My choice is easy. Dynastic hero. It is my third favorite Action/RPG of all time next to Landstalker and Secret of Mana. I have a long history with the Wonderboy games. Played Adventure Island growing up and Wonder Boy in Monster Land on SMS. Wonder Boy in Monster World was my favorite Genesis game in the early history of the console. I played the heck out of that game. When I first started collecting Turbo Grafx in 1998 I picked up a English copy of Dynastic Hero which even back then cost me I think a little over $100.00 from a private collector. It was incredibly hard to find back then. I waited 6 months checking eBay every day and lucked out cause my friend had connections with a turbo collector/modder.

The only downside to Dynastic Hero is that it is so much easier that the genesis version. But is has excellent music, amazing graphics, and is just plain fun!

I love all the other games listed too. But I realize Nintendo isn't the holy grail of video game design, or originality for that matter.

well Dynastic Hero and Dragon's Curse aren't really the same kind of game as Zelda.  I'd rather compare those to Zelda II.

Of all of these, I picked Ys IV because it fucking rules.

Yeah, Neutopia II for the win. I wish there were a couple glitches in that game, but otherwise, its all around fun. I see the split more as -

Scrolling Hack n' Slash:
Dynastic Hero/Dragon's Curse/Zelda II/Y's III/Exile/Exile:WP

Top Down Adventure:
LoZ/Neutopia/Neutopia II/Y's I&II/LttP/Lagoon/Soul Blazer/Illusion of Gaia/Terranigma/Link's Awakening/Minish Cap/Okenoughalready

well I was considering them all to be action RPG's. Is there a rule the games must play exactly the same? I should have put neutopia on there, but honestly I didn't think anyone would like them more than us or Zelda.

I'm more of a Cadash kinda' guy. Ever since I played it way back when, I've always held it as one of my favorite scrolling RPGs. I prefer the Priestess over the other three classes.

For top-down I gotta go with Link to the Past. It was just so great in every way, and I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. Also worthy of note is Beyond Oasis for the Genny. LTTP it wasn't, but it was a pretty damn good game IMO.
