Just came across this on Ebay and was wondering if anyone had ever seen one of these before. It has the TG16 logo on the sleeve and the date is 1990. Thought about trying to get it just to see what it is. Definitely not for the Laseractive since it's dated 1990. Perhaps it's nothing more than a preview disc, maybe for the CES or something so that it would have improved picture quality over a VHS tape. Any ideas?
Probably just one of the two general Turbo promo VHS tapes on laZerdisc. Still neat that they bothered to put it on LD.
I saw that last week on ebay but never got around to posting about it on the forums. It will be interesting to see how much it fetches.
of course no one has seen it because the description yells "I HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT IS ON THE DISC MYSELF"
I am in on this one for curiosity sake, but I think it might go above what I am willing to toss out.
Must be the prototype version of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 for LDRom²

So you're the one who outbid me. :P
I hope you'll post the video online if you win.
Paraphrased from Dan in Lady Chatterley's Box: it's the same Turbob promotional material as found on the VHS tapes and one sold last year to Henry.

$75 was my top bid, so someone saved me too. Since it is just the same promo video everyone has seen a million times, I didn't want to go nuts.
I assume there was some guy ready to bid $500, so I just gave up.
I love those video's
Quote from: Nulltard on 01/08/2014, 11:21 AMDamn, i'd love to have an LD version of that. I posted rips of 3 different promo vids to youtube, but all of them have parts where the tracking goes nuts and audio gets poppy. Hopefully whoever got it has the decency to share it with the world in digital form.
I don't think the videos on my site have tracking issues.
Is the promo video the one where they show a load of japanese games, including Altered Beast?
I was surprised it only went for $80, but that sounds like about what the previous copy went for a couple years back. I was interested when I thought it was some LA related, but the 1990 date obviously put that to rest. I'm guessing it was used in a trade show where they wanted a promo running constantly and didn't want to rewind a tape every hour or so reps could be out talking to folks instead.
As Nulltard already mentioned, it would be nice to get the LD because it should offer superior video/audio than VHS sources.
I hope the person who won shares the content. I'm not going to hold my breath, though. (https://junk.tg-16.com/images/pcgsad.png)
I bought it. I'm going to copy it and post it as soon as I get the disc and a video capture card.
Woot! Good to hear it's going to a pcefxer and that you're gonna share the goodies.

Very cool, I am excited to see it. I do hope it is just the same old promo, so I have no low bidding regrets!

I really doubt it's anything new but I don't really collect memorabilia much so it's nice to have something that is kind of unique.
I did notice the run time seems shorter on the disc than the previous VHS promo videos which are posted on the internet. Maybe it ends up being something new after all....
Wow, haha. Laserdisc certainly isn't anything you see often these days anymore, that's interesting. Probably a promo thing as stated before though.
The disc showed up today, I still need the video capture card but here is the disc itself:

I did not know (and probably the seller too) that the instruction page was in the jacket. It's nothing more than instructions on how to get the LD players that were probably supplied with whatever the disc goes to to repeat the disc.
I guess that the instructions confirm that it was used in trade shows and/or store displays (I would guess the 1st because they mention two specific laserdisc players instead of trying to generalize the instructions to all players).
The disc said P.O.P LaserDisc on it. P.O.P. usually means point of purchase. For those who've never worked retail its basically what all the marketing material is called.

My guess is that it's the disc that goes to one of these:

So I saw you said you still needed a capture card, but have you watched the disc itself already then? Anything new on it?
PS-Thank you for being cool and not hiding this away from the world!
Very cool item. What a collectors item.

If I told you what was on the disk I would have to kill you.
Naa, I had to get another LD player also. Mine must have died since the last time I fired it up. Fortunately they are very cheap and I have another on the way.
I say the community either donates a video capture card or we get a little fund raiser going on...

Well, everything is already on the way...
Spin it on your finger under a bright light really quickly in the meantime, the suspense is killing me.
If you end up having any issues, I'd be happy to record it for you. :)
MAY 1990 printed the disc....so it was after the 1989 launch/holiday, but still pretty early. I hope a handful of "new" games (beyond launch titles) will be mentioned.
It's fun waiting for the big reveal. :pcgs:

I WOULD LIKE TO SUBSCRIBE TO YOUR NEWSLETTER GOOD SIR!
My replacement LD player arrived today. The disc what I and everyone expected, a point of purchase disc that was most likely in a larger kiosk. I took a quick look at everything on youtube having to do with TG-16 commercials, promotional, and sales videos and none of them were this disc. My capture card should be here tomorrow so I can rip and put it on youtube then.

I'm definitely curious as to what's on it.
Here it is:

If anyone wants the .AVI file I can upload it this evening.
Loved it! Thanks for taking the time to upload it and share it with us!
Sweet! Thanks for sharing. Is that all that's on the disc?
P.S. - the bastards used an apostrophe... ](*,)
Haha.
I love how they talk up all the games with accolades and such, then he just says "you can also try vigilante and china warrior".
lol why did they sneak in Pacland with the other chooter games 8-[

Yep, it's on there 4 times on one side of the disc and the other side is blank.

Dude, that's awesome. ( : Thanks so much for ripping this! And I'd love a copy of the .AVI file! Let me know if you need a place to host it and I'll set you up with an FTP account @ DoxPhile.
Thanks, I have plenty of hosting space at jelloslug.com but if you want to rehost it feel free.
So now that some of you guys have seen it does anyone remember seeing this in a store?
After watching through part of it I still think it was probably for use in trade show like CES or something back in the day. I honestly don't remember ever seeing videos in stores, it was normally just a console hooked up with a demo game to hammer on.
I would like the avi too
Quote from: guest on 01/17/2014, 10:47 AMSo now that some of you guys have seen it does anyone remember seeing this in a store?
I think I remember seeing this or something damn close to it at Toys R' Us back in the day. I distinctly remember seeing the Valis 2 and Y's clips. Could have been VHS though, not sure (it was in a kiosk box/cabinet)
Thanks for sharing this :-)
Thank you so much for going through all that effort, Jelloslug! It's so wonderful to see another piece of Turbo history saved, archived, and displayed for all to see. :D
I would really like to find out what the disc actually goes to.
Yes I would like an AVI also! Dude!
This brought back so many memories. They used to showcase this video a lot back in the day at the Turbo Zone retail island store in the mall.
Very nice.
Quote from: guest on 01/17/2014, 10:47 AMSo now that some of you guys have seen it does anyone remember seeing this in a store?
I don't remember seeing this specific one. I must have seen an earlier one that emphasized Blazing Lazers, China Warrior, Vigilante, Legendary Axe and the other launch titles.
So, not that we can treat this as gospel (Dan! Where are you?), but we have some tentative release dates that may corroborate DragonMasterDan's release timeline:
CHEW MAN FU — July 1990
DEVIL'S CRUSH — August 1990
PSYCHOSIS — August 1990
TIMEBALL — July 1990
SUPER VOLLEYBALL — September 1990
VALIS II — July 1990
Here is the video file:

I have a higher res version but to be honest it looks just about the same.

This didn't make any sense at all! I was cracking up at that and when the guys were jumping on the couch at the beginning.
I know Esteban would be posting about release dates too... lol
The song that starts to play when they put the CD in is awesome. The kid drumming almost ruined it though.
I am glad I didn't win this, as you have done a much better hosting job that I ever would have. Thanks jelloslug.

Yes! The kid drumming and then doing some lame air guitar is painful, but thankfully brief.
The other kid, on the left, really looks constipated + shaky leg syndrome most of the time.
"Have a ball with Timeball..."
Anyway, this was a nice little video. Overall, given the time period, I can't really fault it. I especially liked the use of the "TG-16" font for nearly all the large text in the video.
QUESTION (might be incredibly boring for most folks): Does anyone know of other videos that feature that TG-16 font primarily (I'm assuming promos for launch would have it)? Anyone want to identify when the font was no longer used?
I think it would be fun to track the evolution of TG-16 marketing and after watching the video I realized that the TG-16 font was certainly an element of branding, but it wasn't used too much in print advertisements/videos.
