Looks interesting, more than likely won't have anything or very little on NEC and the PCE/TG16.
Are there any books, special magazines that detail this gaming time frame from NEC's POV?
What about one that covers the whole industry from an international POV. It seems that console war only focuses on the US.

lol, I want a book with the big view, Japan, US, Europe, but specifically looking at Japan during those years.
fight a war without the OBEY? NO WAY!

The TG16 probably gets mentioned in that book, more than likely a foot note. Would love to find out.

I just picked the book up today but given my slowness in reading I am sure you will find out way sooner from someone else :)

Couldn't even spell it right :(
EDIT: I hate you Nulltard, I didn't even read the paragraph and then realized afterward you were trolling :)
Holy hell! Go 30 seconds in and hear what he says, and this nimrod wrote a book about the most important console wars era. Really? ...This guy?
Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo, and the Battle that Defined a Generation by Blake J. Harris (https://youtu.be/Z19VGYJnnNI#ws)
I have judged this goober to be an idiot simply based on his appearance.
Resume you discussion below:

Hahahaha.

lol!
Wow.... Clearly he's an expert in the field. :-k
War has never been so much fun... with NEC in the mix that is. Wow I can't really believe that guy wrote a book, ghostwriter anyone? lol
It's sad that no gaming journalist actually went to research how NEC established their US operation for the Turbografx, etc... they have SEGA stuff in so much detail and in the other hand we don't even know the name of the person who was the "big boss" of the Turbografx-16. NEC and TTi stuff would give a pretty interesting story IMO.
I liked the part where he said he hadn't touched a Genesis in 15-20 years... and yet was inspired to write this book. Wha!?!

HAHAHA. this is so ridiculous. one of the dumbest guys out there. I guess these days every dumbass can write a book.

ROLF YEAH! sheer unbeliveable if you ask me!!
and now he gets the big monies from AAALL the hipsters outthere.
Dude is a fakester, and is just hoping to sell some books based off the current retro gamer fad. I am sorry but if you completely stopped playing for so many years (and mostly sports games as it seems with this guy) you have no business to be writing a book about it. I took it out of my original post with the video in this thread, but I said he probably got most of his information at nintendoage. Now I believe it's a possibility.
UBERWORD!!!
I couldn't even get halfway through the first video. What an asshat.
Alright, alright. Whom among us here are writers? I bet we can create a book that would blow the lids out of anything that's come before. We can use the proceeds to have everyone involved get a copy of Rondo or something ;)

We could easily blow the book out of the water and write our own....only for us to be the only ones to enjoy it fully :D
You can title it:
The Untold Story Of How The PCEngine Tried To Rule The World.
Actually i would like to see this happen. We should write a book detailing the NEC game war.
"Obey PCE: The War against FEKA and NINTENDO in Japan"
I want to believe.
I will try to do it tomorrow my friend, I'm only stopping when I finish it (or I run out of poster paper).

Opening questions: "Do you play any games?"
Response: "Candy Crush!"
"If I hadn't dedicated this book to my wife, I would have dedicated it to Candy Crush."
You guys think this poser tool writing the book was bad enough? They're making a goddamn hollywood movie out it, directed by Seth f'ing Rogan:

QuoteThe pair will also direct, while Harris, who conducted hundreds of interviews for the book to get an in-depth look at the rivalry that upended the video game industry, will serve as a producer on the film.

I should write a book about any hot hipster topic right now based on some quick google searches and public interviews... I want to be rich and famous too!
just do'h eet!
It's not actually too bad of a book although NEC is only mentioned twice once in the prologue and again in the next generation section. I'm still not sure if there is any truth to Sega of Japan turning down slicon valley and sony to help with Sega`s next gen console but it definitely wasn't a bad read by all means.

Buy it. I finished reading it in 2 days. If anything it will shine some light on Sega of America and Sega of Japan's relationship.
Quote from: guest on 05/18/2014, 08:35 PMAt worst, it will fill the gap if you run out of tp.
Unless you want hemorrhoids probably not a good idea. Like I said, its really not a bad book.

Interesting.
The Sega of America vs. Sega of Japan battle is discussed pretty in-depth in Service Games: The Rise and Fall of Sega, also.
My only gripe with that book is that Sam Pettus gets a little jingoistic about Sega in parts. But it's otherwise pretty good.

All of that stuff is in the "Ultimate History of Video games" book.

"Another failed entry to the U.S. market in the late 80's, the TurboGraphx-16 was marketed as a 16-bit console to compete with the upcoming Sega Genesis and other rumored systems. This remake of the Japanese PC Engine, however, was in fact an 8-bit console and a weak one at that. Based on the same CPU as the Nintendo Entertainment System, the TurboGraphx-16 failed to impress gamers with its bland, monochromatic graphics and sound capabilities reminiscent of the Atari 2600. When true 16-bit systems were released with features such as Blast Processing and Mode 7, NEC rushed to release a poorly thought out CD attachment for the system as yet another marketing gimmick. Systems sold worldwide never broke into the 6-figure range, and NEC of America ceased to exist after going bankrupt due to the rash of returns from unsatisfied gamers, which were then sold at a premium by a P.O. Box corporation titled Turbo Technologies Incorporated."
Oh wow my excerpt made it into the book! I remember submitting this about Six months back. It's my first major publication.
