Title: Turbo Duo scuff removal/repair?
Post by: PolygonDaily on 08/13/2015, 11:28 PM
Hi everyone,

Purchased a TurboDuo 2 weeks ago, at a really good price.

It has some major scuffs on the top, is there any way to get these buffed down or smoothed?

I don't mind them so much since I got it at such a good price but if there's a way to make it look better I'd love to try

Thanks

Looks like a good cleaning is in order.  A magic eraser may help remove some of the scuffs.

Turtle wax rubbing compound followed by TW polishing compound. If that doesn't work cover it up with carbon fiber stickers

I'm serious about the TW. Give that a try. The stickers were in reference to another scratched duo for sale not long ago

Or sand it and paint it Glossy Black!

Seriously though I have to fight the urge to paint my DUO metallic black.

Magic eraser for sure with a little bit of water. However make sure to buff the entire top of the system when doing so. Otherwise the finish will not match. Make sure to wipe it horizontally in an even motion. I've done this many times with great results.

After you get done buffing it you need to take a hair dryer to it and run it over in even patterns for about 7 mins on the high setting, then down shift to low for another 4 mins or so.

Won't going over the turbo duo logo in the top left with a magic erase remove it? Isn't that just screen printed onto the plastic?!

If he runs a hair dryer over that area for a few mins in advance it should be ok.

It would only remove it if you scrub way to hard.

Hey I'm planning on sending this out to you anyway for a recap and cd work. Would you be willing to give it an all around polish?  If so, how much more would it cost?

I'll just buff out those scratches for free. I generally do that anyways with any I receive that are scratched up. Only takes me maybe 5 minutes.

Don't be so lazy.  Show that Duo that you love it and spend some time cleaning it up yourself.

Good idea, I just don't wanna ruin it. I'm liking the carbon fiber decal idea too. Still debating

Right on target, autocorrect on my SM-N900V via Tapatalk removed the resale portion. Thanks for correcting

Before you use Magic Eraser, Try this.  Take it apart and clean the plastics with warm water, mild soap and a soft tooth brush.  Buy some Autoglym Rubber and Vinyl Care Spray. Apply it generously with an automotive microfiber cloth.

You'd be surprised how much just doing that helps conceal the scratches.  The system will also look clean and shiny.  And you will have avoided doing any further irreversible damage to the plastic's texture.
