Title: Gaiares
Post by: VenomMacbeth on 11/28/2012, 09:04 PM
I wanna talk about this game.

Gaiares seems to be widely considered to be one of the best shoot-em-ups on the MD.  The visuals are impressive, the gameplay mechanic is nifty & unique, and people seem to like the music.  I'll agree the game has gorgeous graphics for the hardware, but...the gameplay gimmick aside, it just doesn't do much for me.  The player ship a bit chunky, and the music...well...I really like the compositions, but the tones used are obnoxious, especially the stage 2 BGM.

My main point is that people seem to be really impressed with this game, but it just doesn't impress me as much as, say, Thunder Force IV, especially in the audio department.  What do you guys think?

It's definitely one of the best shooters for MD but pales in comparison to the good pce shooters so when you compare it to the gold it doesn't look so hot.

Interestingly enough, I used to prefer Gaiares to TF back in the day. Now I enjoy TF3 and 4 much more.

Two main things that kill it for me are:
1. If you lose you usually don't get a fair shot at a decent weapons upgrade
2. Not enough good weapons (I'm always using Giga Beam)

I wouldn't go so far as to say Gaiares pales in comparison to, well, any other shooter. It's certainly not the best shooter ever made, but it's definitely good enough to where it doesn't "pale".

hmm, honestly, i don't get much out of shooties for SNES or MD, save for a few exceptions.
those so far have been trouble shooter, trouble shooter vintage, musha, and raiden trad.
pretty much any other one has been weird for me.

The music / visuals are great, but the game is pretty ho-hum.

I still like it though.

Bought Gaiares on launch, played it, [beat it?], sold it. Was not a keeper to me but I respect it. I'd never sell my TF3 or Musha though.

I think it tries to much, plus the ship is not as cool to me.

I agree with #1 a billion times over, and I suck at these kinds of games so it's frustrating for me.

However, having a villain named Zz Badnusty is pretty cool.
