I've had my TG-16 for almost 4 year. Decided to pull it out, but the something about the RF was broken so I ported out the pins on the expansion port. Now that it works fine, I'm still stuck with the same 5 games (Sinistron, Keith Courage, Victory Run, Bonk's Adventure, Legendary Axe). When I started to look online, the prices for games had jacked up quite a bit. So my questions is: If I had to grab 2-3 games which one would you recommend? Also seeing how much cheaper PC-Engine HuCards are any of them in full english text?
Thanks.

There are a few that have mostly english in them. Populous is one of them and there are a few cd games as well like Wizardry 3 and 4 that is 80% english and Lemmings that is almost completely in english. Oh yeah, the PC engine version of Cotton has a language selector that you can select english. I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones that I can name off the top of my head.
There are TONS of PCE games that can be played without any knowledge of Japanese. Pretty much any shoot-em-up or platformer will fit the bill. Of course if you're playing on an unmodified TG-16 you'll need some sort of converter or a region mod, but they aren't hard to come by here on the forums.
I suggest you check out this current thread (https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=12498.0) about people's favorite hucard games. A lot of them are fairly common and can be found for cheap (even on eBay!) If you can find a pce version, chances are good it'll be even cheaper, and in most cases you won't even notice that it's the Japanese version (well, the hucard will have nicer artwork on the Japanese version - bonus!).
Roflmao is right - you'll need a region mod to play Japanese games.
All of the games BigusSchmuck mentioned are CD games, so you won't be able to play those (except Populous has a PCE hucard version).
Check out this thread for lists of U.S. hucards you can get on the cheap:

Dungeon Explorer, Final Lap Twin, JJ and Jeff, Legendary Axe 2, and Double Dungeons are all good U.S. games available in the $10 range.
Finally, the term "jap" is derogatory and the admin/owner here has reprimanded members who used it in the past. Try "JP", "Japanese" or "PCE" when talking about import games.

Apologies.
I will be making an adaptor like Jugbug (https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=5227.msg231797#msg231797) made, so I'm good on that front.
Thanks for that link. I will most likely check youtube videos to see if any of these games have a lot of text and choose if the PCE versions is a better option.

It's funny, I first heard that several years ago on Gamefaqs, and I've followed it ever since. How come it's derogatory? I know the old Japanese naval flag is pretty taboo.

Because the GIs used it and meant it as derogatory.

Indeed. It was also used by mainstream Americans in the 40's onwards...it was part of popular culture and always derogatory.
Here's a banal song, with racist lyrics (https://youtu.be/51kWDb2FDTE) to illustrate. It's from 1941, but older folks were still using the term (and teaching it to their kids) when I was a kid in the 80's. You see, during the 80's, lots of xenophobic (to put it nicely) Americans were fearful of Japanese success in electronics/computer/car industries....and racist terms abounded.
Blimey, we didn't get that over here. God I remember the awful things said by a minority during the Tsunami. Personally I've always had a lot of love.
But it is kinda weird to me that the first half of a countries name can be turned to such nastiness.

I hear you :pcgs:.
Hey guys do you think PCE Neutopia I & II (Card, Case & Instruction for Both) for 39$ is a good deal?
Saying "Jap/JAP" is the exact same as saying "Nip". "Jap" is short for "Japan", the English name for Japan. "Nip" is short for "Nippon", the Japanese name for Japan. If it has to be explained that Nip is offensive (https://youtu.be/ClfHD8v_6FY), then I don't think that any further explanation will help.
