Title: New to the forums
Post by: Gamefan on 02/01/2014, 01:55 PM
Hello everyone!

First post here and actually first time being on this site. I have caught the NEC bug and am looking to start collecting for this little gem of a console. How difficult is it to import the systems? I am a hardware nut and would love to start collecting all the variations of the NEC consoles.

Any tips for a newcomer to NEC collecting?

Thanks,

GAMEFAN  :)

Tip? Get a Duo. Get your feet wet with that before diving into the variations. US or JP, doesn't matter since prices of US games have gone up and it sounds like you're a hardware guy, so a mod is right up your alley. Know that all the consoles are over 20 years old and will most likely need repairs unless you purchase something that has had already been fixed. Factor that in on the price.

If you do score a PCE Duo, getting a el cheapo TG-16 could hold you over on US HuCard side of life until you manage the region mod or convertor(<- those getting in the $100 range).

For those about to obey, we salute you.

Welcome aboard!  Get a PCE Duo/R/RX and region mod it (converter cards are a waste of time and money); any version is good but expect an original, black Duo to need caps if they haven't been done yet.

Thanks everyone! I have begun the hunt for a PC Engine DUO or SuperGrafx with Super CD-ROM2 attachment. I love the SuperGrafx design.

Be aware that SuperCDROM2 add ons typically need capacitor replacements now too...

If you're a hardware guy go all in and get the Laseractive + PAC-N1 combo :)  Laseractive unit should cost you $150 to $200, the PAC probably $250 to $350.  PACs typically need capacitor replacements also.
