I think I may know why your brain is bringing up New Zealand Story...but it's not right. It does have a similar tinkly 'feel' to the music but it doesn't really suit the game it's from.

It's a tough one...it's the sound effect when you get a 1up. You get it on level 1 by shooting those odd white invisible things at the top of the screen.
