Taito, a once legendary developer. They were no slouch on the PC Engine.
This poll has almost all the games they created.
I included the NEC Avenue games at the bottom of the poll. Toaplan games are in it because Taito published them in the arcades, and/or did the conversion.
There were something like 3 CD-Rom games, but none of those were important. Unless you really like Auleria.
tatsujin was a toaplan ported by taito ( same as nec avenue)
hana taka daka is a great underachieved game, shame the t16 didn't have this game, not far from the best in cute shootemup
Hard to pin down just three.
But I went for Ninjawarriors, Tatsujin and Cadash
Chuka Taisen
Super Darius
Super Darius II
I find Cadash to be a little hard...
I went with the games I logged the most hours playing:
Kyuuuukyoyyyuuko Tiger
Parasol Stars
Daisenpu
....but as folks have pointed out, I'm really a Toaplan fan.
If I was choosing Taito-centric titles, the top three would be:
Parasol Stars
Cadash
Rainbow Islands
I've heard Auleria is a decent game, but I've never taken the time to play thru it. For me, Super Darius 2, Cadash, & Liquid Kids.
Don't want to derail the thread, but allow me a quick question: Is "Super Darius 2" on PCE actually the best version on consoles, or is there anything better? I just read some critical opinion on that game but if it's the best or only home version, I'd get it nonetheless.

It depends on how you view the arcade versions. If you think that they're flawed, then you'll probably prefer SDII. It's a remake inspired by the arcades and is balanced for single screen gameplay.
Couldn't vote for one that I like to play often: Qix
Because they're the ones I've played the most, my picks are Cadash, Parasol Stars, and VolfieV. There's a lot of good titles in the list, though, with the only real clunker being Rastan Saga II.

Dude! Have you seen VolfieV*?
VolfieV is a toasty, hot serving of Qix!!!
It is a lot of fun! I am sure you will like it.

*duly noted
Super Darius, Cadash, and Chase HQ for me. I was tempted to pick Liquid Kids instead of Chase HQ, but I figured Cadash is platformer enough to satisfy me. Gotta have variety. And Darius.
Missed the comment about Auleria. If it was on the list I would have chosen it instead of Chuka Taisen.
I love Cadash, but I haven't played it nearly as much as the other games I listed.

no VolfieV love, son I am disappoint ...

I didn't read it closely enough so only voted for one, didn't realise you could pick three.
my top three are:
1. Hana Taka Daka
2. Rainbow Islands
3. Mizubaku Daibouken

If you spend about 20 mins just killing enemies over and over again before fighting the first boss, you will be leveled up fairly decently and able to dish out good punishment. Do the same thing in the next area after the first boss, and on and on. Also, the priestess tends to be the best character to use if you are playing solo.

I beat Cadash yesterday actually, which is why I made this thread :)
Agreed, the grinding is somewhat annoying but well worth it. I killed the final boss in 5 hits as the Ninja because I was Level 20 (Max Level).
Also by leveling up enough, you will only ever take 1 damage from most enemies. There is also an item that adds 8 HP to your max health for only 500 gold. Since you get a ridiculous amount of gold from grinding so much, this isn't a problem.
Have to go with S.C.I. as my top pick.

The Saturn version is almost arcade-perfect, and compensates for the dual screens being cut off by letting you zoom the view in and out. (!)

Yeah, Saturn is definitely the way to go for Darius II proper. I don't particularly care for the "improvements" in the PCE version, other than perhaps the extra bosses.
It's also the only port with the "tuna sashimi" voice sample.
I do have to point out that the Saturn port has a few bugs that make some routes practically unwinnable if you are going for a 1CC. Any time a satellite enemy is in a stage, it is bugged to fire non-stop (no gaps to get through), and the laser hitbox is larger than the sprite meaning that being close to it can easily kill you and ruin your run.
Voted for:
Hana Taka Daka
Parasol Stars
Rainbow Islands
love rainbow island and parasol stars! super darius is great as well then again i voted for the only 3 taito games i have for pc engine lol
I am only bumping this for some interesting new info I learned today:
The PCE port of Kyuukyoku Tiger was actually developed by the dev-company A.I. (http://gdri.smspower.org/wiki/index.php/A.I) and only published by Taito. I had always thought that Taito worked on the port.
Other PCE games programmed by A.I. (following the link above) include PC Genjin 1 and 3, Super Raiden, and Kabuki Ittou Ryoudan, among many more.
OT: Of what I've played, I probably like Kiki KaiKai the most, though it's not exactly the best game around. Although I am starting to have my doubts as to how many of these ports were developed by Taito themselves. Maybe the original games (Hana Taaka Daka? the revamped Chuuka Taisen?) were done in-house.

Interesting!
I love learning about this stuff... :)
RAIDEN & Supah Raiden CD-ROM :)
TANGENT:
I couldn't help but notice XaviX is listed....
QuoteXaviX
Taikan Game Series: K.O. Shiyouze! Excite Boxing (Epoch)
Taikan Game Series: Strike Kimeruze! Excite Bowling (Epoch)
Taikan Game Series: Super Shot! Excite Golf (Epoch)
I own the boxing game and played the Bowling + Golf game years ago.
I never thought there would EVER be a connection, however flimsy, between beloved PCE games and XaviX.
I wonder what company developed Jackie Chan XaviX Power Mat...that game rocks. More exercise software should subject the player to a random ninja ambush every few minutes.
I voted Parasol Star as I didn't see we could vote for 3 games.
I wanted to choose a PCE only game so my vote could only go to either Hana Taka Daka, Parasol Star or Auleria. But the arcade ports are great too.
Don doko don, Cadash, and Parasol Stars for me.
