Neo Geo Classic! Hopefully it's better than the X.
That looks like the outline of a table-top arcade machine to me.
Siracha brought that up in chat and I gotta agree ya both, though the control panel in front looks like it angles off too much. Maybe it's a tease and that's a separate stick in front of a monitor?
"Mahjong Kyou Retsuden II" and "Eightman Forever" confirmed as launch titles.

I wouldn't mind 8man, so I'd be stoked!
Of course, you are mocking my tastes!

When I bought my AES, Eightman was one of the first games I picked up. This game was at a Super Saver Cinema near me and I loved it in the arcade. Years later when I saw people had a negative opinion of the game online, I was absolutely shocked.

Yeah, I played it all the time in college at arcade... I loved that I could get far on a quarter (frugality!).
To be quite honest I don't consider the games I listed as "bad" either.
First game I owned for Neo Geo was Ninja Combat,Eightman looks like a game I'd like.
Long as it's not another neo-geo x i'm fine if they made a mini console.
Sweet, SNK is releasing a revision of the Vectrex!!!

In!
I'm curious. I never had an Neo Geo as the prices were astronomical back then for the console and games, nowadays the prices on this stuff is insane.

The Neo Geo X was a mini console. It had AC in, HDMI out, full sized joysticks, etc. You must have jumped on the hate train before realizing what it was. It even has a fake plastic shell that looks just like the original but is smaller. Remember?
The issue with the X wasnt it being a handheld or a console (it was both) but rather quality in key areas. No matter WHAT this thing is there is ZERO reason to suspect this thing wouldn't suck just as bad in key areas making most of what's good about it pointless. Sure, one could blame Tommo for the X but who do you blame for the software SNK is releasing these days?
I hope it's great. I hope it's as good as the last Neo Geo Pocket game they squeezed out, I just doubt that it will be. These types of produce are for people too young to remember the quality of the original.

I was looking forward to neo-geo x when it was announced originally for the novelty sake. Then after it's release i saw the reviews and decided it was not for me beside i was fine having a cmvs by that point. Now i've heard you can hack it to make it playable but you shouldn't have to in the first place.I just hope this,neo-geo mini turns out right but knows if this product will be in house or license out to another.Unlike sega who hasn't still learned since there up&coming megadrive mini is being made by atgames.
Who else thinks this is going to be a neo geo classic?

The Neo Geo X was no SNES Classic Mini, but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as the f*cks at Neo-Geo.com made it out to be. I enjoy playing it from time to time and I had an MVS long before it was released. It's a fun thing to play with.
The TV out was bad and the USB stick is basically defective and that's total BS. The actual Neo Geo X feels great in the hands though. I like it for Slug and shooters.

To have that retro feel you'll pay as much as you did with an actual neo geo and pay 200 for each piece.
Looks like there is a software collection also being released for SNK's 40th anniversary. Here's the blurb about it, edited slightly:
QuoteThe SNK 40th ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION includes classic titles such as Alpha Mission, Athena, MOTHER @%*{*ING CRYSTALIS!!!!!, Ikari Warriors, Ikari Warriors II: Victory Road, Ikari Warriors III: The Rescue, Guerilla War, P.O.W., Prehistoric Isle, Psycho Soldier, Street Smart, TNK III, and Vanguard - with more titles to be announced! Get the complete experience by playing both the arcade and home console versions on many of these titles!
I was never a fan of Ikari Warriors, and thought that Athena was one of the worst games on the NES, but the inclusion of Crystalis is more than enough to make this an instant buy for me. I absolutely love that game, and was very sad when I played it again a few months ago and realized that the 30-year-old battery wasn't working anymore.
CRYSTALISSSSSSSSSS
If this isn't out for an outrageous price it will be an instant purchase for sure!
I know it's not a popular opinion, but I liked the neo geo x. I didn't even know about until the day it came out so I never got on the hype train. I always hooked it up via HDMI ( which was the whole point IMO). Once they fixed the aspect ratio issue, what else was there to complain about? The price? You already knew it, so why complain?
Not a lot of the cool Neogeo titles I was hoping for in that list...
One of my problems with how SNK has done things since, say, at least the wii shop? They release things in a weird chronological-ish order. I have zero interest in buying Fatal Fury. Yet Fatal Fury is the first game released whenever SNK starts releasing stuff. I would gladly pay to get Real Bout Fatal Fury 2, sure, but I'm not going to buy most things leading up to it. Likewise for Samurai Shodown 1. I'd buy Samurai Shodown 2, 4, and 5 but 1 isn't something I'd ever want to purchase.
Looking at this list it seems SNK is going back even further which is certainly not coming closer to the SNK games that I like the most.
This is all pre-Neo as far as I know.
I agree that they have put Fatal Fury out too many times. This may not be the most fun release ever but at least it's not Fatal Fury...or worse, some random KOF where they HD-ed the graphics and fixed some infinite combos but borked a dozen other things.
My only fear is that it will be a garbage release with blurry graphics and shitty emulation for no reason. If it's not like that, I'm in.
I love Ikari, but I'm taking arcade Ikari and especially Victory Road. A lot of indoors kids have only played the games on NES (or with fuct controls) and those versions suuuuuuuuuuuuck. The NES version of almost anything sucks. Sucks and has shops for some fucking reason.
Street Smart rules.

Okay, that's a much better list of games than I was expecting. I'm very happy that there's no Fatal Fury 1 (or other first games that nobody in their right mind wants to play) on there. Yeah, it's missing a few of my favorites but overall it's a solid list of games.
If it isn't that SNK should pretend this never happened and only come back when they successfully copy that gorgeous design.
If I *knew* that dumb little box didn't have a garbage joystick and buttons I'd buy this in a second. I smell a rat though. We'll see.

I am looking forword to this. Mostly because I think it would look great in my sons room.
Granted I am sure there will be models out there who will make the stick more authentic and higher quality.
'Tis cute but isn't what I'd want. I've no interest in playing on a cramped tabletop cab, so it'd be a needlessly bulky (and pricier) console with only one controller port. The game list ain't bad (only about half vs fighters), though I'd love to see some Nightmare in the Dark, Bomberman, Magical Drop, and Puzzle Bobble.
It's very close to what I would be looking for, but ultimately too small.
I guess it doesn't matter. I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a consolized MVS yesterday with a 161 in 1 multi cart, with the plans to eventually upgrade that to a NeoSD in the future.
Is it really that little cab thing? Does it have HDMI out?
Rumor has it yes but nothing official yet. Rumors also state that it has HDMI. I don't think I'll buy it myself but it's a neat curiosity. And yeah, I'd also definitely bet that the controls aren't worth much.
I'm amazed they went Bar top instead of the AES because it be cheaper instead of the built in screen.
It looks ok. I'm not thrilled by that arcade stick. it looks clicky. I am interested if the price is right.
You know the original AES stick is clicky, right?
Quote from: schweaty on 05/05/2018, 01:30 AMYou know the original AES stick is clicky, right?
Speaking of clicky, I really hope the additional pads are as good as the CD pads were BITD. If they are cheap imitation and don't have the same feel, that would be really disappointing.
I may screw around with the stick for a bit only while the system is hooked to the tv via HDMI. However, I don't see a way I could comfortably play in handheld mode where my hand isn't blocking the screen.
Hehe...all arcade sticks are clicks, guy. Well, not Pac Man or Tron but every Neo stick ever sold from the MVS to AES to Neo CD and even Neo Geo Pocket and even the reviled Neo Geo X. All were microswitch.
SNK used to rule so much...

It's not that bad... but you got to give people a discount since there's tons of better fighters on the NeoGeo.
I just now realized that there's no Crystalis :'( why doesn't SNK show some love for their pre Neo games. I would love to have some Victory Road or Guerrilla War arcade games on that.

That's my fault. I had mentioned the SNK 40th Anniversary software collection in the thread that was originally about the 40th anniversary hardware. So, the short answer is: hardware = Neo Geo, software = arcade/NES.

Man. How hard is it to get your own damned button layout right? WTF?
The buttons (granted pretty much the same as the leaked image) looked cramped as fuck.
Meh that button layout looks to cramp to me.Still since it is official it really reminds of the coleco tabletops from the 80's.
That sux.
Quote from: SignOfZeta on 05/10/2018, 09:15 PMMan. How hard is it to get your own damned button layout right? WTF?
SNK finally realized most people are derpy when trying to use their ring or pinky fingers on a controller. I am not a fan of the change because it isn't authentic, but four buttons wide was not a great design choice originally.
You're missing the point. They already did a 2x2 layout for the Neo CD with colored buttons like this but they re-arranged the order of buttons. Presumably this is because they want the KOFs to have buttons that lineup like Capcom's (kicks on bottom, harder attacks to the right) and they still haven't figure out how to add a button config to their old ROMs.
I'm really hoping that stick doesn't suck as bad as it obviously does...we'll see.
Yet they also will be having AES/CD style gamepads you can use on it with the 2 controller ports supplied. Unless you have to hunch over it, just HDMI it to the TV and use a game pad. Problem solved.
at least after "40 years" they stayed true to thier roots and released another POS
Will those game pads be FUCKED? I'd say there is at least a %70 chance they will be. That stick looks super crap.
Quote from: bob on 05/16/2018, 06:28 PMat least after "40 years" they stayed true to thier roots and released another POS
Even though I love a lot of SNK games, this had me laughing my ass off.
I will have to take a look at this, but I concur a nicely made full size bar top in the MVS style would sell gangbusters. I'd pay $300+ for something like that with a collection of basically all the games, either up front or nickel and dime me through some kind of storefront or new cartridges - just make the hardware solid.

Wait, it has TWO controller ports? That's actually pretty good sounding...
