. I would definitely get the PCE SMT1, except that SMT2 is only on SFC... I guess I should just get them all on the same system, unless the PCE one is superior in some way.
I have Aero Blasters and Air Buster on Genesis, I have Daimakaimura and Ghouls N Ghosts on Genesis, I have Exile on TGCD and Genesis. I have Klax on NES and TG16. So yeah there's quite a few instances of this.
I there are a lot that I have either one or the other especially when it comes to the Megadrive versions. Forgotten Worlds come to mind. Is the PCE version worth getting as well? Don't really play it much on the Megadrive, it's just around for some 2-player action.
I've played a few of the multi-platform titles, but I've never owned any of 'em (I don't have any other systems). The closest I can get is Dracula X and the Ys games on the PSP, but that's a different kettle of fish.

The PCE version looks waaaaay better than the Genny version, but you'll give up the second player.

I like playing with myself.

+1
I have R*Type for SMS, but I picked it up about 22 years before I acquired the Turbo version. They're both awesome. I have thought about picking up Dragon's Curse for Turbo since it was my #2 favorite SMS game but I have yet to execute.
I try to get every shared game I can for misc consoles.

The PCE backgrounds are closer to the arcade overall, not even counting the un-arcade like parallax in the Genesis version.
I have Cadash for both systems. The Turbob version is clearly superior; you get 4 characters to choose from, not 2, and the graphics are better. The sound might be slightly better on Genesis, depending on how you like Genesis sound in general.

Cadash on the Turbob is better than the Genny.
The PC Engine version of Strider is really clunky compared to the arcade but I've never played the Genny version.
The only game I can think about is Street Figther, and bomberman.
The Turbo beats the living tar out the PCE game.
Valis III PCE all the way.
Super Bomberman seems more fun then PCE bomberman.
It has mister meanie, unibomber, Bomber Knight, Pretty bomber, Elect-bomber, Black bomb is your freind, pre-devil Bomber. However that was a long time ago, and I never really finished a PCE bomberman yet.
River City Ransom is perfect on the PCE, like Castlevania, but I miss the jeans.
Strider.....hmm. I think it is better then the Genesis, but the orginal arcade game is funner for some reason.
QuoteI'm kinda torn between picking up the PCE or SFC version of Shin-MegamiTensei.
I have both games. The SFC takes advantage of mode-7 alot, like when you die, for instance. The SFC death scene is more dramatic.
The PCE is basically the voice version, as with the MEGA CD game.
It seems that Atlus gambled on all three consoles, to see which one would gain the most sales. The SFC topped along with Ys4, because the children of course
I prefer the PCE game, because I wuv my PCE. Seriously the voice is what I get it for. I do not know how many voice scenes their are. The PCE has load times, between battle sequences to load monsters and etc battle stuff. Also the various graphics that are not featured
in the SNES game.
The SNES games win only because of the SONY sound. I can't get over that fact. The PCE PSG is reasonable, but the SONY sound chip wins, .
Also the save file takes out the entire ramand you should use the external save instead of the Bram, however other games like Wizardry, also does this. You cannot move save file to the external device.
So the minus points are the
1. loading during battle
2. PSG sound vs SONY sound.
3. The oversized save file, that is one way ticket.
The bonus point is
1. Vocals
2. Extra graphics
To answer the original question: All the time. I have the same/similar titles for all the consoles/handhelds. One of the things I love is to play the different versions and appreciate the nuances/differences.
:)
I don't - or I try not to. Not unless it affords me a distinct advantage
I have PC Genjin and Sega Ages Golden Axe on PS2 Jap. Excellent titles.
Raiden
I think I way wayy too many ports of this game along side the PCB

Seriously, though, thanks for the scoop on Last Battalion! I had no idea that it was related to Override. Is this something that you shared here on the board before (I missed it), or is this new info?
I was surprised to see that the developer of Last Battalion--Sting (http://www.sting.co.jp/play/battalion/index.htm)--is still around! Holy Canoli!
And what a nice page they have up for LB, too.

I've done some side by side comparisons with Street Fighter games across Genny, TG, and SNES. It's a great example of how powerful the Huey could have been. :)

Anyway, am I the only one who was excited to read about Last Battalion (see my prior post)? SuperDeadite, or someone, please tell me if this is old news or new news for this board. I'm just curious if anyone has done an in-depth comparison of the two. :pcgs:
UPDATE: I should have known that nfgman would have figured this out Last Batallion~Override (http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=1206.0).
I still want someone to make an in-depth comparison, though.
