Title: New Mysterious Song screens...actual hardware
Post by: OldRover on 05/18/2007, 09:43 AM
My CDROM is fortunately one of the very robust ones, and is able to read CDRs burned even at 16x...that's the slowest my present burner is able to burn them at (I have an old burner that can do 1x but it's in a box somewhere, unused at the moment). Anyways, I fired up Mysterious Song on my system this morning, and here's the screenies:

This will also help me check for potential problems in the game code...so far, a couple have been spotted, mainly snowy palette fades (caused by using vsync at the wrong time) and pink overscan (oops, palette index 256). Other than that, so far it looks pretty decent on the real thing, the scrolling is exceptionally smooth (much smoother than in Magic Engine) and the control is virtually flawless. It seems to work far better on real hardware than it does in any emulator, even the cinemas are audio-synced correctly. All in all...success. :)

Looks really cool! It will be nice to play the ultimate game on a TV as well!  Looks like your kid has gotten quite big, nice!

It's looking nice. Looking forward to an actual release on a CD (no CD-R!).

How far will you play into the game to look for errors? the entire game?

I should hope so.

That said, I'm really eager for a release.

Is the cute kid included in the Deluxe Edition package?

Lookin' gooood, Mr. Kotter!  The third pic, where your little one is almost mimicking the cut scene, is fan-frickin-larious.

I'm among those that thing overscan should always be black, since letterboxing is so common these days, nobody would notice a bit of black on the bottom and/or sides if they happen to creep in.  But a giant green bar (or other bright color) like on many Sega Master System games is downright distracting.

The pink overscan would be tremendously distracting, methinks...hehe :D looks like I've gotta do some palette tweakage.

Beta testing of MSR has been going very smoothly, so I figured it was high time for some new hardware screenshots. Note that these were taken while the machine was using the RF out rather than the composite video out, so the colors aren't as bright as they could be. And again, Rhianna decided to get in on the fun. :)
