Title: Holiday Gaming
Post by: VestCunt on 12/27/2007, 01:27 PM
Yesterday I had a chance to spend some quality time with my Duo for the first time in several months.  After playing Bard's Tale on the NES and Gauntlet on the SMS, I beat The Addams Family and rocked Last Alert for a couple hours.  Then I finally figured out how to play the Populous SCD  I got from D-lite.

The Addams Family is a strange game.  It deserves the bad reputation it's acquired, but it's not as bad as, say, Impossamole.  It actually would have been better if it wasn't a CD game.  The worst things about the game are the voice acting, the worthless music, and the absolutely terrible load times that hopelessly mire whatever momentum starts to build.  A fast-playing hucard would have solved these problems and the play control is somewhat bearable once you get used to it.  Ever so, there are tons of better platformers.

I do really like Populous.  I've always been under the impression that it's an unpopular game, is this true?  Any fans here?  I had never played it before and I couldn't figure out what the heck all of the icons did so I ordered a SNES version with manual to help me learn.

Anyone else had time to squander with their TurboGrafx this week?

I've actually had significantly less time to play video games this week, with crazy shit at work, and about 18.6 families to visit for Christmas.

I like the Populous disc- especially the Bomberman world.  It takes some time to beat a world though- as I've only beaten one and haven't played it since.  I remember being captivated by Populous when a friend had it on Genesis back in the day.

I like Populous, though it's not a game I play all the time.

I hear that the SCD version has a Wild West level... I believe it's a level unique to the SCD version. If you've played it, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it as I haven't had a chance.

Is that the in-law portion?

I've opened and played the John Madden DUO CD Football I received from TZD and it was hilarious. Not that the game is bad (well actually I haven't played so many US Football games) but the video cutscenes...OMFG! It's like TTI/Hudson/whoever had such a low budget that they asked friends to do the acting. When you see the crowd cheering, it feels like it's a bunch of 4 or 5 drunk guies sitting on countryside stadium's stands with nobody around.
Still I think the game is quite good as the controls are easy to get used to.

Load Madden with a 2.0 card to see the best fmv sequence.

Last night I finally hooked up PS2 + DDR2 that I bought for my wife over a year and a half ago. I played it for a bit -- AWESOME. I have to get another pad for it.

I also have to find my XaviX and hook that bad boy up as well. I haven't played Jackie Chan XaviX in nearly 2 years, I think...
