A

I prefer B
B looks better. the mountains create that safe feeling that I would assume people would build houses along the same 'side' for various reasons.
a
B
I've no real preference, so I voted corndogs.
The sky in A draws your eye into the picture. The sky in B draws your eye out of it.

^^^ this. It's a very important detail, and since this is for a scene in which the viewer is coming into the village, then A is preferable for this scene.
And now I want corndogs.
A looks better since the taller hut against the sky balances out the mountain, composition wise, that hut functions like a second mountain rising up. Also, the huts and tree line and mountain all flow together. Because the background elements are opaque, the tree line and mountain also work together to give the impression of perspective, as though they areflowing off into the distance. The tree line in the B pic balances out the mountain in a more 2D way, but the A pic feels more natural.
A. for what sunteam paulito said

I thought I could balance it that way and give it some tension, but after stepping back from it for a while, I like A as well.
Thanks all!
I vote A. It has a more balanced feel to it.
I like the sheltered look the mountain gives the village in B so I picked that one :)
A because I just do.
I like that it suggests an order of levels. You start out in the village, then head through the dark forest, to the foreboding black mountains.
I voted A because it reminded me more of Activision's sky (http://www.atariage.com/software_page.html?SoftwareID=4033) than B.
I picked A, and no fucking corn dog appeared..... I mean damn.. Bernie sad now..
B, because arkhan and TOR voted A

Paul, I promise I will make my own grass blades soon ;)
Would really appreciate some feedback on the overall colors. Not sure if I should continue this way or try a monochrome, or darker color scheme on the house.

I'm using Pauls art for the door, that will be modified a bit too to make it fit better.
The roof looks like catvomit.
Change that, and you're set.

Yeah not done yet on the roof either. It does look pretty nasty. Maybe the shading will help. Gotta remember to step back more often.
Thanks Ark!
Yeah everything looks really bitchin except for that color, lol.
It needs a bit of yellowish-greens to offset the brownish barf green
Touch ups and what not
Still working out the light from the inside bit

Thanks man! Yes, Monorif indeed. lol
Been picking at Paul's work and studying me games. Or at least trying to :D

This one is taking a little bit longer
Not entirely sure how to approach the grass area right now.

I voted A for this same reason.

any tips on rendering the grass with this light setup would be awesome!
Freaking Grass!! ](*,)
Keep it fairly simple, don't try to draw lots of detail. Cover up any plain areas with a few rocks, flowers or far implements perhaps - that would help fill it out by having extra shadows as well. Have a look through some PCE scenes, I'm sure there must be plenty of grass you can use as reference.
Thanks Paul!
I thought about adding some people to the scenes as well.
Back to studying those visual scenes :D
Haven't had a chance to work on this till now, but here's more progress

This looks like total crap you suck go die.
Just kidding.
I like the door ways in particular, and still really think the color choices are excellent for the sky transition.
reminds me of some fuckin Windows 3.1 era wallpapers or something, in a good way. :D

SHUT UP HIPPIE! ;)
I gotta give total Props to Paul on the doors, I am using his resources from the game and just altering them a little bit to fit my needs and keep things consistent.

I am a big fan of those like stone-doodley doorways. My house on Ultima Online has them!

Actually, the colors in the sky make me think a lil' bit of Loom, of which I consider that a good thing!

It looks like there is a lava flow in the background... not sure that it was intentional but it looks cool!

HAH! it does. At first it was unintentional, but then I was thinking about extending that area as part of the sunset. Just have to darken the colors a tad and work on the shading and.... DAMN IT MAN, STOP PRESSURING ME! it's a WORK IN PROGRESS!!!!
;)
If you could add some steam rising up from the lava, the image would be perfect.
:pcgs:
Haha. And that is why I never show people half finished work!
