QuoteHidden shoot ?em up game Dark Left found on the PC Engine Super CD-ROM game Tenshi no Uta II 天使の詩II 堕天使の選択 by Riot / Telenet
To access it, load the game using System Card 1 or 2 so that the warning screen appears (top photo). Then on the joypad press up, up, down, down and buttons I+II simultaneously. On the title screen, it says that the game is produced by Pandaemonium.
Anyone try it? I don't have the game.
holy shit! I will try this tonight - I was just playing this last night too. Will report back.
very cool....always a bit mind boggling people STILL find new stuff like this years latter
photoshopped.

Add it to the long list of non-shooter PCE games with shooters within them, which already outnumbers the total dedicated shooters for the SNES/SFC. :)

Hahahjaja! Does it really outnumber the dedicated SNES shooters? That's crazy.

BACK ON TOPIC:
I have this game, so I am going to try it out tonight.
I thought this was a B.S. post on the other thread, but I am so happy I was wrong.
When can I pick up the PCEworks Bundle with Dark Left in it?

PM me $$$$$ and ill send you a Limited Edition disc (plus a golden coin!) for the love of it.
:)
It's coming early next year bundled with Nantettatte Engine and Henshin Engine (original name prototype version); energy drink and commemorative double ended dildo are optional.

I hope he puts my shit on a disc. I will unleash the fury.
Is it just another caravan shooter or a complete game?
Quote from: Keith Courage on 12/11/2017, 05:23 PMIs it just another caravan shooter or a complete game?
Looks more like a complete game, except there isn't any music. My camera died while recording, just as I reached the second stage.
After youtube finishes converting it, 1080p will be available:

Yeah, I just got done playing it for a bit - definitely the start of something. I wonder how long it is?

Damn, that really is a nice find!
I am OK without music, but I wish the boss/enemies had some more SFX...
...but, ultimately, I am just glad this side project/unfinished/cancelled game was a hidden Easter egg.

There's a little bit of roughness to it (more than the usual Telenet brand :P ) in that video (like the parallax scrolling at the boss). It makes me wonder if they had done all this coding for a new shootemup, had the project canned, and then decided to stick the remains into a hidden bonus mode for a random game. It seems like an awful lot of effort for something that many people wouldn't even discover if they didn't have the right system card.
But color me impressed that it's so elaborate!
It will take some getting used to the horizontal scrolling combined with the enemy formations and some hard to see bullets. Still a nice bonus to an already great game.
Holy hell! Damn, stinks there's no music, maybe some hacking of it, could make it so a soundtrack could be added.

Don't worry, Tobias will use music from some other game's arranged soundtrack for the standalone release. :P
Does the game keep loading from the CD? If not then why not just put another game disc or CD in the TG16 or pc engine CD player and hit the play button. Or better yet. Hit play on the disc that is already inserted for music.
I just answered my own question. No audio pass through from the CD audio while the game is in play. doesn't work.
Pretty awesome that stuff like this is still being discovered. It makes me wonder what else is lurking out there yet.

I thought of that, but was playing on my TurboDuo. At first I thought that it was a single stage with a single load, but then the second stage had new enemies and dynamic tiles. Since it's running under CD2, it
has to be loading between stages, even though I didn't notice at the time.
But I'll try it with my IFU setup another time.
So to confirm this will work with any system card under 3.0? I actually don't have anything below that, but figure they'd be cheap enough to buy to play this. Wouldn't want to buy a card and have it not work though so if anyone can confirm what this works with that would be awesome. I believe there is 1.0, 2.0 and 2.1?

Yes it will. You can use an everdrive for those CD cards as well.

Thanks for the video, BT. It looks pretty decent for a hidden bonus game.
Also this is obvious, but everyone here should buy their copy of Tenshi no Uta II now, before they all become $50.

^^
I grabbed one for $8 yesterday. Doesn't get too much cheaper than that shipped from Japan.
yeah, mine was $10. its only gonna be a day or so before they notice :P
There isn't much on US eBay right now, unless I am missing some incorrectly spelled listings.
yeah, I went for one of the JP listings. loads of games in france and germany for some reason :P
I arrival, boss second stage, juas ten shi no uta 2 is a very good game... 25 year in my house and i played 30 hours and one shoothing game all time inside a, incredible.
JAPJAC is a good user?
I find those hidden shooters to be fun. I always wonder if the programmer+artist done an elaborate easter egg for fun, a secret pitch using another game's development time, or just a disgruntled programmer mad about having to work at yet another boobie avg (I don't think that's the case for any hidden shooters on the PCE but it's funny to imagine a super excited programmer trying to convince his bosses to make a shooter after too many rounds of Star Force... "NO HIROSHI WE'RE STICKING TO THE PLAN, SUPER MAHJONG SOAP SPA III PLUS CD IS A GO").
I think I paid less than $1 for this game.

I would also try looking for the game with the name translated, like Poem of Angel 2, Angels Poem, Song of Angel on ebay & elsewhere. Sometimes Jp sellers try to translate the names to english.

My pleasure. Shoutout to my lifelong mucker TekCadet/C86/tvgame that told me.
The same geezer that showed the internet what Harmful Park, Groove Jigoku V, Little Ralph, Ore No Ryouri, Segata Sanshirou, Crows:The Battle Action and many more were for the first time. Legend.
Disseshowedo.
That's funny. I thought Sega made Segata Sanshiro. :)
You never really understood what "deserved credit" was anyway though...
Why are people buying it? I made a 'valuation' copy earlier and it plays pretty damn terrible. I think this one was better off staying hidden! :/
Why are they buying it? That I don't know. I find this discovery interesting historically and I'm glad to have it. So far I've only played the first one and that was 20 years ago. People like this developer a lot even though most of what they make is pretty lame. Riot/Telnet/Wolf Team had this charm to their way of doing things that is very "PC Engine" in the best ways. They represent a huge part of what was lost when 16-bit died so I can see being interested in all the minutia. Also, when this was just an RPG most people can't play it had less appeal than it does now that there is a secret shooter on it that anyone can enjoy.
Well, if you can get it really cheap, why not? I have other bad shooters already. Heh.

I want to buy it (and the first game) because it's an rpg (my favorite genre), relatively cheap, and runin gives 'em a thumbs up. The shewty is just a bonus.
The Tenshi no Uta games are great and unique feeling RPGs that make better use of the hardware than most PCE RPGs.
Yeah, like those said above - I didn't have Tenshi no Uta II, though I had the first. So this was just the right sort of kick in the pants for me to get the sequel, and it will indeed go up in price as people discover it's got a shooter of any sort in it.

I'll have to grab the first one too then.
I have one of the Tenshi games but I can't recall which. If I own the second then I'll give this a shot this weekend.

Correct answer.
This is pretty cool news! I'll have to pop my copy in and try this out soon!
Has anyone played all of the way through the shoot-'em-up yet to see how long it is?
