OK, I don't know how many people have played Dark Edge (http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=709&page=1#1956), but it's basically a fighter like Ballz or GBA Tekken.
It's a 2.5D fighter, it plays in 3D but uses sprites instead: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wsNkmucw0rE
It's a lot more impressive when you're actually playing, but the forums frown on ROMs. :(
It runs on the Sega System 32 (http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=709) hardware, but this looks like a really simple engine. The game is only 8MB, so storage space isn't a concern.
Can PC-FX do something like this? It has scaling and rotation right? Of course the Dark Edge characters and universe suck, but you could put other characters, and maybe more sprites for smoother rotation, but the question remains, can PC-FX do this?
I'm also basing my question on the game Team Innocent, that definitely uses scaling, but I don't know about rotation...
I think it probably could. The FX is one of the strangest consoles ever in my opinion. So many odd abilities that were never really used. Its true power will probably never be determined.
Well where is the homebrew community to do these things? Don't tell me that you can't get the console easily, on eBay you can find the PC-FX for $100 everyday, sometimes less.
And everybody and their dog can grab the development kit files and program for it, so why exactly do people favor the Dreamcast over this?

Um...because the Dreamcast doesn't suck. Also, people actually own Dreamcasts.
Haven't heard of this game before, looks kinda neat. I think the PC-FX could handle that with ease, but I'm not an expert.
There is a certain reason why there isn't any PC-FX development, but I can't really say exactly what it is; something with the dev tools. There is a lot of interest in PC-FX development by some PCE developers, so there is hope one day there will be some homemade stuff for it.

The PC-FX would have no trouble with anything that appeared on the 32X.

Yeah. The tools (and their documentation) are all in Japanese.
Plus there are very few people that actually own the console. I think I heard once there are only about 100,000 PC-FXs out there.

Actually, Dreamcast sucks pretty hard, since it could never emulate a SNES with 100% speed, and both of mine DIED from the fucking cheap power and maple boards refusing to work one day.

But YOU will be making stuff for this console, right?
EDIT: My bad, I get you and notveidt confused sometimes. :(

LOL, dipshit much?
When I got my DC (both of them) the big thing I wanted was to play SNES on my TV with all my ROMs as perfect as I could get. Unfortunately at that time, SNES was not 100% on the DC. It pisses me off. At least Unreal Tournament ruled (although not as much as the PC version).
Although I haven't tried it lately, I've heard SNES emulation is basically perfect on the Dreamcast now.
I needed a DC for 2 things:
1. SNES emulator
2. Porn viewer
#2 has been taken care of because my family gave me the old computer to put into my room, but it's still too slow to run a lot of ROMs in ZSNES. So I might need to get me another DC...
What you need is a computer. SNES emulation has been almost perfect for years on Windows, and virtually as well on Linux, or OSX.
I'm pretty sure SNES emulation still sucks on DC, although I gave up paying attention since it lagged for so long.
Either way, I think you are some kind of...like...gigantic asshole, or something. A DC is for playing DC games. The emulation is just a cool side track. It emulates Neo Geo CD pretty fucking well, and even AES better than I ever thought possible. SMS is fantastic as well, 2600, etc etc.
The DC is one of the best systems ever, regardless of whether or not you manage to jack off to it as much as you want to.
Personally I think the SNES emulators for Windows suck too.
NesterDC is one of the best emulators out there though! So much fun playing NES on DC.

I test a SNES emulator by loading Yoshi's Island and seeing if the sound is perfect. Every emulator has failed this test, so they are all just "OK", IMO.

I actually prefer IMBNES for PS, even though it isn't any good, because I love playing it on my PSOne w/ LCD. NESter DC is very very good though.

LOL you're so cute when you're angry! ^.^
And you don't have to tell me about the SMS emulation, back when I was on dial-up I really appreciated SMS and NES simply because the filesize was so small, who knew they had such great games attached!

oh my God, i just read this post and screamed so loudly that my wife's water almost broke. why do people refer the DC to the FX for homebrew? are you kidding me? how about 10million DC sold worldwide to about 800,000 FXs only in Japan? plus, the DC is a much more powerful unit with easier tools to work with. in fact, the DC could probably emulate the FX. don't get me wrong now, i've long been a proponent of doing more with the FX. i think Aaron's Lot PC port would have been a GREAT thing to bring to the FX. i've also been hoping someone would put tons of HuCards on a disc to be played on a Duo or FX. how cool would that be? (i'm going to have to mention it to the tml).
Hey George, are you aware of Super HuCard?
http://www.zeograd.com/super_hucard_download.php
That's basically exactly what you describe-- a SuperCD with a crapload of HuCard ROMs. Many of the games will start up but have glitches. Only a handful of them work perfectly from start to finish. Check it out.

Maybe she should drink from the plastic bottles then?
yes that was a joke
Back to the original topic: That game looks awesomely weird. Do you know if it was ported to any console?
Gamefaqs says no, but I'm hoping they're wrong...
super hucard is bad-ass!

Nope. :(
Whoa! Super Card looks cool. If they perfect it, you'll be able to have all HuCards on a handful of discs.

Few are perfect, and it only has the smaller games (to fit in the Duo's memory). Still cool though.
If someone would edit out the non working garbage and just have the disc contain the perfect working from start to finish roms the disc would be great, esp if someone got CareforData to press it.
How would you save your game though? Do DUOs even HAVE memory cards?

Jeez, you've been here how long and you don't know?
The duo has internal save memory. There are also the bank cards, but these only copy and replace the internal memory.

Sorry, I knew the PC-FX has the BMP thing, but I didn't know what DUO had.
Was the Turbo the first system with any kind of memory card?
Probably not, but it sure was an early adopter...

There might be unofficial memory units for the NES as well, I have heard about them but never seen or held one.
The SNES had a 3 slot memory card (box with tails) which plugged into the controller port.
The Genesis also had a memory card, but I am pretty sure that came out after the turbo.
What year did they release a memory card for the PC-E/Turbo?
Famicom had a memory cassette, lol. It was pretty cool :)

1988 I think.

Don't forget the hardware save state that plugs into the cart slot. (http://www.gamersgraveyard.com/repository/snes/peripherals/gamesaver.html)
I saw one of those in a pawn shop, with no AC cable for $19.
Quote from: thatwebsiteThe "+" model allows you to insert 4 AA batteries for a whopping 3-5 hour save. For certain problem games you must insert between 1-4 6 digit codes at the startup screen. The game saver also has built in slow down functions. This product, while a great concept, doesn't work for shit. If it works at all, it usually screws up the graphics and music.
Wow, wow what a great product. I think I'll take the SRAM (or whatever it is) copier any day over this piece of garbage.

The Gamesaver lets you run Super Famicom games, though.
What are you talking about the Game Saver + or whatever was AWESOME, it was save states before there were save states. You weren't supposed to let it sit forever, the point was to help you beat those games that lacked save/password features and sent you back to the beginning, or to beat games that had ultra hard parts you couldn't get past. I never had any problems with the one I had back in the day, if fact that's the only way I was able to beat Actraiser 2 (fucking hardest game ever created).
It would be funny to tell n00bs that the GameSaver+ only worked with the New Game+ mode in Chrono Trigger...
