Title: Did the Chinese obey the PCE on this one?
Post by: Psycho Punch on 03/24/2014, 02:01 AM
http://youtu.be/Hjr-4QjuBH4 [NES]Magic Dragon - ファミコン版 R-TYPEもどき ALL CLEAR (https://youtu.be/Hjr-4QjuBH4)

It's a pirate original (that means it is programmed from scratch-- no hacks). It's based on an obvious arcade and PCE hit, see if you can find out which game is it
Of course this game got ported to 9999 platforms, but skip to near the end of the video... noticed something? Yeah, it only goes through half of the original game and then it cuts abruptly with a little cutscene of your ship descending in a platform. Which version is notorious for doing that (only half of the game in one cart)?

I need to ask a question: how popular was the PCE outside Japan in Asia? It's weird how this version looks to be a copy of a japan-only home port of the arcade hit.

PS: managed to guess which game they copied? No? Here's the answer: Bazaru Degozaru.

Look at all that Mode-7.  SNES was truly an amazing beast even when China got involved.

Are you sure this isn't a sprite hack? Ether way, it's still an impressive Obey!

No wonder you always hate on SNES.  The above video is from an NES game, not SNES. :P

Expecting any respect for Nintendo products on a NEC forum is asking for trouble. Imagine telling a Sega forum how ear-piercing the Genesis soundchip sounds or complaining about warping PS1 textures to a Sony forum.

Decent R-Type clone, by the way. Back then, there was no port on the FC/NES, was there?

Uhh I was just pointing out the similarities between this clone and PCE R-Type since they both are cut in half and end the same way... this was more to ask about PCE popularity in Asia outside Japan more than anything.

Most of the peeps I know here love and enjoy all the retro platforms of the 80s and 90s. And though we love the PC Engine, most of us are not ignorant to its weaknesses. Please don't judge.

Many thanks.
I am judging from what I've seen on numerous posts in many threads of this forum. My impressions from these posts told me that anything related to Nintendo seems to be rather unwelcome in this place.

I understand that some of the members who have been here for years won't change their bold behavior. That's fine with me. But showing more respect and mature behavior won't hurt either, will it?

I for myself like and own many old consoles, be it from NEC, Sega, Nintendo or Sony.

NES/Famicom = best console, ever. Historically, I have spent the most time with it, simply because the library is huge.

Anyway, many of us have lots of 8-/16-bit consoles + handhelds we play regularly...even 3DO gets some love (from a couple of us).

Yeah. I actually think this looks like a pretty decent bootleg. Of course, I've never played it and I don't know how the controls are...but, some day, I will play it.

Been on a major ps2 KOEI kick lately with Nobunaga's Ambition Iron Triangle and Romance of the Three kingdoms X, but getting the itch to go for a few pce clears!
