i have played through xak I and now iam straned at dead mountain island in xak II.
the old hag has greeted me i have equipped the sorcerer hat, saved the game and now if i load the safe file i cannot continue because stupid latok wont move!

how stupid is that bug??? now i cannot reach the end of the game and all the time i played it was for nothing...i only have 1 safe file...has anyone ever experienced something stupid like that???

i really hate xak I+II... :(

is there any chance for me to proceed again without starting over? i startet the game over and over again but latok only stand there and looks from the left side to the right...no moving at all..

i think i have to start xak II again...damn 3 hours for nothing...maybe i have one safe file left on my tennokoe bank...

i played it again and now iam nearly at the same scene. will play it again tomorrow and finish that beast finally. XD

I've played a few games in the series on old Japanese PC's. I believe I have Xak III for FM Towns, but I could never quite get into it. The quality is just not that good compared to stuff by Falcom and Glodia, etc.

i played xak III for one hour and could not beat the first boss, so i did not play it any further...
xak I+II are ridiculous hard at the beginning but very easy to the end and the boss battles are also way to easy.

ys is clearly the better series.

You couldn't beat the first boss in Xak III ??? Huh. I don't remember that game being difficult at all... Boring, but not difficult...

Wait, wait, I just remembered, I think the game was patched with D-Boy's (Derrick S.) joke fan translation patches from that joke site he had set up, "langfand00d" and whatnot. It's a very old gag he did, forgot all about it... ;)

Anyway, those patches are probably more fun to play the games with than my Xak III shit one. Heh.

EDIT: Well, I found D-Boy's old joke site (http://langfandood.tripod.com/xak2.html), he's got a joke patch for Xak I, but I couldn't find one for Xak II, so I dunno. ;)

I wanted to beat this at some point ( ITs the game i got free when i bought my Duo-R )   

The musics are BADASS, yet i stopped somewhere around 3/4 of the way through Xak I.

Gameplay is a bit weird on the Xak I :p

I can't recall it being difficult at all.  And whatever bug it was that gba encountered, I guess I didn't get through.

Xak I/II reminds me a lot of Ys.  The story/characters aren't as likeable/memorable as the Ys crew, but overall it's not a bad one at all.  Xak III is quite a bit different than I/II though.

i did beat so many old school rpgs in my life i cannot even count them but i have a list where i have listed everyone i ever beat with playtime. ;)
now i try to play through my complete pc engine rpg list, 15 games left to finish or so. now i play through star breaker.
i love old school rpgs along with beat em ups and shoot em ups.

xak I+II was the 11. pc engine rpg i have beat within 6 months. ;)

I beat the whole Ultima saga in one summer vacation.  ;)  Noones topping that.

I definitely can't top that, but I did Phantasy Star II-IV all in one summer vacation. That was about as hardcore as I'll ever get.

I beat Legend of Xanadu (the first one) when it came out new, back in the day. All japanese, no strategy guides or walk throughs, or hint of any kind. That's a lil' bit hard core (I had a little translation book where I attempted to translate important text in the game. If was difficult and that last 30+ floor dungeon... ugh). I also beat Emerald Dragon when it was new as well, and that game was a calk walk in comparison.

I'd still say Ultima 4 or 5 is more of a challenge than any RPG on the PCE.   Ultima V especially.  That game isn't for wimps.  Even if you're told exactly what to do, it'll still bang you in the ass repeatedly.
