I would've liked to have known who he had bought the game from actually, just for the record. Was it that reseller piece of shit wmac ? And no, I doubt he'll ever return from the complete sell off of his collection (2nd time). We can only hope he never tries for a 3rd time to buy the whole NEC library again to feed his bizarre ideas for personal "challenges."

That locked thread is pretty much why I prefer buying and selling on ebay.  I've had some great transactions here in the past, but the pressure to "DON'T BE AN EBAY SCUM" has gotten silly.  Yeah, 600 for Terraforming is madness, but what about $300?  $200?  When does it become socially acceptable?  And is social acceptability really that important when trying to recoup a loss?  I don't think so.  I say sell it on ebay for as much as you can get.  If the dude can get 600 (and thus incur "only" a $100 loss) then more power to him.

Any PCEFX'er who seriously wanted the game but thought it was overpriced would just PM with their offer.

Thank god this thread is in Fighting Street:

Are you mental? Recoup a loss? If you overpaid, that means YOU over paid and it's no ones fault but your own, cause they sure as hell didn't force you to pay them. Don't even try to complain about how people can't sell their "R@res" for outrageous prices here with fabricated pity stories or oh i'm too fucking stupid to check prices of current items so i just over payed a "member" here bullshit.

You definitely should not be allowed to sell on here with your statement, "...the pressure to "DON'T BE AN EBAY SCUM" has gotten silly..." This tells everyone you have no ethics. You then further that by stating "..And is social acceptability really that important when trying to recoup a loss?.." So your saying,of course let's fuck everyone else cause i got fucked right? Your such a piece of shit scumbag with that mentality. You have actually lowered everyone's IQ that has read your post and should apologize for all the feces you have just spewed forth onto our screens.

Let's make this real simple:
Don't be an ebay gouger, respect that people work hard for their money and don't deserve to be shafted by some fucktard who "needs to recoup their loss" and taaafuckingdaaa it's super easy to sell and buy here without any issues.

Ok this is just a curious post for everyone here.

In your opinion and to the dollar, would you say would be the highest price that Madboom could have listed this and you would be the acceptable forum price.
I'm going to go with $460 and it would have sold really fast. Nobody would be upset but you'd still get the "I can't believe its so high these days" post

It was probably $10 in a bargain bin someplace at one point. So i would say $11 is gouging.

Oh, I see how you do things.

1. Person lists item at a price with minimal comment
2. You tell them that they're crazy for listing it at that price
3. Person explains why they set the price, in an effort to disprove craziness
4. You rip on the person for trying to elicit pity (when in fact, they were just responding specifically to you)

That's a beautiful troll job, truly.

Troll.

As for the rest of what you said, no one is forced to buy things.  No one is getting "fucked" when someone lists an item at PCEFX with a pricetag that you don't like.  You could just not buy it.  Or, you know, PM the person with what you consider to be a realistic offer.*

* I understand the argument about how the practice of gouging on eBay spurs price inflation.  This is not eBay.  This is essentially a closed environment -- high prices are easy to ignore.

PS - Come up with your own material next time.  Please don't ruin Billy Madison by ripping off its jokes.

I think you miss the point of why we have "our own little place" here. However pathetic it may sound, we at least attempt to have a community that is not based solely on "maximizing profit"...it evolved organically, and it is certainly an interesting experiment.

WHY SHOULD WE SIMPLY REPLICATE EBAY? WHY SHOULD WE REPLICATE "maximum profit, always" WHEN "healthy profit without being a douchebag" IS POSSIBLE?

If a person is not happy with the norms that we have developed here, they are not forced to buy or sell here.

It really is that simple.

If folks want to sell here, they should respect the norms here. It is that simple. If a seller has a problem  with that, they will be much happier selling elsewhere.

More importantly, you overstate the power we actually have when it comes to buying/selling. We really don't have much, if any, power over any transactions. We can only discuss stuff that has "gone public"...there are many, many deals (private or not) that transpire WITHOUT folks posting a word about it. Some of them might be overpriced, some might be underpriced.

Also, since I know you might find this interesting:

I think many folks have an overly simplistic understanding of how community and commerce interact with each other. Too many people isolate the buying/selling as a transaction that occurs in a vacuum. This approach is acceptable for eBay: random sellers seek to maximize profit from random buyers. Sterile. Formulaic. Textbook.

But, once you add "community" to the transaction, well, we get the situation that you are complaining about. You find the "community norms" an unwelcome layer of grief/annoyance. The "community norms", in your eyes, add friction to the transaction.

It's perfectly fine for you to feel this way. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Because the very same "community rules" that irk you, well...they comfort some of us.

That's it. :)

Sorry for rambling. My son is running around turning on all the lights (2:00-5:00 AM), despite all my attempts to convince him that he should let me go back to sleep.

Esteban, I didn't say anything about replicating eBay or maximizing profit.  Aside from the first sentence of your post, I agree with everything that you said.  I'm not sure we agree on the sentiments underneath the words, though.

QuoteIf folks want to sell here, they should respect the norms here.
I agree.  Set fair prices, be honest about condition, don't try to rip people off.  No disagreement there.  People didn't like the $600 price and they said so.  That part is fine.  So the seller explained why he set such a high price -- i.e. why he perceived the price as being "fair".  That part is fine too.   And then the dude got yelled at even more (this is where I start to roll my eyes).  And when he politely bowed out, a new thread was opened in Fighting Street to grouse about it!  And with all the grousing, still no idea what a "fair" price for the game should be.

QuoteIf a seller has a problem  with that, they will be much happier selling elsewhere.
I agree here too.  What I'm assuming we disagree on is whether or not the guy should be mocked.  (Do we disagree about that?)  In other words -- would he be able to avoid public shaming if he took it to ebay instead?  Or would someone point it out in the ebay gouging thread and say "I BET THAT EBAY SELLER IS MADBOOM"?

So to go back to the question that was asked before: if $600 is unacceptable and outside the PCEFX norms, what is the socially acceptable price for Terraforming?

I don't really give a fuck about the price.  It's more that he argued that he wasn't asking ebay prices and was in fact doing us a favor by taking a loss, and that's pure horseshit.

Quote from: Nulltard on 02/15/2015, 11:34 PMif boom paid 700 and is asking 600, that is undercutting ebay by an amount consistent with what many respected members  have sold stuff for on these boards.  It is still an inflated price, sure, but not what I'd call a gouge considering the $600 bin on ebay doesnt have the back case art.
After factoring in paypal fees and missed ebay bucks, madbooms copy would end up costing $36 more than a copy that is presumably already overpriced (it's unsold anyway).  That sounds to me like he was indeed shooting for ebay prices while avoiding their fees and hoop jumping, which is the claim that got him all worked up to begin with.

The one on eBay for $600 doesn't have the back case art. So, its not equivalent.

It's also $36 less.  If you want to argue that that insert is worth hundreds, knock yourself out.

By the way, the last two that actually sold went for $200 and $135.

The $135 you quote is for the manual and a FAKE back insert.

... I'm not saying its worth $900. I'm not saying its worth $200 because someone sniped it.

If someone is paying $600 for a game, I doubt they consider the "back art" only worth $36. Yes, they want to pay $564 for the CD and Manual, but the Back art? Fuck that shit, only worth $36.

By necromancer breakdown:

CD + Manual: 94% of price
Back Insert: 6%

YAY MATH.

Post by: Nazi NecroPhile on 02/16/2015, 12:43 PM
That's the whole thing, genius, nobody is PAYING $600 for that copy; apparently it's not worth that much, else it would've sold already.  It's sitting there being relisted, whereas the one for $135 actually SOLD for that amount after real people bid on it.

If the game without the insert is worth $135 and the complete game is worth $600, then by DarkKobold's breakdown:

CD + Manual: 22% of price
Back Insert: 78%

YAY MATH indeed.

By the way, that $900 copy was immediately relisted for the same price.  It obviously didn't actually sell at that price.

No, moron. There was NO CD with the $135 copy. Or real back insert. It was $135 just for the fucking manual. Fucking hell, is it that hard to actually read the link? Or notice there was an auction that went for $624? Here is the real math, based on that link.

Manual: 22% of price
CD+Back Insert: 78%

Once again, yay math for those that bother to fucking pay attention.

Also, the $600 copy on eBay. It doesn't matter if it sold or not, or what its worth. YOU called it equivalent to madbooms copy, which makes him an evil fee-avoiding asshole, to the tune of $36.  They weren't equal. Your argument doesn't tread water.

If some nimrod pays $600 that is their own mindless fault.  It is obviously going to be a reseller.  No real gamer is going to pay that shit.  I don't know why this ruffles so many feathers, even if it is ebay prices here.  It boils down to some stupid shit paying an inflated price.  Prices are all over the map now even for just one  game.  It's hard to make sure you're not paying ebay prices even here.  If someone says "Hey it's only $600!  I'll buy it and flip it down the road for$ 999.99 after I realize the mistake I made." who cares.  Madboom put it up for the ridiculous price he paid and some moron bought it for that.  How many here were going to buy it even if it was say...$400?

I know most of you think what madboobs did was fake or bullshit and I don't give two shits who does, they sit nicely in my collection and that's all that matters to me.

I guess life is funny that way....Ok guys have at it!!  Oh! you new fucks who have no idea who anyone even remotely is, or have had deals and trades with boobs keep your fucking pole smoker holes shut.

Who knows.  Ninja just can't pass up a chance to tell us that he doesn't care what we think, but we can all fuck off for thinking the wrong things.

Ninja has taken dick riding to a new level. No one cares what you have. If you feel the need to prove yourself to people on a message board you lead a sad existence.

You see, boobs here, he wanted me to offer up my copy of MC here because of the find he had. At first I was all like ok man that would be cool, I was thinking make it for sale but only to the elder members here for maybe a few hundred bux, Boobs was like that would be cool. After being shit on myself,...for asking a question and then seeing tbhis!!!! HAHAHA yeah right, fuck that shit, I would rather give it to my 15 year old son and have him wipe his ass with it, manual and all. Way to go!!!

To the rest, enjoy the rants and raves to come.
I am 15, also probably your son, as my mother said she met/humped you after a long night of passionate dumpster diving behind EB Games stores and McDonalds restaurants.

Gibe me your Ch-ch-chase, daddy-papa-man?

1) Anyone who pays that much for a game is a retard
2) If you are discussing selling a game at "a loss", you're a dick.  It means you didn't play the game and get any value out of it.   If i buy a game for 60$, play it alot, and then sell it for 30$, I don't consider it a loss.  I consider it getting 30$ after playing a game to hell and deciding I don't want it.
3) EmeraldRocker is ok to buy from.  I bought Ruin or Linda3 or something from him awhile ago I think.

I believe Madboobs has at least a dozen ID's that he logs in with and posts.  I am willing to bet any rare game he is listing is being purchased by his other ID's in his attept to prove to everyone here that the prices are increasing on this forum as well and the Bay of shite.

You still keep your shitty troll account here handy to continue the same hounding/harassment you began on this forum when you started with NecroPhile, VestCunt, and CrackTiger, on to Mike/etc. Same ole fucking same ole fucking same ole. The vast majority of your post count here is nothing but grudge wars with the 3 mentioned: Professor, me and who next I wonder. Minus all the grudge wars you'd be down to <100 posts I suspect.

We need a Worst PCEFX Member thread with you at the top of the fucking list! And yes, waiting around to fuck with NecroPhile, and in this case catching him tripping up after starting on him in the first place is something you live for in that perpetual "I WILL have my revenge, NecroPhile!!!
