Title: Any plans to create a archive of TG16 PCEngine manuals and game covers?
Post by: greedostick on 06/21/2007, 12:02 AM
I think it's cool that there is a forums about the PC systems but I have yet to find a site completely dedicated to archiving manuals, inserts, flyers, Turbo grafx/PCEngine magazines, and any other turbo stuff that has been lost. It is already hard enough to find alot of these games. I think this website would be a good place to start making a archive of everything turbo. From game screenshots, manual scans, back insert scans, cd scans, to a complete databe of codes for TG16 and PCEngine games.

I have been a huge turbo fan for many years now and I hate to see this material lost. I think that if there are still people roaming around here we need to get a project started and keep the turbo stuff that can be saved avaible to everyone on the internet....before it's lost for good.

At least you can get cover scans and a list of all PCE/TG games here: www.pcecp.com

greedostick, I've thought about similar.

I already posted all the TZD flyers I still had. I'd be down for scanning other stuff if someone was interested in setting up an archive for it.

Superpcenginegrafx.com has some flyers from Radioshack and such.

I still have some 80's/90's video game magazines with ads for TG-16 stuff, pacakging, and a few other odds and ends around.

There is still a lot of decent stuff archived out there, the problem I see with it is that it's all over the place. Having a lot of it in one place would be nice.

There also used to be a site that archived entire issues of TurboPlay magazines.

But while the site's homepage still exists, none of the links work anymore.

http://www.crazybanana.tk/ (http://www.crazybanana.tk/) is a good repository of manual and cd scans too, but it's far from exhaustive.

I am definitely down to try and do this if possible. Problem is I am not the smartest when it comes to getting all this stuff to someone. Don't really know how. I already have 56 manuals in PDF format I am ready to share including Dracula X, Ys books 1 and 2, and a bunch of common american releases. I have some games I could scan... if I had a scanner. Including English Dynastic hero and a few others.

Here is the link to a good website with every issue of any turbo related magazine scanned and archived. Maybe I can get a hold of them and see if they will let us use there scans. Every scan has there logo inserted on it which makes me think maybe not.

I am sure I could get a few people on the www.neo-geo.com forums to help out also.

Anyone have any idea how much it would cost me to make my own website to archive all this stuff and have a forums there? I don'tknow much about having a webiste really.

The owner of that website is a regular member here. Look for "esteban".

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what's going on with his website right now. Last time I checked none of the links worked. I think he told me the site was in a transition phase or something.

I really don't consider PCE stuff to be that hard to find. eBay has been flooded with it virtually since its inception, and %99.9 of everything comes with the manual.

I guess with most people nowadays collecting CD-Rs rather than official releases though, it would be useful to a lot of people.

That's not the point. The point I am trying to make is that this stuff needs to be archived while we still can. Yes, ebay is flooded with alot of it. There is a whole lot that is extremely hard to find though. Why would I want to wait until everything is near impossible to find? All I am saying is that if you want to help then that would be great. If you are not interested then need not reply.

greedo, this album contains about 2 pages of sales flyers and such from TZD during the 90's

All I have not scanned are the interior posters for msot of those flyers. I may do that sometime.

You can snag them, and archive them if you like.

Unfortunatly all of the manuals I have are over the 128kb limit to post here. Guess I will have to figure something else out.

There's got to be somebody willing to host them for you...

Let me look into what I've got and get back to you.

Hello! If any of you folks are interested in contributing scans to a TG-16 repository (I am hosting), then send me a PM or email me (see my profile).

Scanning Requirements:
Scan at 300 dpi
Save in a lossless format (i.e. .tif).
Use an intuitive, consistent format for naming files (ask me for suggestions... when in doubt, use a long file name).

The files will be *huge*, but we need to do this for posterity. Otherwise, we'll be rescanning everything in 3 years.

I have been working on a massive project that will serve as a central archive for all print materials. :)

esteban,

Those TZD flyers, I originally scanned somewhere ebtween 400-600 dpi, and saved as a tif.

Along with those tif files, I can scan the interior posters of the flyers sometime, place them all on a CD or 2, and mail it to you. Sending you all those tif files through the internet will take a lot of time.

PM me with details as to how you would want those scans.
