Title: eBay shaming
Post by: pixeljunkie on 08/21/2014, 07:52 PM
I thought it might be fun to link to ridiculous eBay auctions and find out if they belong to any members here - then SHAME them horribly.

The idea came from seeing this auction:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/PC-TURBO-GRAFX-DUO-SYSTEM-PLAYS-US-amp-JAPAN-HU-CARDS-C-GAMES-ALL-IN-ONE-SYSTEM-/321497716072?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/PC-TURBO-GRAFX-DUO-SYSTEM-PLAYS-US-amp-JAPAN-HU-CARDS-C-GAMES-ALL-IN-ONE-SYSTEM-/321497716072?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276)

Is this someone here?

Seems unnecessary as the Turbo Gouging thread serves that purpose as well when someone is caught. If it occurred frequently enough then I suppose it might be more justified to have a thread like this where a collection of them is kept.

I think it would be rather fun to take an insaine eBay sale like that and have the users of the forum bombard them with offers that would better reflect the true cost of merchandise.

Ah, that's clever, so you can't get knocked off of eBay by just selling blank CD-Rs with nice labeling on them as the buyer will handle the actual burning. He sure charges like a bootlegger at $15 though... Heh.

you guys do realize that you just offended 69% of the active posters and/or oldtimers here, right?

keep an eye on your sixes.
I think that 69% of the active posters may be kind of stuck in the past so far as pricing. And/or tightwads.

Honestly though, that's why I said this in here. I've wanted to to some degree in the main forum thread already but I am neither into arguing nor pissing contests, I'm not going to threadcrap. Even if I was an old timer I wouldn't do that. But I figure in here I can safely vent and say fuck and poop, etc.

No joke, not trying to be hard on PCE forums, I like it here....this is by far the roughest place ever I've seen when people are judging other people's "deals". The Atari guys are WAY nicer. LOL.

What bugs me is when someone contributes *nothing* to the community except posts bitching about prices. NecroPhile, you Sparky, BlackTiger, a bunch of others all bitch about prices and it doesn't bug me because you actually contribute things of value. cyloaiza up there? Yeah, doubt that, but here's the real solution to your problem with prices:

1) Get an everdrive
2) Get a stack of CDRs
3) Get fucked

Unless, you know, you don't really care just about playing the games. But that would make you a collectard and a hypocrite.

Nulltard, oh, I dunno, it's not like I spend a ton of time at AtariAge, where I'm clearly not a subscriber, neither have I played a ton of Missile Command (http://atariage.com/forums/topic/216109-atari-2600-game-you-play-the-most-of-all-time/?p=3117048) or a shit ton (http://atariage.com/forums/topic/231031-favorite-2600-third-party-developer/?hl=%2B2600#entry3097532) of H.E.R.O. (http://atariage.com/forums/topic/230610-what-2600-games-are-you-playing-right-now/?hl=%2B2600#entry3090425), and I can't even remember the last time I played Millipede on the 2600 (http://atariage.com/forums/topic/227491-youre-trapped-in-the-last-2600-game-world-you-played-can-you-survive/?hl=%2B2600#entry3028749). I most certainly did not just buy Oystron and Blinky Goes Up from the AtariAge store or other homebrewers, nor did I just preorder Sharknado (http://atariage.com/forums/topic/231781-sharknado-atari-2600-limited-edition/?p=3112948) (which looks like a blast to play).

Truth be told, I love the 2600. I don't have time for RPGs anymore, and with my busy schedule, pick up and play 2600 games are perfect. HERO 2600 is just perfect, and the homebrew people are releasing (granted I only have been able to acquire 3 for the 2600 so far) are really superb. But even there I actively avoid getting boxes (http://atariage.com/forums/topic/224915-seaweed-assault/#entry2985082) where I can - it's just cardboard, no big deal to me. Give me the cart so that I can play and a manual so I can read how to do so. I'll let others worry about making their shelves look nice.

Top 10 2600 games imo (http://atariage.com/forums/topic/62626-top-100-2600-games-of-all-time/?p=3114341) (not including homebrew)

1. H.E.R.O.
2. River Raid
3. Pitfall II
4. Yar's Revenge
5. Missile Command
6. Pitfall!
7. Solar Fox
8. Demon Attack
9. Moon Patrol
10. Phoenix

1-8 is pretty secure, but plenty could have replaced 9 and 10 with a half dozen other games that vie for my favor every time I play it.

One last thing, the only reason the Turbo isn't higher is because it's way too expensive for me to justify buying for. I'll play burned games (my Saturn and PS1 are chipped, my Dreamcast is revision 1, and I was intent on playing Turbo CD games too until this happened (https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=17797.0)), but with all the games I own, I find little need to do so. Hopefully, people will stop feeling the need to snap up games at crazy prices and it'll be cheaper. I'll start buying in earnest then. Until then, I'll get my spare pickups from good-priced forum posts.

Edit: Typo.

Sure. But I really ought not to sell any, because any could be chosen if I'm up for it. Kind of the point of having a library of video games.

I will say that some of newer stuff (PS2, Xbox) have remained dormant for far too long, but my wife plays it enough for me to keep it, so there's that, too. The games/consoles that saw virtually no play from me I've sold (most recently in the process of selling a Sega CD and 32X).

I find it silly to defend myself against you, though. Do you own any games at all? Do you play them all regularly? None that you wanted to get to, but just haven't had the time/inclination for that one title?

Quote from: guest on 11/21/2014, 05:42 AMMost of my games are shelf warmers as it would be impossible to play them all every day. They've all gotten some love at some point, except for the ones that are in the "do queue" for some intimate time with my joystick.

However, this is fighting street. So while I would be a hypocrite to fault o.puwanamic for having a ton of shelf nuggets, I would be remiss to not take some pot shot at his taste in games.

2600... c'mon! I always thought those atari fan sites were satirical gag sites like TheOnion.com or FoxNews.com. But I guess people are into stuff like cakefarts so maybe im wrong.

p.s. lochlan sits on a shelf basically all the time.
I like the 2600 and still play a bunch of games. Suck it.

What, no love for Megamania ? That and River Raid started my love for shooters. I liked that Pitfall II BITD also, but I really couldn't force myself to go back and play a console so inferior after the spoiling of modern consoles... Gotta draw the line at 4 bit. Very tough even for 8-to-16 bit.

Oh, yeah, I love Megamania, but I just don't know if it's top 10. It's close though, top 20.

See, I had the opposite reaction. I've always been behind the curve a bit, mostly out of poverty, but recently just out of boredom with the stuff. I don't like Skyrim (and put the hours into it to prove I gave it a fair shake) or Assassin's Creed, find stuff like Last of Us boring as shit, unimpressed with first person shooters in general. I have a Steam account, but fuck the cut scenes, which are now the bulk of the games, fuck the "press X to do general action" pussy games. That's not gaming, that's mind numbing dumbfuckery with good graphics. I want a real game. I want to put sweat, blood, and tears into getting a high score. I want my shooters to kick my ass, not allow me to steamroll AI, not make it easy for me to kick their ass. I want my platformers to require precision and practice, not merely to babywalk me through it.

How you Turbolovers and OBEYers can like modern crap? No idea. When it comes to putting in the work in Military Madness or brainless potion making, smelting iron, hitting the same button over and over again in Skyrim, I'd take the former every time.

I love this post. I'm sure you offended some folks who enjoy modern games.

I'm not completely innocent, however. I actually love a lot of iPhone/iPad games. Ha! There are many games that are perfect with touch controls.

Maybe I'll catch up to PS2 games one of these years (probably), but I've been behind the curve for a long time. I'm still fully exploring all the great games prior to PS1.

I agree that my heart definitely belongs to the 8/16 era...and maybe a splash of Saturn and Dreamcast, however, I did just recently play through Dishonored and that game was excellent; I highly recommend it.

Hah, 6 month payment plans on eBay ? Haven't seen that before, and if the seller sends the item with the first payment, what's to enforce the buyer continuing the 5 payments after ? The threat of a negative feedback response ?

Seems Nulltard linked another one with payment plan option - it looks like it's connected to Paypal Credit and I bet it simply pays the seller in full and does the monthly charges to your account should you activate the feature and use it.

Pretty sure there's a credit check to stop the shady peoples from taking advantage of things.

I agree!  I mostly only play 8 and 16 bit.  I sprinkle some PS2 era stuff in too (Resident Evil, Metal Gear and racing sims mostly.  Newer gen stuff a la 360 I really only due Forza.

As far as Elder Scrolls games go I really liked Morrowind and have done everything possible in Oblivion.  I could NOT get into Skyrim.  I also really loved Fallout 3.  A couple under appreciated games that are just good fun and require some strategy when playing the "campaign" are Blitz the League and Blitz the League 2.  Forget about "real" football games like Madden etc.
