This is a Fram mod rather than a Sram mod that WilyKat is doing.
The Fram is more expensive than the Sram version but....
Unlike Sram does not need a large storage cap to hold memory.
So no loss of data for years and years and years....
No battery in the Tennokoe Bank.
IC is a Cypress FM18W08.
It's a FRAM with a similar pinout.

Formatted Ram OK.
Have just tried Soldier blade and save is in the bank.

Just ordered some switches which are Hartman PT65503 16way hex.
This a rotary switch that will have pullup resistors giving an extra 16 banks of data.
Will wire up the switch when it arrives and post to all a wiring diagram.
This will of course work with WilyKats great piece of work on the next thread.
I will probably upgrade mine to his switching circuit when he's finished it.
Here is some info of my installation.
Switch has been added and all works.
1. Remove original IC and add wire to Pad 21

2. Flatten pins on new IC for wiring.

Note I have used the VCC/+5v input of the original Sram cap not the output which the Sram requires.

Note pullup resistors and used a cutdown 8pin IC socket for ease of removal if switch needs changing.

Finished view of Ram Bank selector.
great mod, this should be sticky'd
And my original SRAM hack isn't sticky'd? :p
*goes off to cry quietly with a bottle of Everclear*
Truly Epic Thread! Def sticky this.
Thanks Vimto for all of your hard work on this,

Thanks again for your work on the SRAM hack :D
the BRAM thread from wilykat
somewhat a precursor to this thread and also expands the backup ram to multiple pages
the differences are the BRAM mod keeps the battery/supercap backup type whereas the FRAM eliminates the need for power to keep the saves

You can use this dip to soic adaptor for all Dip versions. e.g. Tennokoe 2
Heres a 28pin soic to 28pin Dip 300mm.

UK

Just browse for a
28pin soic to 28pin Dip 300mm adaptor
There are 24 pin DIP to SOIC adapter that is 300mill wide for 2k sram. Not as common evidently as the wider 600mill version.

Steve asked me to sticky this thread, but nobody asked for the other one to be stickied. It is now.
Love this shit!

Wondering if there might be a way to combine some of the sticky threads since almost the whole 1st page is now sitckies. Like maybe a capacitor replacement sticky and then place links to all the capacitor replacement threads. Just a thought as im thinking now some new posts are going to go on the 2nd page and might get missed.
i second this as the 2 save ram mods should be lumped as options of the same basic mod
Maybe just REPAIR and MOD's
Or maybe a sub-forum just for the stickies with the warning "Check these first or be banned!"
Too many stickies! but seriously though this is very impressive work and I like the idea of never loosing a save. Plus you can play Wizardry with a lot less hassle now!

I would think, though, that with the mod section, stickies are kind of the norm, right? The whole idea of this forum would be great ideas, no?

That comment was from before they were consolidated. The whole 1st page was almost all stickies making new threads get buried.
Sorry if this is necro'ing the thread (please tell me if that's not allowed, and I'll repost elsewhere).
@vimtoman, do you know if the FM18W08 (wide voltage) is necessary, or will a regular FM1808 work as well?
Thanks!

You can use either.
The FM18W08 was the only one in stock at the time.
The PCE is a 5v system so FM1808 is preferred.
