I think it's fantastic that a game I purchased 6 months ago for only $50 can now be sold for $300+ dollars. A 20% increase in 6 months?! That's better than every stock, GIC and Mutual Fund I own has done in the past 5 years combined. Screw real estate, I'm going to become a reseller.

This stuff is only going to get worse as times go on. About the only thing you can do to combat it is not buy it at those prices, or maybe make lots of fake ebay ids and keep doing BIN on the thing if it is not set for instant payment.

Do we punish the buyer or the seller? I think the US gov't dealt with the same issue during the 90's war on drugs...Columbia would not produce cocaine if US citizens did not love it so much.
I do not fret over it and just look at listings for the lulz. (I never was aiming for a complete collection anyways)

All kidding aside, it seems awfully easy to "game" ebay values. I start an auction for Deep Blue, you bid it up to $500. Auction ends showing it being sold. Then all the vultures see it and start listing it for $449. Actually that gives me an idea for a science experiment. [evil laughter]
