Title: Tennokoe Bank - Help!
Post by: Ravij on 01/24/2008, 02:42 PM
I have 2 Tennokoe Banks, which to be honest, haven't been used for at least a year. I just tried them out again today, and both are showing this message:

(?action=dlattach&attach=243&image)

Can someone tell me what it says please!  [-o<

I think that says something along the lines of the backup memory is corrupted or not found.

OK - maybe I need to format the Duo's backup memory - there goes my Ys 4 save   :-({|=

Hopefully it's just that, and not the Tennokoe's Lithium battery that's dead

Before you format use a System card and see if you can see the contents of your backup memory by pressing SELECT at the system card startup screen. Then choose the first option as if you were going to delete files (you don't actually have to).

Does it list the contents of your save memory or not?

EDIT: I guess since you have a Duo you don't even need a System Card. Just press SELECT after you power on the system without any cart inserted.

It does list the contents - but it looks like some of the file names are corrupt on the earlier saves (strange characters in the name), so it could well be that!

Thanks - I'll reformat tomorrow and update..

Yeah, that's definitely what the message is telling you.

But it's always good to check before formatting unnecessarily, although in this case it sounds like the Tennokoe was spot-on.

Yeah, it says that it can't "interact" with this back-up memory.

You CAN rescue those Ys IV save files, using a utility called nanami (http://www.zeograd.com/download_presentation.php?lang=en&id=210), which allows you to actually transfer your Duo save files over to your computer, burn it on a CD-ROM, then write it back to your Duo once you format & clear up your system.  It's a bit of a pain in the ass because you have to hand-write the binary (or was it hex) code on a sheet of paper (tip: just take digital shots of your TV -- much easier to do than writing it down), then transfer those codes back on your computer by hand-typing them in.

I tried to delete all the corrupted saves, loaded Ys and resaved the good ones. Unfortunately it didn't work. I had to reformat in the end and that has fixed things. TBH - I wasn't that far into the game, so its no big loss.

Thanks for everyones help!
