Title: PC Engine AC Adapter
Post by: putney on 11/10/2006, 06:56 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm new to the boards (and the PCE/TG16 scene in general) and had a question.  I recently received an original white PC Engine from Japan, sans power adapter.  I was wondering, is it safe to use a US NES adapter?  I know both are marked as 9V, I've used it safely on my Super Famicom, and I've seen a few original Famicom adapters on eBay advertised as working for Famicom/Super Famicom/PC Engine, so I would think that'd be the case, but I'd really hate to blow it up or anything.  Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!

i do not know the outs of US NES adaptor but generally it is important, that the (+) (-) polarisation is the same and the supply is able to provide the necessary output-current and for the last point, the plug fits into the hole. so if these things fits, there is nothing in your way to use it.

btw: welcome aboard

Most importantly, CHECK AMPERAGE :)  Or you will electrocute or underpower your system.

underpower only may destroy the AC-adaptor and overpower is impossible, if the voltage is correct :-"

but of course i forgot to mention above, that the outputvoltage shouldn't be higher than 9V O:)

You're right - it was the extra voltage that killed my system.  I remembered it wrong.  Even 10V's will fry it (learned that from experience).

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and it sounds like Putney and I are pretty much in the same boat.  I have a white PC Engine as well, but it's a PAL B system.  Now I live here in the United States and mine did come with the AC adapter, the input AC is 220V 50/60 Hz, and the output DC is 9V 850MA.  Now if I remember correctly, the United States NES AC adapters input AC is 110V.  I think what you have to do is go to Radio Shack and get one of those voltage converters if you live here in the United States.  But Putney I don't know where you live (I'm assuming United States) so this may or many not apply to you.

Soooooo....I'm throwing this out to those who live in the United States and use a PC-Engine.  How did you get yours running?  I didn't want to plug anything in either or use converters unless I was pretty sure of what to do.  Please help!

already anything neccessary is mentioned above.

resume:

Voltage: 9V
Polarisation: same as the original (and also described on the PCE itself)
Current: 850mA (is more than enough)
same Plug

end of line
