You heard the rumors, you saw the flyers Turbo Fest is returning to Chicagoland!! The summertime classic is back with more fun and more games to play. Come take part in our exciting 5-player Battle Lode Runner and Bomberman 94 tourney matches. Then, pilot a Raiden ship as you try to navigate the treacherous obstacles the game throws your way in this high scoring tournament.
Tournament times are as follows:
Battle Lode Runner: 11 AM
Bomberman 94: 1 PM
Raiden: 3 PM
The event will take place July 13th in Lombard, IL at the Heron Point Convention Center. The address is 665 W. North Ave in Lombard. It is in the same parking zone as the Fairfield Inn. Lombard is located a couple of miles west of Chicago. Turbo Fest is part of a retro-gaming convention called the Video Game Summit (VGS). The show, as well as Turbo Fest, will run from 9 AM-7 PM. There will be many people selling retro games and many other tournaments for other consoles as well. Arcades will also be present.
Admission is $5, but the price is well worth the admission. Entrance into our tournaments is 100% free. We would love to meet fellow T-16 enthusiasts such as yourselves.
In comparison to MGC, the VGS is smaller. However, you will find that the gaming area is very spacious and can do a great job accommodating the awesomeness that is Turbo Fest. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Come spend the day with your PCEFX brethren.
Let's keep the good times rolling!

I also want to point out some of the cool things Chicago has to offer in terms of gaming.
First off, Galloping Ghost Arcade is an absolute MUST-SEE. It is technically the second largest arcade in the US, and comprised of mostly retro arcades. It has got some pretty obscure cabinets such as Galaga 88, Street Fighter 1 (Fighting Street), Splatterhouse and many more. Feast your eyes on the amazing cabinet list:
http://www.gallopingghostarcade.com/games_list.htm
If you're in the mood for buying turbob games, you should check out the stores below. They have a decent selection of T-16 games.

TurboFest and the VGS are always a good time! Know of any new vendors or new events being added this year? I didn't attend in 2012.
To think that with 2013's event, it will have 7 years of TurboFests! Both with Chany's events and the years we ran it at MGC (Including the 4 TVs we had outside in the hallway in 2011!!!)
Bring's back memories of the funny "what should we call it" thread.... LOL
https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=1901.0
Count me in again this year - this was a blast in 2012!
Vendor area is tiny compared to MGC, but the deals were pretty damn good last year. I picked up Phantasy Star IV CIB for $20 last year and Einhander complete for $12.
Best part is just hanging out all day talking shop and playing games with no responsibility to run the show, a la MGC.
I vote to have pre kick off bash at Galloping Ghost the night before, just like last year!
Battle Lode Runner tourney here I come!
Gah! I so want to join in again. But it looks like I'll be moving/settling in during this year's Turbo Fest. :( It was one of the highlights of last year for me so I will do everything I can to make it, but right now it doesn't look like it's in the books.

HA! Moving/settling screws up another OBEY gamer gathering for ANOTHER PCFXer!!! SONOFABITCH!!!!
I just hope we're all moved/settled by this July. ;)
Sonofa...
Of all the times to be stuck overseas! This sounds like a helluva lot of fun! I am assuming this is held every year? If so, whenever I get back to Wisconsin, Chicago is not that far away :D
Wish I could go but this is taking place during the same time that EVO is taking place.
I will be attempting a visit from the New York Area. Either Plane or Train seems like round trip will be about 125ish. Once out there with the help of locals I hope to get around to a hotel and the VGS. Anyone else in the area interested making the trip with me and meeting up with some PCFXers? (possibly seeing about sharing some cost)
Esteban.... ESTEBAN WHERE ARE JOO!?
I will be there.
MAINE RESIDENTS: It's not fair that VGS occurs the same weekend that I'm in Maine. WHOEVER LIVES IN MAINE, I'll be in the Damariscotta area so we can have our own MaineFest.

Last year was awesome. Won't be able to make it this year, but hopefully I'll be able next year.
For those of you who can attend, well, attend!!! You'll have a blast. Apart from the Turbo, systems like the Jaguar and the Neo Geo AES are also there.
It would be awesome if you guys could stream some of the gaming events

I second that. Hook up the main turbob to the good ol dazzle and there you go. If logistics don't allow for live streaming, perhaps a "tape" delay on YT.
I'm planning on bringing my Neo Geo AES, my Sharp X68000 and potentially my PCE briefcase setup if we need another one.
Also should have a TV or two to bring.
I'll bring whatever is wanted. Maybe the nuon?
Thanks for the kind words you guys, much appreciated!

CRT Tvs with composite hookups would be very useful if you could bring one or two. It is a bit challenging for me to fit all these tvs and systems in my small car.

We could use an X68000 set up, same spot as last year. You are welcome to bring a nuon if you'd like. If we have empty spaces, we can definitely get a set up going.
I'll have to try and make it to this one. However, there is no way I'd even get there until at least 2pm or so since I require my beauty sleep. Ha.
It would be great to tear up some bomberman. I might even try to bring my bass player from my band since we grew up together on that game.

Chany:
Anything planned for Friday night before VGS? Galloping Ghost, etc? Trying to figure out what hotel nights to book.
Count Ash and me in. Chany, as always I will provide anything you need. With one exception...I think my days of lugging TVs around are coming to an end. With my arthritis it just isn't possible for me anymore. MGC this year nearly killed me.
Any chance of setting up a small Sega section? I have a beautiful Sega CD model 1 and some "rare" games that people might not get a chance to try. I would really like to snatch up Snatcher sometime before the show. What I can offer at this point would be games like Popful Mail, Soul Star, Android Assault, Robo Aleste. I will add more once I think of them.
Esteban, you make me cry.
@Jeff: the tentative plan will be similar to last year for Friday. We will visit the stores in Chi-town, lunch, and then Galloping Ghost at night.
@Mathius: Glad to hear you and Ash will be making the trip. :) I'm not sure if we will have space in room where the Turbo Fest room is, but if there are empty vendor spots, you are more than welcome to have the system there. There is also room in the main room, but I would imagine you would want to keep a close eye on your stuff.

Yeah I would want it where I will be hanging out. It's just a thought since the system doesn't get much love at shows. It's not a big loss if it doesn't happen. :)
Having a Sega CD would be a great adition to the show. Such classics as Batman Returns, the Terminator, Road Avenger, Final Fight...

Yeah, so true. Sega CD does have some good titles. I'll see what I can and let you know. :)
Nectarsis and I might be able to get an extra CRT or two down to the show.
Does anybody need a CRT? I can make a goodwill run and bring one down to the show. They usually run like $5 at the goodwills here.

I was looking at my calendar, and I have to drop off my girl at the airport on July 12th (she is going home for a visit). Since I'll be at the airport already, AND there are two non-stop flights to O'Hare...AND the girl is outta town...
Just checking the waters, but would anyone be game to pick me up from the airport in the AM on Friday? I can take city transport if need be. Also, hotel space...Fairfield says they're sold out, so any out-of-towners got some space for little drunk Tony?
I would not know if I'd be going until I got on that plane(standby), so nothing is guaranteed. But I'd love to roll around town with a bunch of turboheads on Friday.

Thanks for offering to bring the TVs and systems, much appreciated! We may or may not have room for the Saturn or Jaguar, but feel free to bring them just in case. Do you think you can arrive at the Heron around 8 or 8:30 AM so we can set up the stuff you are bringing? The show starts earlier this year at 9 AM.

box full of tradeables/give aways/goodies
1-Turbo Duo
1-PC Engine
1-Atari Jaguar/Saturn
some games
about 15 bottles of Rolling Rock/Leinenkugel's
2-3 TVs. Have 2 13" Flat Screen monitors w/ A/V inputs that are pretty good for quick set up.

I will do my best, I believe I have a 5 hour drive ahead of me, so I'll probably leave around 3am. :) WOO
Leave Friday night, silly! Party and conversate with Jeff and me all night and STILL be late on Sat morning.
Def need more beer...
I was planning on bringing my AES, and my X68000 compact for my annual Beamer make-sure-its-still-working checkup.
Anybody going to have a VGA monitor there?
I may have a surprise for you jeff... how much ram did you have?
Quote from: BlueBMW on 07/11/2013, 11:52 AMI may have a surprise for you jeff... how much ram did you have?
I've got the 2MB expansion (and I think 2MB on board already) for a total of 4. Also have the Midi card and a roland SC-55.
Also - anybody have an ETA on Friday night's Galloping Ghost trip? 6pm? 7pm? Bueller?
*sigh*
I plan to head to GG when I arrive (between 11a and 8:30p). In case I do not catch a plane Friday, since it's looking poor ATM, I'll get the 1st plane out of Charlotte on Saturday and just go directly to VGS unless I can hitch a ride.
Crossing fingers and hoping my seniority level is high enough to board that plane! I'll txt you Jeff to let you know if I made it or not.

Call in.
I know Chany will be occupied Friday so is there still a downtown trip planned? If not no worries. Ashley and me are planning on being there tonight.

I'm mired in SharePoint hell at the moment at work so it's looking like I'm probably a go for 4pm departure tomorrow. With traffic, road stops, tolls, etc. that'll probably put me at GG around 6pm. Shoot me a text with your flight status when you know for sure.
Looks like most peeps are arriving later in the day. Ash and me will probably just head to GG later Friday.
Only one day away! I will be MIA for most of today, but I am looking forwarding to meeting up with you guys once again! Let's show peops how we obey! :D

Sweet - pretty sure I brought everything I need to hook it up (except a game pad with a DIN connector - but i'm sure we can dig one up). Need to get that Midi configured!
AES tested and working - I fired up my brand new copy of Super Spy, realized it sucked, and packed it right back into storage :) Brought some classics along though for everyone to play.
We just checked into Comfort Suites room 208. Traffic in Lombard is a bitch this year.
Only a few more hours to go!
Just got back from GG. Had fun great seeing those who went.
I will be there looking forward to seeing y'all.

My pick-ups and wins. SMS Rampage and Tetris DX have been on my short list for a good spell. There where some good deals on commons for sure, much like a flea or garage sale (no complaints there!)
Good times, good games and okay beer. Only had to wait 6 hours in the airport both ways, but well worth it. Glad to get up with obey ppls (Jag and Atari folks that do not follow the church of Turbo are dead to me). I'd like to personally thank Old Style for making Saturday even more enjoyable for me. Shout out to the crew that made it happen.
I finally got to get some time on Pyramid Plunder.

Q1: Is that Sol Feace on the X68000? How does it compare to Sega cart/CD?
Q2: Can we list all the TG-16/PCE games on display at VGS2013? (Puyo Puyo, Pyramid Plunder, Monolith, Jackie Chan, Battle Lode Runner, Rabio Lepus, Raiden? and __________ .)
Q3: Was the Tg-16/PCE area any less popular (dead) compared to other areas of the show?
I'd say that the turbo was definitely the life of the party as far as the gaming area is concerned. The area was especially buzzing when he had the five player matches of Battle Lode Runner, Bomberman 94 and Revival Chase. The Neo Geo AES station was also very popular. I had to wait a couple of hours for that station to clear out to play Windjammers with a fellow PCFX'er. :P
Esteban,
In partial answer to your #2 question:
In addition to the games you listed, the following Turbo games were played at VGS this year that I remember.
Aero Blasters, Bomberman '94, Raiden, Revival Chase, Tatsujin, Sylphia? (I think.), Legend of Valkyrie
