Title: Sealed Dungeon Explorer
Post by: dallaspattern on 09/17/2014, 01:15 PM
There's a vintage game place down the street that's got one for $100. If anyone wants it, I can score it for you.

Dallas,
Thanks for the offer to the forum but the whole sealed-is-worth-more concept doesn't do well here.  Again, thank you for offering to help someone acquire a game though.

haha, i believe we're getting a divorce now? not sure.

i went in again and the thing's brand new. haven't seen something in that condition locally for a while. kinda neat. i'm kinda temped to buy it just so i can experience the joy of tearing into a fresh tg box one more time. too bad it's DE, and not something i've never played before.

luckily I was able to find some sealed sports games at my local game stores for cheap.

opening a turbo game for the first time, such a good feeling.

I picked up my dungeon explorer with jewel case, manual, and no sleeve cover for the hu card for 20 bucks. I think 100 is a bit much for it

good price. but for sealed, 100 may be a tad bit high but then again who knows?

$100 for a sealed common game is ludicrous. What's stopping people from repacking a used copy with shrink wrap?

I have worried about this for a long time, actually.  I wouldn't pay $100, but if it looked in reasonably good condition anyway, I would maybe buy it around $40.  I used to own Dungeon Explorer, it's one of the games that really made me embarrassed of the TG-16 cover art.  Of course now it has it's nostalgic charms but as a kid...

Worse yet though on a related note, I'm worried about people making Bootleg NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. cartridges, with say like a flash rom on the inside holding the game.  Again, I won't spend a lot on most games so its probably not an issue, but I do wonder who is getting ripped off out there.  I guess that would be damn hard to do with a TG-16 / PCE hu-card, since you can't swap out the innards so easily.

I once described Dungeon Explorer's cover as "suitable for a coffee shop" because it is so bland.

It's not the worst, but it is bland, and for such a great game, it deserved an extra something (even a really kool title/logo art would have helped improve that coverart).

Yeah, agreed.  Shame!  One of the great memorable soundtracks from the TG-16 library for me, and a heck of a lot fun.  I tried to get two friends to play it with me recently (all in our 30's now) and it didn't go over too well mostly because I thought I remembered that you could rez dead party members at an inn or something but I guess you had to do it all in one go.  They both died and I was the only survivor after the first stage, and they couldn't continue so we just stopped.  I beat DE back in the day, I guess it was more of an accomplishment than I thought!
