Title: simple 80s games
Post by: turbog on 05/07/2012, 01:32 PM
Sometimes I get in the mood to play older "atari era" type stuff. I'm talking about those 80s arcade games that were less complex but addictive to play. Where the goal was usually to score the highest.

So, which of these were brought to the turbo? I can think of the following right off the top of my head:

Space Invaders
Galaga
Umm what else?

+ all the stuff Arkhan is doing. :)

Klax, Drop Rock (shit game), Hatris, Chew-Man-Fu, and teh X.E.V.I.O.U.S. all have the simple arcade feel.

I like them vectors. Battlezone, lunar lander, tempest. Sinistar is pretty kickass too.

Tower of Druaga and Timeball are pretty old designs. Boxyboy (1MB!) and Drop Off give me that Atari vibe.

EDIT: Don't forget Meteor Blaster!

Wonderboy in Monsterland and World Court Tennis feel like NES games to me.

Well, Monsterland actually is an 80's arcade game and a perfect port aside from the rebranding and sound.

I guess that other Namcot games would count too, like Wonder Momo, Final Lap Twin, Pac Land, Valkyrie Legend, World Circuit and Youkai Douchuki.

Buster Bros and Splash Lake have "simple" timeless gameplay.

I haven't really tried Skweek, but it looks retro enough.

How about Tricky Kick?

It's the 90s, and there is time for Klax.

Might I suggest Doraemon/Cratermaze or Batman? They have pretty simple gameplay that is addictive and somehow becomes deeper the more you play.
