I was looking around to see if there are any reviews of the new AVGN movie and saw this review from RetroGamer3, he absolutely trashes the movie

I haven't watched any RetroGamer3 videos in years, I vaguely recall he was a big AVGN fan.
I quickly scanned his old videos and found this video.

ET's atari being the worst game ever is like saying Plan 9 from Outer Space is the worst movie ever. Which is not far from the truth but their awfulness gets hyped too goddamn much.
I can't see a movie based on "LOL ET IS SHIT" being good, but I'll still give a try to the AVGN movie someday.
ET on the 2600 wasn't a bad game, it was just a mess. Falling in pits got old after a while. I don't think I ever beat it. "Haunted House", on the other hand, I eventually defeated.
ET was a terrible game, but I would rather play that game than watch this movie again. It is a complete drag of a flick. I was so disappointed...
I liked the big, stupid monster thing, Darth WhateverTheFuck. Overall, though, I wanted more from that movie. Still it felt almost worth the $5 I spent to rent it from Vimeo.
Hoping that the next flick James does is an awesome horror themed one.

The thing with those pits is that they're oddly done. You fall down them if an edge of your guy touches them instead of if you actually go over them. There is actually a rom hacked version of this that has been updated to fix a lot of the "bugs" that exist in the game.
Haven't seen the movie, but from the few previews of his I watched, I assumed the focus was on doing lots of old-school practical effects, the E.T. attachment was just there for the sake of all AVGN works needing to be linked to a game of some kind.

I can't picture you spending $5 on non obey things.

lol
I really spent an old fashioned fiver on a 24hr rental of this flick, I'd been looking forward to it for what seemed like forever.
I will admit that before doing so I kept thinking "Now, do I really wanna use this $5 for a movie I can only watch for one whole day and then it goes poof? Hmmm...could use it towards finding a manual for Deep Blue instead...hmmm."
I haven't watched the whole thing. I'll reserve judgement until I see the end, but there were a few jokes that I would have edited out, absolutely.

Funny enough the nostalgia critic like it though he did sum it up it's for the fans.

I guess you have approach this movie with absolute 0 expectations, other than utterly trash non-stop..lol
I think this is proof why he is "best" as a youtube show typically running 12 minutes per video.
Some people despite desire to be more really are just one note.
The character of the nerd is unappealing. James as himself is much more engaging and interesting.
Agreed.
The problem is when he tries to get too cinematic in his reviews he takes the focus away from what he does well which is critique games in a humorous manner and it emphasizes what he does poorly, which is over the top special effects and people in costumes swearing and using gross-out humor.
I'm didn't have high expectations for the AVGN movie in the first place as while I think James is a very talented film critic, I think he's not quite as good of a comedian or film-maker based on the AVGN /Board James/ You Know What's BS shorts.
I'm one of the original AVGN Movie supporters. James does know his stuff, and the best part is that he works really hard on his movie-making passions. I can't wait for the Movie to be released on DVD/Blu-ray. I will be buying a few copies to send to my friends as an introductory gift.
The premiere in theaters looked fantastic. I'm really happy that James and crew got a large following. He deserves the tremendous applause for a job well done.
I am disappoint. Probably still watch it though.

Just watched this response to the nostalgia critic review

I...I just can't make myself watch the rest of this.
I love James and AVGN, but the first 45 minutes just didn't hook me at all.
AVGN took the part of the movie that is just the actual game review and put it on his site to watch for free. Meaning you can skip the whole movie thing and just see the Atari game itself.

Just watched this. If it's any indication of the greater movie...I am glad I missed it. Wow.
I expected too much out of this movie. I barely made it through the entire flick. For the last hour or so I was thinking "I hope this ends soon" and it just kept going and going *ugh*. I enjoy a lot of James' work. Some of his documentaries I have watched multiple times. I am glad he pulled it off and fulfilled his dream, but this movie I won't watch again.
With all of the lackluster responses to this film, I am kinda curious to see it (I had only a *slight* interest before).
One of these years...
I've only seen the ET review yet. The problem for me was: Once you could see the Nerd speaking to the seen audience, it felt staged. The Nerd character feels more natural and "real" if he's talking to the viewer behind the 4th wall himself like he does in regular reviews.
I like his reviews. I do not like the ET one and probably won't like the rest of the movie as well.
This thread made me remember this movie exists and now unfortunately I will have to watch it.
I went to the guy's site and I don't see a DVD... considering he has original film reels he watches occasionally, it is odd the movie is only available digitally. Am I missing the DVD somewhere?

It's being worked on. Probably be out Nov. or Dec.
The movie was a waste of time. His reviews on the other hand, very funny
It's screening this Friday right before the Portland Retro Gaming Expo kicks off.
I might go see it anyway ._.
I was sort of turned off by the choice of characters.
The hipster-type girl in particular.
It was ok I guess, had its moments.
Not was I was expecting, although I'm not sure what I was expecting after all these years.
The ET review was fair in terms of an ET review but not much in terms of an AVGN review.
On a side note, I'm surprised the ET price didn't spike up.

Joe and Dave could have done a much better movie than this. Not impressed.

But which one would be the pizza delivery guy? I bet Joe would have been the lonely house wife.
