Title: What gives with dead hu cards?
Post by: waynedoodle on 12/04/2013, 08:42 PM
Hi guys!  New around here but this seems to be the spot to get answers to my question or dilemia.

Recently I pulled my TG16 w/ CD player out from my parents shop/storage building.  It has been in there for almost 15 years.  I know the CD player is gone from stripped out gears (took it apart).  However all the hu cards that were in the CD storage case won't load EXCEPT Vigallante that was evidently last played in college as it was still in the drive.  Could it be the heat destroyed my Splatterhouse, Keith Courage, China Warrior, TG16 CD cards?  All I get is a white screen but Vigalante works fine.

Thanks for the input!

Hey. Sucks that these games aren't working? Have you tried cleaning the copper contacts? I believe alcohol and qtips work.

OBEY!

Push the game card in, turn on the system and with the lock slider in place pull the card out until it hits the lock. Turn off and turn back on and see if that gets the games to boot up. I've had some games that will bring up a white screen and doing this fixed the problem.

Hope this helps, also as ceti said try some alcohol on the contacts or a small eraser but I fear that dirty contacts on the cards aren't the problem if you have a bunch of games not working

After sitting around for 15 years....
And with multiple games not working...

My guess would be the card connector. Wrap a (cut) dryer sheet around a (dead) credit card, put a little alcohol on the end, and insert/remove several times. Let dry and see if it helps.

Temp changes in the storage may have damaged them too.

i do believe you meant to type HuCARD

That being said cleaning fixed all my cards with white screen only truely dead one I had was one that gave no picture whatsoever.

Try cleaning the contacts themselves too.  just rub a regular pink eraser over them to shine em up.

between that and the dyersheet trick, I would imagine you'll bring at least a few back to life

Try all the goodies outlined here, if they are truly dead though you need to give them a Viking style funeral.

I always use rubbing alcohol applied with a Q-tip to the game contacts. Then use an old toothbrush to scrub the game contacts.

Thanks guys for all the recommendations.  Now, I have to go get some rubbing alcohol.  Really wish my CD unit still worked to play some Fighting Street.  Loved to execute the shi-ru-Ken and kick everyone's tale in one hit.

Street fighter uno? You need to upgrade to dos!

But you will need a converter or japan system and a 6 button controller...

Well, I tried everything yesterday inside th TG16 and on the HuCards.  I wrapped two cards with coffee filter paper; one with rubbing alcohol and the other dry.  Also rubbed the heck out of the card's pins with an eraser.

Sadly, nothing worked.  All this did was change the screen from white to purple.  I think I will most regret losing the T16 CD HuCard and Splatterhouse.  Not willing to spend a whole lot of $ on a replacement card.

However, should I get someone to repair the CD gears and maybe get a new CD hucard or just save up and get a modded PCduo?

*** UPDATE!***
Decided to try and clean the contacts one more time with the expensive deoxit.  It did not work, at first.  I tried it a few nights later reversing a hucard and coffee filter.  Well, it worked!  Now to get the CD drive's gear replaced. Wa-hoo!
