Title: I have nothing against homebrewers auctioning Limited Editions to aid with $$$
Post by: Psycho Punch on 06/28/2014, 06:13 PM
...but isn't this a little bit overboard? The "Armed for Battle" Limited Edition is:
1: Numbered
2: Comes with pretty box (also numbered)
3: Different NES cart (blue and with diff. label)
4: Exclusive levels
5: Built-in Cheats
6: CDROM with teh betazz and an early build source code, including dev diary
7: Customized for each costumer with name insertion
8: Customization only for top 2 bidders
9: Have magnets from the game as a bonus with a fucking RARITY GUIDE.

Look at the 8 previous items... isn't it enough to ensure a fierce bid war on NintendoAge? Can't the release stand on its own feet without the added layer of gotta-catch-em-all-collector bait? Jesus.

Give the people (yes Nintentards are technically human on some level) what they crave!

The Nintendo fanbase is the worst thing I can say about the systems. I wish Nintendo would have made the Retron5 (minus the Genesis) as they'd be giving gamers a Nintendo system they'd actually  want and make some money off the craziness!

This is what fuckasses do when they try to turn homebrewbs into srscash.

I hope the magnets don't even stick to fridges and they fall off every time you get a pudding.

This nothing compared to the "Dankey Kang" debacle.

I regret to have searched for it. Travis @ NESConnection deserves a congressional medal of honor. (http://www.nesconnection.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=747&start=68)

I mean I have nothing against LE in general (actually I think arkhan should consider somehting like that in the future considering that those 3D printed hucards cost a lot of money and sweat to make) and it is a great way to cope with monetary costs. But let's not get overboard with the artificial rarity thing ok?

Oh god, this doesn't even scratch the surface.

Guy pays someone to make a crappy ROM hack based on a photoshop joke. Its literally one of the laziest hacks in existence - it is two-four sprite edits, to replace barrels with rings, and the first level walk-way to look like Green Hill Zone from Sonic. They also did a palette swap to color Donkey Kong like Sonic. (Later, he will say he paid big money for this hack). It uses the DK+Pie Factory ROM, which is basically stolen from Nintendo  AND another hacker/modder who added the pie factory to the NES ROM.

People on NA go ga-ga for it, and start requesting copies. So the guy has a limited number produced, and holds the biggest con-artist auction style in the world. It intentionally creates panic: You get a single bid, time extends with every bid close to the end, so it forces people who really want it to overpay.

People paid $100+ for this garbage. Seriously, there are hundreds of more extensive ROM hacks. When confronted about the limited run, and basically intentionally whipping up frenzy, he A) "loses the ROM file" and B) He paid a lot for this shitty ROM hack to be done. People call him on his bullshit, and it turns into a drama-fest.

Drama starts here:

What's worse? He creates a registry for this junk.

I got a kick out of the initial cart as I like memes. The following shit just made me shake my head. NA has its positive sides, but this isn't one of them.
