Post by: DragonmasterDan on 05/11/2012, 10:08 AM
I saw Monster World IV hit Virtual Console yesterday and finally picked it up after all these years. It's a very solid games, and it's in English. Has anyone else played it?

0 because it was a Virtual Console game on the Wii!

I have a repro cart with a fan translation.  The game is one of my favorite of the 16 bit era, I recommend it to everyone! The controls are perfect, the graphics are bright and cute, the animations is excellent, and there is a lot of love put into the game.

And let's be serious, once you see Asha/Arsha wiggle her butt in excitement when opening a treasure chest, how can you not fall in love?

I still have 100 or 200 points sitting around after purchasing Dracula X. I suppose I should pick up something to keep those from going to waste, and Monster World IV would be a good pick. What games on VC do you guys recommend most for bang-for-buck? Also, how good is Genesis emulation on the VC?

Well, your points are also good on WiiWare games, it turns into if you want to play something original for Wii, like Castlevania: ReBirth or if you want to play an old game you no longer have or have always wanted to play.

What? Was it only available for download? I was expecting it to be a retail release. Thanks for the info!

Retail release came out around November or October. It's a physical copy!

I'm also waiting to play Cave Story 3D, however, I don't have a 3DS.  I have the game, but I'm waiting atleast for the inevitable dual analog stick 3DS, instead of that stupid addon.

I played this (never in English, though  (https://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgsad.png)) many, many years ago.

Great game. It's a damn shame it was never released stateside back in the day.

The music in WBIV is really really good! Wait until you hear the lava level's tunes.

I was going to get this on Wii, but since there's a PSN version, I'll just wait for that.

I came here just to post about this, but it seems someone else already beat me to the punch.
Here is what I said about this on Romhacking.net....(some may find it interesting)

This is something you rarely see and I don't even understand why Sega decided to fully translate a 17 year old Genesis action RPG in to English in this day and age?

I bought it last night and extract the ROM from a NAND dump of my Wii and it turns out the actual ROM has been changed into English!
Now this may seem like a no brainer, but it's actually uncommon for VC games to do this. Usually when VC games make changes to the original ROM they make the changes into a sort of patch that the VC emulator uses to actively filter over as the untouched ROM is running. Such was the case with, Sin and Punishment, Revenge of Shinobi, ect. The fact that this new translation can run independently from the Wii's VC emulator means it can potentially run on the actual hardware as well. Which is a nice thought, though I'll never be able to take advantage of that option since I don't own a flash cart of any kind.

I haven't played enough of it to comment on the translation compared to DeJap's and Demiforce's unofficial one hosted here.

Everyone should go out and buy this right now! Odd decisions like this need to be supported and it's a fantastic game none the less.
