I'm always nervous looking around eBay these days, I know there are a lot of reproductions/fakes for things like, Famicom, GBA etc. But wasn't sure about Hucards. Anyone have the word on this?
yeah you can find a ton of overpriced repros for PCE just like any other machine, lol
fortunately, you can tell they're not real.
I don't know if they're still for sale or what. Members here make/sell them.
We (Aetherbyte) make new HuCards too, but they're for the game I made, not for repros of old games.
Yeah, they're pretty obviously fake. Instead of a small, thin pcb in a big plastic tray, they're one big, thick pcb.
or they're a big stupid looking blue thing with a dumb looking dolphin on the cover from some stupid ass company called like, Aetherballs.
But that's not a repro or a fake. That's 100% legitimate original awesome.

Yea, I don't mind obvious reproduction stuff so much it's the guys who sell things under the radar.
Twice on eBay I've bought carts as official and they've turned out to be fake.
A few chinese boots from back in the day are close to legitimate looking, using the same form factor and materials. Even those aren't hard to spot as fakes, though, if you know what to look for (the art and back label are different).
If you're worried about look-alike bootlegs. HuCard repros aren't at the post where even a moderately discerning eye wouldn't notice they're not original cards. That time may eventually come though.

If there is a monetary incentive to make perfect bootlegs they will appear eventually. Thankfully the problem is that for whoever makes them, they can't just sell them all at once or people will be tipped off so they would need to sit on them and slowly dole them out through multiple accounts or something. That definitely reduces the incentive to embark on the venture.

Not sure when I purchased this but I knew what I was getting. I could not handle the price of the real thing, being about $450 USD or more. And I wanted a hard copy, so reproduction was a good option for me. I think I purchased this for about $45USD. This is like a thick PC board. Not like a HuCard at all.

I sort-of like the case and small art insert. I wonder if I could find these for purchase. I would get them for all my HuCards.
