got a MCD today (my first one) and it refuses to play any cds (audio as well).
procedure:
-turn on the system
-put the cd in > close
-system makes a disc check
-after 5~10 sec i get prompt to push the start button
-the cd-player menu appears
and that's the dead end.
any ideas or suggetions what that prob. could be? similar experiences?
first i will try to clean up the lens.
Cleaning the lens is what I would suggest as well.

It's the lens
This has happened to my original Sega CD
Have you tried playing CD+Gs to see if those work?

yes..the same there. can't run any audio-cds (what's a CDG?).

I think it is very important to have a CD+G to test this feature on all consoles.

Kinda like a graphical karaoke CD

I guess in Switzerland and Japan they didn't advertise how cool it was to be able to play CD+Gs on your old CD video game systems like TGCD and Sega CD  . Of course this didn't help sell any consoles whatsoever.
You'd think that japan would advertise it since karaoke came from there, haha.
wow..you never complete the training

sorry..just wasn't aware of the meaning of "CDG", that's all :P
Is it a model 1? If cleaning the lens doesn't work, check the belt that pulls the tray up after it slides in, sometimes they get loose and don't pull it up all the way.
Take it apart Tatsujin.. and take pics for us too :D

pressing any other button brings you to the CD+G
Can't wait for this guy's faqs if that is the level of his problem solving skills.
You and me both.
My heart skips a beat in anticipation at every press of the "Refresh" button.

Honestly it sounded like the JD Roth tip for the day from Game Pro TV. Seriously some stupid shit. Kits cant even touch this dumbass.

Seeing as I don't try to solve problems, I only try to confuse people into making more problems that are worse, I don't see the comparison here.

Kits, honestly,I used to think you sucked hard core, but I think now that Validus has been around you have started to see some of the errors of you ways. Sometimes it takes something like that to make a change, wether you yourself notice it or not.
I see you doing more posting and less thread starting which is great, and you have started to chill out more and singled out this one dumb ass loser to poke fun at,which has def got my thumbs up.
How about we talk about Sega CD instead of the two special education students at PCEFX?
It is the Christmas season, and as every Sega CD fan knows, that means it is time for the annual playthrough of Snatcher.

Don't flatter yourself with the word special. :P

so, i disassembled the whole unit, cleaned the lens, tried to adjust the laser (potentiometers) etc etc. and nothing helped. the very same fuck as before. what i found out is, that the cd-rom tries to tell me all the time, that the CD is out (> green LED = on, Red LED = on and off etc). does this anyone tell something?
Quotedoes this anyone tell something?

I like Pop-o-matic Trouble better than Mega CD Trouble.

Can the drive move the laser back and forth on it's own? I'm thinking it might be a dead laser.
kinda hard to tell on a model 1 - can you even get the thing to run properly with the case off?

no, always the same condition. the device reports me "cd out" all the time, from switching on till i'm in the cd-menu. what ever it means exactly, since i don't own a manual. i assumed a problem with the end-switches of the cd-sled probably..?
@kitsune: yes, the laser sled is moving smoothly, also i tried to adjust the laser focus itself via the potis.
Quote from: Tatsujin on 01/09/2008, 02:29 AM@kitsune: yes, the laser sled is moving smoothly, also i tried to adjust the laser focus itself via the potis.
Why the hell are you telling me? ¯\(º_o)/¯
Because you are a technological Gawd. You are the "go to" person whenever anyone has a problem. You were put on this earth for a reason... to help people and to improve their lives!
sorry, the ATTN was wrong. should be directed to woodyXP.
Quote from: Tatsujin on 01/09/2008, 02:29 AMthe end-switches of the cd-sled probably..?
You might be onto something... maybe there's a "lid open/closed" type of switch in there and it's
stuck in the open position.
