Here is an advert from a UK publication called 'New Computer Express'
Issue: 25
Publication date: 29th April 1989
You have just got to love the following "Only Micro Media PC Engines are supplied with a British Joystick Interface"
Yeah, but what is a British Joystick?
I like how you can write down ANY games for £29.95. I wonder if they'll still honor it (no expire date.) Let's give them a challenge :) .
Sapphire
Sylphia
Darius Alpha
Bomberman Users Battle
Akiyama Jin No Suugaku Mystery
Madou Monogatari
PC Cocoron
Renny Blaster
Super Real Mahjong I-V Special Versions
Shougi Database
I love this old advertisement! :pcgs:

Why do I fear that it was a cheap plastic joystick that you snap on top of the PCE's directional pad?
TELL ME I'M WRONG!
"British Joystick Interface" sounds like prime marketing BS ;-) along with ""The only quality controlled and approved PC Engine is that sold by Micro Media"
I wonder if it should read 'British Video Interface'. As they had an option where they would fit a PAL modulator for use with standard UK TVs without scart.
OMG I forgot about those plastic joystick snap ons for directional pads ;-)
Makes me chuckle though!

Ha! I agree about the B.S.
ALSO: sunteam_paul told me (in chat) he uses British Joysticks exclusively.
The joystick smells like tea and says cheers far too often.
I'm just amazed that I don't have to wait for tape!
NCE? Did you take some LDS? :P
Great advert. seen that somewhere before :)
I bet a British joystick has the D pad and buttons switched around just like the steering wheel on a car.
Here's a shot of the British Joystick. It came with an exclusive UK-only HuCARD.

Rolf, mr. Higgins.

The only thing that would make this better (for me), is if the British Joystick included an extra HuCARD: Mr. Belvedere (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Belvedere).
ASIDE: Americans can't get enough stereotypical British characters in their television shows. Especially when they are our servants!
UPDATE: I tried desperately to link Mr. Belvedere to a PCE game...but I got nothing. Paul's connection was brilliant.
Higgins and Belvedere went straight over my head.
Haha, Paul is the man today.

Paul is
always the man, but sometimes he chooses to be the man elsewhere.

Except on Thursday nights, when I'm the woman.
Nice find, thanks for posting.
