We're going to be there May 14-17. Which of you dipshits lives around O'Hairy airport?
I want to touch all of you.
There goes the neighborhood.
Quote from: JoshTurboTrollX-16 on 04/02/2015, 11:19 AMThere goes the neighborhood.
Yeah, I'm going to be coming all over it.
There is some wanged up anime convention there. I'm only going for the music concert, and staying to laugh at the shitty cosplays.
Oh ACEN, I went to it for many years back when I lived in IL. I have heard it is quite an event now compared to the old days.

I could care less. Most anime conventions are crap because American anime fans are straight up retarded.
So it will be droves of weebtards that I want to hit.
but, Scandal is playing! Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhnhhbgdf
I'm sort of near O'hare. But since that's where you'll be, are you planning on going to Galloping Ghost? Pretty sure it's no more than a half hour from there.
HIDE YO WIFE AND HIDE YO KIDZ!
Hmm, I might be willing to come out. What are the details with this event like entry charge, etc ?

I don't know. We're probably taxi-ing to house of brues to see Babymetal on 14th, and then the Anime bullcrapshit is the next 3 days.
Galloping Ghost could be cool. Probably better than the retarded anime convention

You know what I like about high school girls? I keep getting older and they stay the same age. Yes they do.

THATS CAUSE YOU WERE DAZED AND CONFUSED
HURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
So they finally cut that ankle bracelet off, eh?

Not only that, I ruined my joke, I meant the late Paul Walker of Fast'n'Furious fame. He fancied 16 year old HS girls it turned out.

lol.
nah, I just only get the urge to move around if there's like, awesome things involved.
Japanese chicks playing vaguely 80s/early 90s rock music? yes.
game conventions full of overpriced crap, misinformed morons, and Neo Geo? pass.
:)
...but you're at the Cleveland show every year!
that's because it's 15 minutes from my house.
If it were much farther, I'd be too lazy to go. I generally only sell 1-3 copies of stuff and then blow the money on chinese food on the way home, lol.
It's 15 minutes from your house, yes, but it's also incredibly small. The modern day con is so fucking massive that all of CCG could fit into 1/8 of the amount of space used for bathrooms at a major thing like Acen.
I went to the first few Acens. It was a big deal at the time because the Midwest had never had an anime con that big before, big like the east cost stuff. I can't honestly handle new cons though. The terminally exhibitionist cosplay scum took over the entire scene. It's really sad. Anime cons pretty much suck now. Nobody wants to talk about newtype philosphy or Yamato deck plans, it's all cosplay and officially licensed stuff I could just watch at home.

Hey hey, it was at a bigger venue last time! It's gotten progressively bigger, but it's still small. I kind of like that. I don't think I could handle a larger scale "TurboGrafx know it all" crowd. There's always still one or two people every year that go HOW HARD IS IT TO PROGRAM TWO 8 BIT CPUS.

Yep. I pretty much hate anime conventions because some of the most unintelligent dumbshits are basically parading around in outfits, sometimes from shows they didn't watch, but liked the characters.
You see tits everywhere, and then sometimes see those girls complaining that people are staring. You're presenting cameltoe / cleavage. Of course we're staring.
Those high-end cosplay fuckers have ruined cosplaying. If you show up in some goofy outfit you slapped together for fun, you get ridiculed. It's all super professional/high end bullshit. It defeats the entire purpose of going just to have fun and screw around. Everyone's so uptight about their shitty outfits.
You also get the desperately trying to be weird weebtards that run around like a ninja, and the "omfg I am so desu" people that think they're experts on Japan despite never exiting Cleveland.
They're all eating Chinese takeout or gas station sushi, as if any of that is close to being authentic food.
Samurai Dan or whatever shows up to school us on the ancient arts of Bushido. As if random dumbass white dudes have much clue on that:
http://www.theknoxstudent.com/news/2012/10/10/samurai-v-s-ninja-performance-disappoints-organizers/ (http://www.theknoxstudent.com/news/2012/10/10/samurai-v-s-ninja-performance-disappoints-organizers/)
The one time I was at a local anime con, I slapped together a halfass Harlock outfit at the last minute.
I just took my toy Cosmo Dragoon and Gravity Saber, put on my usual clothes, and a Harlock tshirt I made myself years ago out of white paint and a black tshirt.
The
only person that recognized it was some 45 year old dude at the hotel for a jeweler convention. He told me the attitudes of the people at that con were terrible, and nothing like when he was at cons in the late 80s, enjoying himself.
It was depressing. I got mistaken for Squall from FFVIII. The only person I talked to besides him, was a vendor selling cool trinkets.
other than that, the entire vendor hall is always just "Hey, have any of you dumbfucks heard of Amazon/Ebay? Your prices suck"
They're a disappointing waste of time. Acen's organizers seem a bit slow, too. They are unorganized and make dumb news-post choices. They split the Scandal concert info onto TWO pages, and put the sale links on the second, harder to locate page. I almost missed the upgrade thing (you can pay 10$ to upgrade your seats at the concert or some shit)
Fortunately, the 50$ entry to Acen gets me into the Scandal concert for free, plus 10$ to upgrade. My other option was to fly farther (CA), and pay 60$ to see them. So, basically, the shitty Anime con is just a tacked on bonus while we run around the O'hare area, trying to not get shot.
It'll be great watching an entire convention of idiots waiting for Scandal to play the two songs that were theme songs for Bleach and whatever, and then blank out when every other song gets played.
I hope there's other crap to do in the area, because I am bettering the convention bores me within an hour.
Sounds like anime became trendy and was ruined like classic gaming.
Quote from: Gentlegamer on 04/05/2015, 06:07 PMSounds like anime became trendy and was ruined like classic gaming.
yeah kinda. and, like most things we do here in RoundEyeTown, we fucking do it wrong.
some of my friends want to drive 1-2 hours away to these things, so they can sit and watch Anime in a room, attend panels full of sluts, or play Magic the Gathering...
It's like they never even internet, not even once.
Anime cons used to be held at colleges, and were populated by 100 dudes, 8 ladies, most of whom had interesting jobs. Now they're populated by 10,000 dudes and 18,000 ladies, most of whom never set foot in a college and are completely unemployable.

HAhahahaha. I'm glad I'm not the only person who's a cranky old man about new anime fans. Some of these people seem like they are actively trying to be a NEET in every way possible.
Since I left IL I've been to NDK several times out here and it is quite fun, and they have non-weeb centric panels as well and some quite good JP guests.
I really want to check out Anime North some time. There are a lot of OGs there and the Anime Hell events look like exactly what I want out of a con.
The way I describe cons now, to be short and sweet:
It's a bunch of assholes I don't like, telling me about things I do like, often in an incorrect way.
the cons in the Cleveland/Columbus area are usually lame. We get dumb guests like Phil Lamar. Who cares.
Am I right in guessing most modern anime fans are into total weeb/waifu stuff (or sexy cosplay fodder for girls) and not stuff like Vampire Hunter D and Akira?

Mostly, yeah.
I mostly like the cyberpunk/magical girl crap.
Everyone else is like OMFG NARUTOTOTOAUHUUUUHHHH and shit.

I dunno if his generalizations are correct, but I LMAO'ed at that as well. ;)
Does Macross count as anime? That's really the only thing I was into.
Meanwhile I mostly watch anime from the 70s-90s.

Exactly. Every now and then I might branch out. But like music, movies and other pop culture...I am firmly entrenched in 50's-80's...
