I found a ROM package of PCE games and to my surprise, it had Ninja Gaiden. I never knew they made this for the PCE. It plays exactly like the NES version, but more colorful and in the limited time I had to try it, seemed a bit more polished and not as frustrating. I have looked on eBay a few times and could not find it, just didn't know if anybody here had a copy to show. I assume it goes for high dollar?
meh, it's a cheap common game. the super choppy scrolling is a bit of a turn off, but it's a fun easy version to mess with.
Here ya go. :)

It isnt too terrible expensive, but not a cheapie either.

Nice, so it does exist. I hear ya about the choppiness, but it is fun.
I bet I never see it because I set eBay to "us only"
I have it. I think it usually goes for $30-40 on ebay. I haven't played the NES version in years but the graphics seem way better on the PCE. The most frustrating thing about the game is when you die on the final boss and have to restart at stage 6-1 rather than at the boss.

Which is also true of the NES version, and is the focus of the Angry Video Game Nerd episode on Ninja Gaiden.
There is English built right into the PCE version as well. I think you have to hold down Select or some other button combination at the title screen, but it will put the game with all text in the cutscenes into English. Did this on an emulator once, but I've been too cheap to shell out for the real version (some day though).
Really, English in the PCE Ninja Gaiden? Well, I've learn something new today. I'll have to check it out.
is it worth the money?
I believe its worth it.

I agree, its a pretty good game for the pce, I didn't know about putting in English though. Mark another game that's English friendly!

Right on, I was a bit put off by the graphics. But they are better than the NES version for sure. Will have to put this one on the list as well.
Just a fyi:

I enjoy this game because it is easier than the cheapo NES version. Though I prefer the NES graphics.
I remember the timing of the controls threw me for a loop when I first played the PCE version. I believe it's slightly different from the NES, but fine once you get used to it.

What exactly does Art Strength do?
I think it let's you use the special weapons. Been a long time, so not 100% sure.
Wow, People are bashing NGT on the SNES being lazy
If Tecmo wanted better graphics on the SNES, they would of made Ninja Gaiden IV
Anyone wanting to sell me a player's copy? I absolutely love the NES/FC version. I'm still looking for one. :-"

Really lazy port on the SNES, I think. It looks crappy.
I'm down for a copy too btw :D
I do have a loose copy but I don't think I want to sell it. Might trade it though in the future...
No, It wasn't a lazy port
The PCE version of NG is excellent, but the NES version still trumps it in the music department.
Have to say, I think the SNES port looks kinda lazy too. They could have done something different. Look at what Nintendo did with Super Mario Allstars.
I prefer the NES version, myself. I've played the PCE version and wasn't impressed with the visuals or the game play. It's OK, but not as good as the NES version.

Agreed.
The NES version is the all around winner. However, the later levels of the PCE version have some nice presentation and thumpin' tunes. :)

Eh? Do you honestly come across it often for 500yen or less? Really?

Always 1,000 or less as long as you stay out of the tourist rape shops.
I like the PC engine version cause the colors just look so much better.
It does have brighter colors, but it just looks more primitive, somehow.

I think I paid about $10 for my loose copy on ebay, so I'd agree it is pretty cheap.
