Hello,

I recently rescued a TG16 and a couple of controllers from a guy who was moving away.  The console itself works perfectly.  However, the two controllers are missing the 8 pin DIN metal barrels that would be used to connect to the console.  I did a search on here to see if I could find anything repair related but could not.

I believe that all I would need is an 8-pin male DIN coupler and I could be in buisness.  Can anyone confirm this, or provide some advice?

you can find 8-pin DIN male connectors on ebay for a dollar shipped from china.  i have used them in the past and they are fine.

here's another solution that i think is more practical.  find a 6-9 cable with a male 8-DIN connector on ebay, cut off one end and solder it to the PCB on the controller.  its easier to do than soldering to the connector alone and you have a much longer cable than the stock 3 footer.

This!  I did this to a PCE DUO controller because of a broken connector.  Obviously PCE and TG connectors are different but it's nice to be more than 10" away from the console when playing.

I have a turbo controller in the same situation. Is there a difference in the pce and the turbo controller other than the connector? I'd like to turn by turbo controller into a one for me duo-r.

It's no help for redcat, but it should work for zombie: I bought one of these replacement cables (http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Quality-8-pin-controller-cable-for-pc-engine-controller-pad-/111556817484?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19f94df24c), which is kinda pricey for just a cable but it works fine and I'm too dumb to solder in a generic cable.  Most controllers have that same internal connector, but not all, so check inside yours before ordering.

Well, since I have two controllers in the same state, I will likely give this a try in the next few weeks.

Well, since I have two controllers in the same state, I will likely give this a try in the next few weeks.

if you can find a super long male-to-male (like 15-18 feet), you could cut it in half and use it for both controllers... just a thought

I have to double check.  The Turbo controller is larger than the PC Engine variants.  I'm pretty sure the circuit boards are identical but the Turbo board might be slightly bigger... I don't remember.  I can tell you for sure the connectors on the board themselves are identical.  This makes swapping cords from PCE style to TG style very easy.

You can swap the cables between a TG16 pad and a PCE pad just fine. I used a tg16 pad on my duo for years that way.

Thanks NecroPhile, I ordered one of these cables. I wished they were longer but its hard argue with plug and play.

Got my cable in and made the swap everything worked great.

the original TG16 cable is hard to solder to
the standard connectors work well
i have a few i used the cables from PS2 controllers and the ebay connectors
