Title: Hi all.
Post by: Solvalou on 08/04/2013, 03:29 AM
Hello all.

I am a new member of the PCEngine club and am from the UK. My first PCE console being the handheld GT! Chuffed to bits with it right 'til the point I turned it on and well i'm sure you guys know the usual problems with these.
But it's kinda' why i'm here, to get some light on it (quite literally actually) and hopefully some support as i'm sure many of you here are highly experienced with these cool handhelds aswell as the consoles too i'm sure. I'd ideally want to get her running again as I will be getting an Everdrive soon. The thought of Soldier Blade on a handheld makes me salivate to say the least!

So before I bug people with my n00bishness I thought i'd say hi and that I am excited about having my first PCEngine console.  :)

Welcome, comrade.

The GT can be fixed...it's a damn shame that you are in the UK (what a horrible fate!), but don't mention it ever again and we will pretend you live in a swamp in New Jersey, USA, America, United States thereof.

Seriously, though, welcome.  :pcgs:

Where, specifically are you in the UK? We need more Welsh PCE fans, for example...

Thanks indeed, sadly i'm not in the west country, quite the opposite infact as i'm at the most eastly point of Britiain. But i'm not one to hold a grudge with anyone wherever they are from. :)

But yes thanks again for the warm welcome, I hope that I can sent my GT to someone here that provides a repair service, or atleast a diagnostic of what it needs doing.

Welcome aboard.  How many sheets of flying drywall have you destroyed today?

As for your GT, what exactly is it doing (or rather not doing)?  The most likely culprit is bad caps, which quite a few guys here can do but would require pricey shipping to/from the US.

Welcome to Pcenginefx!

So, what are your favorite TG-16/PC Engine games?

Well pretty much everything. It's very dull (hoping the backlight isn't blown but seem entirely likely), sound although not too bad is far too quiet and it's in just a general mess picture wise though the condition of the actual unit is pretty good considering it's had a fair bit of use.

I will make a thread on it later though and see what sort of feedback I get.

Many thanks indeed. I havn't really explored the library much but I already love Soldier Blade and the Bonk series. That was enough for me to want to explore more into this platform. :)

Your'e not too far off (about 5 miles or so off) but it's even more east then that!

I have seen the eBay offer but i'd rather take it to someone I can rely on here and has a history of fixing them if there are guys like that here?

Yeah it is cool to see people from the UK, considering the TurboGrafx had a very small release there.

Yes but the PC engine was fairly popular in Europe in general.  :)
Title: Re: Hi all.

Where in Europe was it most popular? I'm far from an expert but I'm thinking France.
Title: Re: Hi all.
Post by: turboswimbz on 08/08/2013, 03:02 PM
France in particular, in fact it is still a popular retro machine there as evidence found around the forum here, but it also had quite a following in the german countries and spain too.

Some of the members here from those countries can tell you about seeing them in the magazines and stores around those area.

I have heard tales that there are many more french modifed PCE units to be had than PAL Turbo Grafx units. In fact I believe a new in box PAL Turbo is cheaper than a PCE in most cases in europe.  (Dragonmaster Dan has quite a bit of knowledge in this area.)

Authentic milky white only for me.

Absolutely no disrespect to anyone but the little milky oozes sex appeal compared to the turbo grafx.

What do the rest of you think?

Ahh there are pages and pages that say what you just have here in threads all ove rthe place.

Clearly PCE>Turbo design wise

You know what, i'm so used to that being an obscure reverence to a real cult Namco release that it flew right over my head. You sir deserve +1 internet point just for that. :D

Glad to see brit's are welcome here though so thanks again for the welcome's.

I never knew there were actually official PAL Grafx consoles out there. I would love a PCE or Gfx console someday if I can get one at the right price but they seem to be really sky-rocketing on eBay and such in the last couple of years.
