It is selfish of us to be clogging up the N64 price thread with an argument so please indulge me and continue in this thread.
For a recap this was my my last rebuttal to you.
Quote from: vestcunt on 08/21/2014, 01:35 AMMostly this. Also because your questions weren't really questions. If I had a nickle for every time some idiot with two hundred posts tried to turn the tables and accuse me of the same gouging they practice, I'd have a shitload of nickles. Like I said, not everyone tries to exploit their hobby peers for profit.
It is a damn good thing that the post count on an online forum is how a person is measured. I will remember to put that on my resume' when I am a baller like you.
Since there is no reasoning with you perhaps you could give me some guidance? I have a great example to give from this weekend. I walked into a Savers Thrift Store and found a GameCube bundle for $9.00. The bundle included:
1.) Silver GameCube and all hookups
2.) Wavebird controller and 2 receivers
3.) Loose GBA startup disc (it was in the Gamecube).
I have been wanting a Wavebird for a long time. And this is finally my chance to own one. What should I do? I can tell you what my plan is:
1.) I will keep the Wavebird
2.) I gave the extra receiver to my friend who had a controller only
3.) I will use the GBA disc as trade bait for something I don't have.
4.) I will list the GameCube on Craigslist for$10.00
I don't see how any of this is wrong but I would surely like you to tell me the right thing to do, so I don't ruin the hobby and continue on with my parasite ways.
Now that I think about it, you are definitely in the minority. Every single person I know (friend and foe) that collects retro games do some buying/trading/selling on many levels. I honestly can't think of a single person I know or have talked to at a gaming convention that has followed your methods of:
1.) Only using money earned from providing an important service (work) that doesn't include the buying and or reselling of stuff.
2.) Have a collection of games that were all only purchased when brand new because otherwise you might have to buy an item from a parasite
3.) If there is an item you no longer play or have purchased and decided you didn't like it you either give it away or throw it away.
I commend your purity from videogame sin and hope that you can please give me the input to become good like you. I really hope to stick around here and gain a large post count so I can fully become a man like you.
The point VestCunt was making was that you'd buy that lot even if you had no use for any of it. You'd have bought it to resell (or trade for cash equivalent) for three to five times what you paid, which isn't all that different than any other reseller. Maybe you don't try to gouge for ridiculous prices, but that doesn't negate the fact that you're a reseller and that for every item you buy to flip, you're removing the opportunity for a real gamer to get it in the wild.

Believed me, I understand that point. The counterpoint I am trying to make is that, this is NOT the case 95% of the time. For instance, most times when Items are purchased at a garage sale, craiglist or a thrift store, it is normally in a bundle. I buy bundles that have at least one item I want. What the hell do I do with the rest of the crap I don't want or need.? There is 5% of the time I see a quality item that I do not need but, I know has value and buy it. When I do this, I mainly am looking to use it to trade for something I don't have. For instance, I once bought a single loose copy of Ocarina of Time and traded it for 3 common NES titles I didn't own. Value wise, I was the loser. I paid $5 for the Zelda and received about $7.00 in value for the common NES games. Why wouldn't I just go buy the common NES titles? The answer is that although they are considered common, they are not usually found in my area (game market around here is getting dry in resale shops). So I traded a game with a retail value of about $30.00 and got games with a retail value of about $7.00. I don't see how this should be frowned upon. Isn't this part of collecting? If I can't trade something off or sell it on craigslist for cheap then I will try to sell on eBay. I don't sell a lot on eBay because I absolutely hate packaging and sending stuff. However, this is still a necessary evil when trading cross country.
My admission to this came to light in the N64 thread because that seems to be what pops up around here the most. There might be one game or accessory I'm interested in so I buy the bundle. I may play that item and decide I don't want to keep it. So what? Just give it all away?
Desh, I'm not taking sides, but it fundamentally* comes down to this:
Selling/buying/trading can corrupt the thing we love—video games. It always has been this way.
So, it becomes a matter of ethics...how will someone act in a given situation ? what are his/her motivations?
WHEN IS ENOUGH, ENOUGH?!
...most folks "play this game" (acquiring video game objects, AKA "collecting") and never really question (or are too lazy to resist) the whole POKEMON + CAPITALISM angle.
As you said, it just "makes sense" to get rid of bundle leftovers, but you already rationalized buying the bundle in the first place.
NO BUNDLE, NO HASSLE.
...when folks talk about "grabbing trade bait" and "snagging a good deal" and "sucking my left one"...well, it reveals the ugly, non-game-playing side of video games.
PLEASE NOTE:
Vestcunt, myself...we are never going to be happy. :pcgs:
Also, I wish I had more stuff, too, but I just don't have $$$/time to acquire stuff, so I'm not immune. I wouldn't be wasting my precious time with bundles, but I understand why folks do it. The problem, of course, is once you start getting caught in the cycle of commerce/trade/profit/commerce/Pokemon/trade bait/net gain/net loss/checklist/I've-been-looking-for-this-for-a-long-time/etc.—well, you are caught in it.
* No, it doesn't! since I didn't read a damn thing either of you have written. I just regurgitated some stuff. Thank you. :pcgs:

Couldn't one look at it as preventing a big-time gouger from getting hands on it? It may still to go to a real gamer, perhaps for several times less $.
From what I've seen of Desh in his posts and actions, he's proven himself not to be a dirty gouger/flipper IMO. And I'm not just saying that because he gave me a Turbo Play and was a winner in my art contest! Anywho, i'mma sit this one out and munch on my popcorn happily from the sidelines.
Null, I tried making this point but was then regarded as a self proclaimed savior, saving the game market from higher prices.

That argument applies to anyone: Desh buys something at $5 to flip for $10, saying at least he's not Fred who'd flip it for $15; if Fred gets there first, he'll say at least I'm not George who'd flip it for $20; etc. There's always someone greedier, but the fact remains that when any one of these guys gets something, it means the guy that wants it just to play will have to pay more to buy it.

I wouldn't say he's a dirty gouger, but there's no denying he's a flipper; he's said flat out that he funds his gaming habit almost entirely on flipping.
Quote from: Desh on 08/21/2014, 11:12 AMThe counterpoint I am trying to make is that this is NOT the case 95% of the time.
Is that because most stuff sold at garage sales and on craiglist is either in bundles or if single is already too expensive to flip without resorting to gouge jobs? Don't pat yourself on the back too hard.

You have offended no one (except NecroPhile). I was only offended by vestcunt bringing my integrity into question. I'm not someone who tries to advertise "helping out" but, I just think of all of the times I have given stuff away to people or given someone something to complete their collection with no strings attached. I hoped that they would do the same and pay it forward.
As far as your comment Esteban, I have a problem. It's an addiction. I am addicted to buying and playing video games. The first step in recovery is to admit the problem. I admit the problem but I just can't say no. For instance, if I wanted a spare N64 controller I could go to a shop and spend $12.00 on one. Or I can find an N64 bundle for $20.00 that includes am extra controller. I then have extra items I may try or trade. That's part of the fun.
I'd like to continue all my arguments in here as well....
The fact of the matter is that the PCE, or the Turbo Grafx 16 as you guys State side may remember it being called, is not a true 16-Bit machine and is in fact 8-Bit so it can't possibly compete with the likes of a Sega Genesis or a Super Nintendo which in essence are true 16-Bit machines. Don't even get me started on multi-plane scrolling.

'Tis Fighting Street. No rules (almost) and no moderation.
I mean it is a competent 8-Bit machine, certainly the best 8-Bit home console made in terms of power and color, it just isn't quite 16BIT, and as we know 16BIT's is 8Bits more, nearly twice the power and the strength. This is why most games look 8BIT albeit very colorful and very little animation. To the untrained eye it looks like a massive leap from the NES/SMS era as well it can put up well over 400 colors Vs the NES's measly 24 on screen but once you actually kick in some true 16BIT power the 8Bitness shows within the Turbo Grafx 16.
And for my closing arguments? Earthworm Jim, thank you.
Standard evo regurgitation trolling. *yawn*

I agree with you100%. If it wasn't for at least one item I wanted mixed in with the GameCube stuff I probably would not have bought it.
I mean Earthworm Jim!!!! Did you even see how amazing it is? The animation alone would melt the 8BIT Processor and then throw in epic chip tunes and fast paced 16BIT action and it's over, no contest. I agree that 8-Bit style games would work better one the TG16 than Tru 16BIT machines as it has an 8Bit processor Vs asking a tru 16BIT machine to slow down so much to handle a lesser game.
This thread got interesting... Heh.
Also the 8BIT TG16 only came with a 2 button controller because at the time an 8BIT processor could only handle a D-Pad and two buttons. NEC tried to mask this issue by including turbo switches but we pretty much knew what was going on. Later games finally bowed to the 6 Button controller for the Japanese release Street Fighter 2 but it cause massive slow down. To get around this slowdown use a typical 2 button controller but then fighting is really hampered by so few buttons.
I still like the system, very colorful and all but decidedly 8-Bit.
8BIT :-({|=

Wings by definition are Aerodynamic. They aid in lift or downforce. What they can't do however is increase the Bitness of a processor although that didn't stop NEC from trying with the PCE shuttle. My god Nulltard you have got a LOT of time on your hands, how homoerotic. You practice often painting men in the nude?

I don't mind people buying lots and then selling them, but it infuriates me if there isn't a leniency toward them. I always sell below ebay prices, because I don't do this for a profit. I don't want to lose money, but I certainly don't fund my video game habit from flipping. Yeah, the temptation is there, but part of not being a scumbag is not giving in to said temptations. And justifying it by saying you sometimes give things away for free, well, you have to measure it as a whole. Does the few items you give away balance out the profit you earned by flipping? Doesn't it make you more ethical if you sell cheap and also give away out of charity?
At the end of the day, though, I think you're upset because there's a kernel of truth in VestCunt's statements, so you need to defend yourself to yourself more than strangers.

Not necessarily. You yourself mentioned reselling things at below eBay prices. I previously stated that when I sell my asking price is whatever price charting says divided in half. That would be the same thing. Yes, 80% of what I buy has come from money saved from items I've sold over time. With a wife and 2 (almost 3) kids there's no other way I could even collect games except maybe one or two every once in awhile.
I only got my panties in a bunch because vestcunt called out my integrity and all that. That's the only thing that pissed me off and one thing lead to another.

HELL NO!
Ballistix sux, the game mechanics are questionable to begin with and horribly executed. Horrible control.
Earnest Evans is retarded and sux, a sad, broken game that plays like a tutorial of what NOT to do when developing/releasing a game. Horrible control is just one of many flaws.
Blodia is a simple, satisfying puzzler, controls fine, with nice tunes and (sadly) lackluster graphics.
