What would be the three "Crown Jewels" in your collection? PCE CD games that combine expense, enjoyment, and rarity/acquisition?
Furthermore- which would be the three "Tiara Jewels" in your collection? PCE hucard games with the same requirements as above?
only three each fellas! We know some of you can list twenty seven crown jewels- keep it shipshape! And others- don't feel too overwhelmed by the big dogs' entries- no right and wrong answers kids!
I'll start- =P~
CDs- Sapphire (bootleg), Dungeon Explorer II, and Dracula X.
Hueys- Coryoon, Lady Sword, and Photo Boy.
This will also reflect games that I've bought but have yet to acquire.
CDROMs:
Exile (in possession, one of my favorite games of all time...cost me $80)
Vasteel (on the way, about the only strategy game I can stand, and the music kicks ass)
Ys I & II (in possession...like most older players, I have fond memories of this game and will still play through it from time to time...bought new from TZD several years ago)
Honorable Mention: Gate Of Thunder, It Came From The Desert, Cosmic Fantasy 2.
Carts:
Air Zonk (in possession, many fond memories of this game...cost me $43)
Cadash (on the way, another memory lane game, played this one for hours on end with all the different characters, even named a company after it!)
Neutopia (on the way, the real reason I got into the Turbo in the first place...)
Honorable Mention: Neutopia II, Dead Moon, Sinistron, Turrican.
Too many, too many...
CD-Roms: Sapphire (original); Tenchi O Kurau; Mad Stalker
(I would have said Drac X, Dungeon Explorer II and Beyond Shadowgate... Guilty Pleasure being Riot Zone)
HuCards: Soldier Blade, Shockman (I have the complete series. :P), Aldynes (does this count?)
Honorable Mentions: Salamander (the first PCE game I had bought, had to rebuy at a later time).
honorable mentions! :-s Just couldn't resist, eh?
Keeping in mind lists like these are subject to change at any given moment....
CDs-
Sapphire
Anearth Fantasy Stories
Dungeon Explorer II (USA)
Carts-
1941 (SGX)
Bonk 3 (USA)

I say Samurai Ghost because I got the game shipped for $9 while it's now common to see it listed (thanks to the douchebags at GameSquad) for $100 BIN for a loose cart.

Bomberman '93
Order of the Griffon
CDs:
Beyond Shadowgate
Godzilla
Might & Magic 3
Honorable Mentions:

Hucards: 1941, Bonk 3 (TG16), and the 3.0 Card (TG16).

i thought you were, since you posted sealed games in here
I have most of the games released for the Turbo both US & Japan, but not all. Crowning jewels...Dragon Knight & Graffiti which I got for about $30 in mint condition on ebay, along with Puyo Puyo Tsu which I got for about $40 IIRC. Those are some damn good deals if you ask me! Still trying to acuire Madou Monogatari for under $100. I have all the standard stuff like the Exiles & DE 2, Beyond Shadowgate, Dynastic Hero, etc. Hu's...uh, I think Photographboy is rare, didn't pay much for it. Same goes for Coryoon. I used to have the Hu of Bonk 3, but, sold it, wish I hadn't, but I do have PC Genjin 3.
I have all the standard semi rare japan releases as well like Drac X(not rare, but, expensive), Fausette Amour, the Spriggans, Nexzr, Horror Story(pretty hard for me to find actually), Kaze Kiri. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.
I used to have some original test discs from TTI of Bonk 3, Might n Magic 3(of which I don't have an original of), & Super Air Zonk, but, traded them for the real games of Bonk 3 & Super Air Zonk, along with Exile WP, DE2(both of which I owened, then sold, then regretted selling, like alot of my other games), & I think I also got a couple hundred bucks cash as well, besides the game trade.
Oh, I used to have Sylphia, sold it, REALLY regret it! I used to think of that game as sub par, but, since I sold it, I downloaded it, & made a new soundtrack for it, so I really REALLY regret getting rid of it. However, I have Steam Hearts, which I regret buying. I can't seem to even get half of what I paid for it, & the Steam in it, IMO fits nicely for the game being a Steaming Pile of Crapola! I'm not into Hentai, only bought it cuz it was a shmup, & I've played worse, Legion comes to mind, as does Deep Blue, but, it's still stinky, & would rather have my damn Sylphia back!
Sapphire (Boot but hey it plays fine)
Ys 1&2
Coryoon
Exile 2 (U.S version boy it cost me alot) #-o
Neutopia II
Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari
Sylphia
That's what comes to mind.
CDs:
Sapphire (real)
Sylphia
Madou Monogatari
HuCards:
Magical Chase
Coryoon
1941
Hardware:
Super Darius 3D Glasses with original packaging
CDs- Dynastic Hero, Super Air Zonk, Dungeon Explorer II
HUs- Magical Chase, Bonk 3
boys and misses, the question was:
QuoteWhat would be the three "Crown Jewels" in your collection? PCE CD games that combine expense, enjoyment, and rarity/acquisition?
so how sealed games or 3D glasses can be counted as enjoyable games?
i don't list a darius alpha in here, since it's only rare and expensive, but not that enjoyable.
:)
You enjoy looking at them. :D
Quote from: OldRover on 01/30/2008, 01:07 AMYou enjoy looking at them. :D
yeah, that of course everybody enjoys, but i think it's not in the sense of the threads creator
The games I listed are my crown jewels. When I saved up and bought that copy of Sapphire, I was
so happy (kinda pathetic but true). And I really like the game, all the games I listed I love. Renny
Blaster was a lot harder to track down then anything else I've listed, but it doesn't have a spot.
1941 was a game that was easy to find, but I swore I would only buy it for 10,000yen or less.
Finally Mandarake of all places had one for only 8,000yen, playing it always makes me feel
triumphant.
As for the glasses, these things have given me tons of enjoyment already. I've been going into
the boxes and pulling out games I haven't touched in a year, just to try them with the glasses.
In most cases I have ended up replaying everything I own. And now I'm using them with Saturn
and NeoGeo games too. This little hunk of plastic has in effect doubled my enjoyment. Making them
very much a harware crown jewel.
Renny Blaster....I'd like to find it, that's about it. I have a rip of it, & I think it stinks, but, along with that stink, is the fact that it's stinking rare! 1941, I see it on ebay, but, I just can't pay a whole crapload for it :P
Quote from: Tatsujin on 01/30/2008, 01:11 AMi think it's not in the sense of the threads creator
Thanks for upholding the law Tat- here's your deputy tin! =D>
Quote from: ParanoiaDragon on 01/29/2008, 11:05 PMHowever, I have Steam Hearts, which I regret buying.
I too regret buying Steam Hearts. It's not leaving my collection- but absolutely not worth the 100 I ludicrously paid for it- and I
am a pervert. The game itself though is beyond weak. :|
Quote from: MurderDate on 01/29/2008, 02:23 PMhow is that Might & Magic game?
It's..... Might & Magic; if you like M&M, then you'll like the Turbo port. It plays pretty much the same as the computer version, though it would definitely benefit from mouse support. It can get tedious in spots and is fairly complex, but it's entertaining and pretty long.
For the most part Id just consider my entire collection my crown jewel. About everything I own I enjoy playing.
but for the most part doesn't cut it. Surely there must be a few that you're at least a smidgen prouder to own... no? :-k
Quote from: Sinistron on 01/30/2008, 02:39 PMbut for the most part doesn't cut it. Surely there must be a few that you're at least a smidgen prouder to own... no? :-k
I wish I could say that, but its hard to do so. I tend to look at it like this. I'm typically proud of everything I own,and only keep what I intend to play,or enjoy playing. I think each game has its strengths and weaknesses, but each one has something I like and offers me a good time, and thats the most important aspect of it. That doesn't mean that anything I get rid of isn't good,it just means its not good or fun for me anymore,as in the case of getting rid of my Nes collection.
My son still has his,so its not like I cant play Nes anytime I want. I just don't want it as part of my own collection in my room. About the only other time I get rid of something is if I seek another version of it,like in the case of wanting to get rid of US Hu-cards in favor of the Japanese ones.
I'm not particularly proud of any of my games; I can't take pride in spending money on something. Now if I had to battle some ninjas first or win 'em in a knife fight with a drunken monkey, then it'd be a different story.
"pride" is a bit silly , but I'd say my favorite games in my collection are:
Cotton - just got this recently and have started each morning with a game of Cotton and a cup of coffee. It's an awesome game!
Blazing Lasers - this was my main go-to before Cotton
Ys I & II - had a ball with with this one
Ys III - just finished this the other day & it ruled. was like a good book - couldn't put it down.
Dragon Slayer - I can't imagine an RPG from this era being any better than this !
a bit average, predictable response I guess.
I suppose I may be just a wee tiny bit proud of my new and mint condition copy of Camp California...
so where can I get this pirate Sapphire CD?
Hmm... (Looks at Turbo collection consisting of 11 CD games) Let's see...
Here are my top CD games:
The Legend of Heroes - Totally awesome. I remember being fascinated by how deep the character development and relationships were, up to the point I played, anyway. Lots of fun, somewhat rare, and expensive in most cases (I got it relatively cheap).
Gate of Thunder - First of all, how can you go wrong with getting four games in one? Not only do you get the first two Bonk games and Bomberman, but the main attraction is one of the great overlooked shmups of all time. Fun, but find a good deal before buying. I got it for $50. Most go for $100 now. Assholes.
Cosmic Fantasy 2 - This is probably stretching it, due to having not played it yet, but I bought it brand new on ebay for a fair price, and from what I've heard, I'm definitely in for a good time. Can't wait to try it out!
Gate of Thunder 4 in 1. Obvious.
Nexzr Special - Though I don't have the spine card, it's such a sweet shmup. runinruder's recent review of it says it all.
That's really about it for the time being. Though SFII CE will be a cherished edition to my collection when I finally get that. It's a fun game, but back in the day it was absolute proof that the PCE/Turbo was just as capable, if not more, than the Genesis or SNES.
I'm new to the turbo screen again (fourth time in nine years) and looking to build up the collection again. The only originally one I have now is Riot Zone. I have a CD-R copy of Sapphire, Lords of Thunder and Dracula X. All great games. I can't play Sapphire since I don't a arcade card duo but I do listen to the music while I'm cruising in my G35.
Crown Jewels:

Thanks for twice making me laugh. Good show, old bean.
I own Sapphire but it's definitely not my most prized. I bought Sapphire right when it came out so I only payed 60 bucks for it. I thought it was good, but not amazing. My less expensive games I enjoy the most. All of these I own as well.
Dracula-X of course (got it for xmas in 93)
Spriggan 1 (no spine card)
Ys Book I&II
Lords of Thunder
3 in 1 CD
Rayxanber II
Tengai Makyo II
Terraforming (US)
Air Zonk
Super Star Soldier
Blazing Lazers

Cotton (US)
Macross 2036
Dungeon Explorer II (US) payed 10 bucks for it at a place called Video Game Exchange. They were getting rid of all their Turbo stuff for next to nothing.
I'll just continue writing in this thread instead of making a new one.
My own crown jewels in my PCE collection are so far:
Darius Alpha and sealed versions of Sapphire and Sylphia
and Kishin Zenki Douji for PCFX

What a horrible thing to do to a Turbografx game. I wouldn't even do that to Timeball.
I would, however, do that to Bomberman: act zero.

Eh- that puppy will still play fine.
If Deep Blue wants to deal out the ultimate in piss-poor hideous gameplay then it should be able to take a few ashes and molten plastic :)
I should buy a bunch for all purpose household goodies- ashtrays, coasters, shoe horns, throwing cards, ball rests, etc.
A fine use for that pile of steamy garbage Busted

Are you oldskool from UG?? If so your TG16 torrent made me buy a DUO
Meh, I'm just now re-acquiring a TG-16 and some other stuff so my collection is pretty weak, but I guess the crown jewels for me now are:
New Adventure Island
Splatterhouse
Double Dungeons
Quote from: RyGuy on 07/26/2008, 09:52 AMDouble Dungeons
Man, I feel for you. That along with Battle Royale are my least favorite TG-16 games.
New to the forum, but here goes:
CD's-
Castlevania - Just love the game
Spriggian - first import ever, got it from GameExpress in '91.
Star Parodier - Love to fly as the PCE!
Hu's-
Parodius - Too good on the Express
Alien Crush - Came with my original tg-16, must have played this the most out of everything.
Parasol Stars - It was cheaper to get the Japanese Hu than US?
I have Saphire, bought a Arcade card just for it and was let down. Too much hype, I guess. It's a good tech demo for what the PCE could do with lots-o-RAM. I won't both with honorary mentions...

Pretty much the u.s version of parasole stars is cheaper then the jpn one.
I have a copy of the u.s version and it only cost me $20.00
It may be $20 now, but back when I bought it I remember the US going for more than what I found the import version. That was a long time ago...on the listserv.
